The International School of Ministry (ISOM) is the largest multidenominational, video-based Bible school in the world, providing undergraduate and graduate-level
biblical education in ministry and the marketplace. ISOM is known for its ethnic diversity with over 85 languages available, with more than 20,000 schools joining

Since its founding by Dr. Berin Gilfillan in 1994, ISOM has equipped students to be leaders with a mind for academic study and a heart for the Gospel. ISOM is a

Dr. Berin Gilfillan is the founder and CEO of Good Shepherd Ministries, International, and creator of the
International School of Ministry (ISOM). For more than three years he served as the television producer for
Reinhard Bonnke, documenting the miracles at Reinhard Bonnke’s crusades in Africa. Seeing millions of people
making decisions for Christ, without proper discipleship to follow, inspired him to create the ISOM program.

The Story of ISOM

The International School of Ministry concept began in the late 1980s while Dr. Berin Gilfillan was working as the television producer
for Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. While filming documentaries alongside Reinhard, as he ministered to millions of people mostly in
Africa, Berin began to realize that there was a severe lack of training material to help nurture and grow these new converts. Reinhard
would bring salvation to hundreds of thousands of people in each crusade, but a burning question remained, “who was going to help
the pastors in the huge work of discipling the great harvest of souls being won to Christ?”

Berin saw the need to create a training equivalent of the Jesus movie. He figured that if this had to be done from scratch, why not use
the greatest teachers on earth to do the instruction? He understood that nobody had ALL the answers but that different ministers
carried unique anointings, graces, and understandings. He brought these teachers to a church before a live congregation and asked
each one to share a life message or a life series of messages with the global Body of Christ. In these videos, the instructor is teaching
directly to the camera and imparting to students their knowledge. They then were also asked to pray for their anointing and grace to
transfer into the lives of those being taught.

As you experience these teachings, students need to put a demand on the anointings that these ministry vessels carry. We hear
stories from around the world about how people are healed and filled with the Holy Spirit through these powerful messages. Each
anointing is different, and you can partake in them all. When prayer is taught, an anointing to pray will manifest. When Reinhard
Bonnke teaches you evangelism, you will gain a passion for witnessing to others, and when the gifts of the Holy Spirit are taught,
you will see them activated in your life. This truly is life-transforming content, and God is using it worldwide to mature His Church.

Timeline
Berin worked as the Television Producer at Christ for all Nations (CfaN) where he produced 11 documentaries about

1986 the ministry work of Reinhard Bonnke, including A Blood-Washed Africa, Something to Shout About, and The Malawi
Miracle.

Work with CfaN

During his time at Fuller Theological Seminary studying under such professors as Dr. C. Peter Wagner, Berin and his

1991 wife, Lisa, created Good Shepherd Ministries, International (GSMI). He took his family to the mission field in Nigeria,
where they started 140 video Bible schools with over 4,000 students, and they also pioneered a preschool that is still
in existence to this day.
GSMI Founded

GSMI filmed its primary video material, known as the ISOM Core, with over 160 hours of content from teachers such

1995 as Joyce Meyer, T.L. Osborn, John Bevere, Jack Hayford, Marilyn Hickey, Reinhard Bonnke, and many more. These
productions were filmed before a live church audience at Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos, California, pastored
by Bayless Conley.
ISOM begins

Lisa Gilfillan created the Women of the World (WOW), a curriculum designed to equip, edify and encourage women in

2004 their strategic positions in the Global Church. The primary video material was filmed at the Rock Church and World
Outreach Center in San Bernardino, California, pastored by Jim and Deborah Cobrae.

Berin partnered with Chad Daniel (who worked as Television Producer for Joyce Meyer Ministries) to co-create

2005 YouthBytes, a Curriculum for Teens which airs weekly on Daystar Television®. Filmed all over the world, Chad uses
the globe as his prop to give modern-day parables that commincate the timeless truth of God’s Word.

Berin and Lisa partnered with the famous medical missionary, Dr. Daniel Fountain, to record a Community

2010 Development curriculum called CDBoks (Building Others through Knowledge and Service). Topics include: how to
get clean water, developing self-sustaining agriculture, and even how to deliver a child into the world in places where
there is no doctor.

Berin teamed up with Kingdom Congressional International Alliance (KCIA), to record Marketplace Module. A large

2015 number of the original recordings were filmed during the annual KCIA conference in Tukwilla, Washington. Other
marketplace material was then added from 20 nations.

Languages
ISOM is proud to represent the top 27 languages spoken around the world, ranked by the total number of speakers, according to estimates in the 2017 edition of the
Ethnologue. ISOM has the largest availability of languages listed by the largest percentage of unreached people groups, according to the Joshua Project. Unreached
is defined as being where there are few evangelicals and where there are few who identify as Christians. The criteria are under 2% as Evangelicals and under 5% are
professing Christians.

Certificates & Degrees

ISOM is organized into two major methods of study: individual online study and church-led group study. ISOM offers students using both methods a pathway to an
associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree. Students outside the USA can also obtain a Certificate and a Diploma.

CERTIFICATE OF BIBLICAL STUDIES

The Certificate of Biblical Studies offers students an opportunity to complete a short-term non-degree program. The first three trimesters of the ISOM Core must be
completed.

DIPLOMA OF BIBLICAL STUDIES

The Diploma of Biblical Studies offers students an opportunity to complete a short-term non-degree program. All five trimesters of the ISOM Core must be completed.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE
ISOM has partnered with the following institutions to offer an associate degree: Vision International University(VIU), Covenant Theological Seminary (CTS), and Christian
Leadership University (CLU). All five trimesters of the ISOM Core must be completed, plus an application, and fee to a partnering institution through ISOM.

BACHELOR’S DEGREE
ISOM has partnered with the following institutions to offer a bachelor’s degree: Vision International University(VIU), Covenant Theological Seminary (CTS), and
Christian Leadership University (CLU). All five trimesters of the ISOM Core plus an additional five modules must be completed. An application and fee to a
partnering institution must submitted through ISOM.

Bachelor’s degrees are constructed of two interrelated areas: (1) the ISOM Core component, which is the basis for all degrees and (2) an additional five Modules from
the bachelor’s studies component. These bachelor’s modules explore a specific area of ministry or capture the deeper teachings of a single ministry leader.

The following bachelor’s degree is offered through VIU, CTS, and CLU:
• Bachelor of Ministry (B.Min.)

Requirements for a Bachelor’s Degree:

1. Completion of the ISOM Core, which is the first five Trimesters ISOM has to
offer.
2. Completion of five additional modules, chosen from the 13 modules listed in
this catalog.
3. A 60% passing grade for each course in the ISOM Core and an 80% attendance
record.
4. A 70% passing grade per additional modules and an 80% attendance record.
5. An application to the partnering institution.
6. A degree fee.

Master’s Degree
The Master of Ministry program offers an in-depth theological academic study that prepares students for their future work in ministry, coupled with additional elective
modules that help nurture the student’s spiritual, personal, and vocational goals.

The degree requires completion of the ISOM Core (5 Trimesters), completion of five modules for bachelor’s studies (not previously taken), and completion of three
additional modules for master’s studies (not previously taken), completion of nine five-page book reports, and completion of a 25-page master’s thesis.

Book Reports:
A total of nine book reports are due during the master’s program. There will be a five-page book report required for each book.

Thesis:
A student may enroll for their master’s thesis only when that student has attained candidacy status for the master’s degree, having completed all of the components,
including the three additional modules and the nine book reports.

A thesis is a written product of the study of a significant problem or specific ministry direction. It clearly identifies the problem, states the major assumptions, explains
the significance of the undertaking, sets forth the sources for and methods of gathering information, analyzes the data, and offers a conclusion or recommendation.
The finished product must evidence originality, critical and independent thinking, appropriate organization and format, and thorough documentation.

Distributing ISOM
SCHOOLS AROUND the WORLD
There are ISOM schools in more than 150 countries and over 80+ languages. Of the 20,000+ locations where ISOM is being used, close to 60% of these schools are in
religiously-persecuted nations. Only about 5% of ISOM schools are in the Western World. ISOM’s ease of implementation enables rapid multiplication growth, but that is
only a part of the picture. ISOM’s proliferation worldwide has been mostly accomplished through strategic alliances with others. Good Shepherd Ministries International
(GSMI), ISOM’s parent organization, partners with numerous like-hearted ministries/individuals who are passionate about reaching and teaching spiritually-hungry
people in distant lands. 

LICENSING and REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTERS

For those who have a missions vision, it is possible to obtain a license allowing the duplication of certain ISOM materials in very specified languages and geographic
regions. These licenses are granted at the discretion of the leadership of GSMI and permission is only renewed each year based on right relationship, good stewardship
and faithful reporting. The one-time license cost for an already developed language is $1,900 per language and normally grants permission to start ISOM schools in
one country and one language. The license is for the duplication permission only and does not include the hard costs of ISOM Video and related materials. This enables
an organization to integrate ISOM training into their ministry’s vision. As a result, some ministries have started more than 1,000 ISOM schools under a single license.

Those holding valid ISOM licenses are called Regional Centers, and more than 300 of these exist worldwide. GSMI often refers local contacts from other nations to
these Regional Centers and is committed to serve and expand these partnerships. Please contact GSMI if your ministry is interested in starting multiple ISOM schools
in a certain nation or region.

NOTE: License agreements are available mostly for developing nations and are not typically available for Western countries.

NEW LANGUAGE TRANSLATION

If you have a heart to see ISOM translated into a new language, GSMI would love to partner with you to complete that language. It costs about $20,000 to $25,000 to
translate a new language. Please be aware that each language requires 160 sessions of voice translation and at least the same amount of written translation for the
notes and exams. It is no small task, the level of spiritual warfare is intense, but the victory for the Kingdom is immense.

Depending on the leading of God and the need for a particular language, GSMI may step out in faith with a partnering ministry if at least $5,000 can be initially raised.
Since ISOM was designed to train and equip unreached people groups, new languages are vitally important to the vision of the ministry. Special prayer is often needed
when undertaking these key ground-breaking endeavors.

MASSIVE MISSIOLOGICAL BARRIERS OVERCOME with the ISOM

1. Language barriers are overcome.
2. Unlimited numbers can be trained simultaneously.
3. The training can take place anywhere in any country.
4. The cost factor is minimal.
5. Political hindrances are removed, as training can easily go underground.
6. No foreigners are needed on site to conduct the training. Training can be
done by the national leaders alone.
7. There is control over the content, doctrine, and spirit of the material being
taught.

ACCREDITATION
In the USA, the ISOM does not function as a federally accredited training school and does not award degrees or qualify for Federal Student Loans. The ISOM supplies
curriculum materials for churches and other ministries to run their own programs and has articulation agreements with various universities and seminaries who grant
degrees. None of these programs are federally recognized, and they are not intended to be used for employment advancement. As far as practical Christian ministry
training is concerned, few programs on earth will outshine the ISOM. The academic credit obtained through ISOM is not transferrable to most federally accredited
institutions. ISOM is accredited through the Transworld Accrediting Commission International (TACI), a federally recognized, non-profit church educational organization
whose philosophy is to demonstrate accountability to the consuming public for education obtained in nontraditional evangelical educational institutions.

Starting an ISOM School

The easiest way to start an ISOM school is in your local church. That may seem like a daunting task, but with these helpful tips, you will be amazed at how easy it is.
Remember thousands of others have done this successfully and many have set up schools in just a few weeks.

We have found that the two most important ingredients of a successful ISOM school are:
• A pastor with a vision to equip the church’s members to do ministry and become mature believers in the Body of Christ
• A well-respected and well liked facilitator with the gift of administration

STEPS TO STARTING AN ISOM SCHOOL

• If you are the pastor of your church, challenge your members to be trained. Your promotion of the school is essential to its success. Also, appoint a respected
facilitator with administrative gifting.
• If you are not the pastor of your church, show and submit all materials to your local pastor for approval and support.
• Upon approval from your local pastor, begin to promote the ISOM to people in your church, or to those who you know will be interested. Use pulpit announcements,
video announcements, brochures, bulletin flyers (available from ISOM), information booths, social media blasts, and even ads in local TV, radio, and newspapers.
• Pray and seek God about your personal involvement with ISOM. Remember that this is more than a program; it is a discipleship and leadership development
process, and consequently must be directed by the Holy Spirit.

GUIDELINES for the FACILITATOR

• Secure a location and time for the classes, as well as all necessary equipment.
• Set a date to begin the school (remember to allow at least two weeks for order processing with ISOM).
• Ask potential students to sign up, and pay the student registration costs directly to you. Then you will make one payment to the ISOM Headquarters Office for the
Videos, Student Workbooks, and Facilitator’s Guide.
• Call ISOM with your school order and payment information (all major credit cards accepted).
• Expect a 1–2 week delivery time after your order has been placed.
• Upon receipt, verify your order by checking that you have received all of the Videos, Student Workbooks, and Facilitator’s Guide.

MAKING ISOM YOUR OWN

• Develop your style and schedule for your classes. Dress code and punctual starting times are recommended. Attendance for each class session needs to be
recorded.
• Look over the Facilitator’s Guide (included with school materials) for further instructions.
• Bathe everything in prayer as you begin your classes, and trust God to accomplish His purposes and plans throughout the lessons.

TRIMESTER COMPLETION
• Call and order the next trimester at least two weeks before the school’s start date.
• Track student attendance and grades using the Grade Report Form found in the Facilitator’s Guide.
• You can download the Grades spreadsheet online at isom.org/grades
• Report student information to the ISOM Grades Department grades@isom.org after the Third and Fifth Trimesters.
• Visit isom.org/degree-information/ for those students interested in earning a degree, filling out a degree application, or requesting a transfer of credit.

ORDERING AND RETURNS POLICIES

ORDERING
Please order materials at least two weeks before your class is scheduled to begin.
This will give enough time for the order to be produced and shipped in time for
your first class. This will also save you money on shipping costs. Orders typically
take two to five business days to deliver within the US but can take up to seven
days. Rush delivery charges will apply. .
RETURNS
Upon our approval, we will accept return items that are in new condition within 60
days of purchase. There will be a 10% restocking fee and return shipping charges
are the responsibility of the sender. Refunds will be issued to the original form of
payment.

ISOM Core
WHAT IS the ISOM CORE?
The ISOM Core contains the original legacy recordings of the International Curriculum. These teachings are the same for students all over the world. They enable
believers an opportunity to complete an associate degree-level program to meet a wide range of goals, from training for a specific church or para-church ministry to
personal and spiritual enrichment. The ISOM Core is also designed for ministry and marketplace leaders who are looking for new ways to impact their congregation,
community, and calling.

ISOM CORE FEATURES

• 35 courses and 160 sessions on DVD or to stream online.The bilingual version is 147+ hours, and the express version is 72+ hours.
• Detailed workbooks with group discussion and self-study questions

FLEXIBILITY OF ISOM CORE

The ISOM Core offers churches and students a lot of flexibility in how the program is implemented. Classes can be conducted according to a schedule that fits the
calendar of each local church. The ISOM Core consists of 35 courses that support a church’s educational goals and help students grow in their callings. Individual
students studying online can take classes in any order they choose and set their own pace for their studies. Online individual students can visit ministrydegree.org

IS the ISOM CORE RIGHT FOR YOU?

The ISOM Core is the first five Trimesters of study and is foundational to all ongoing programs. It is a good fit for any person looking to go deeper with God and be better
prepared and able to serve in their church. If you are passionate about ministry studies and are looking for a pathway to our bachelor’s and master’s programs, this ISOM
Core curriculum will be a cornerstone to your spiritual growth. Many people also take the ISOM Core to get a diploma and become more mature in their walk with God.

BILINGUAL vs. EXPRESS

The original ISOM Core recordings were done for the whole world, and up to 16 languages were recorded live. The format used for those recordings was generally a
live interpretation on a platform from English into Spanish. ISOM makes no apology for this format because it enables us very rapidly to translate ISOM into languages
that will bring ISOM teachings to remotest parts of the world. Over time, many English speaking nations asked for a version of ISOM that would remove the Spanish
translation. This new version took a year to create and is called ISOM Express. A gentle wipe removes the live Spanish interpretation and cuts the length of the teaching
session virtually in half. Other language groups have since followed suit, and ISOM now has express versions in English, Mandarin, German, Portuguese, Japanese,
Telugu, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, and Hindi.

TIME LENGTHS OF EACH ISOM SESSION

Each session of teaching throughout this catalog shows a length next to it. So session 6 from Foundations of Faith on the next page will look like this:

The length of 26 minutes is the Express Version with only the English in the recording. These recordings were orginially done with a live interpreter. This original version
we refer to as the Bilingual Version. Because most people taking ISOM in English use the Express Version, the time frame is MUCH shorter. As a rule, each Express
session is roughly half as long as its Bilingual counterpart. We show the Express time lengths in this catalog. Those using the Bilingual Versions can calculate the
approximate bilingual time lengths as we have done here:

MASTERS DIPLOMA/MASTER of MINISTRY

A Masters Diploma of Biblical Studies is issued by the International School of Ministry (ISOM) and is primarily an award granted to international ISOM students. A Master
of Ministry is a degree program available from the following partnering institutions: Vision International University (VIU), Covenant Theological Seminary (CTS), and
Christian Leadership University (CLU). These degrees are available to all ISOM students, both in the US and international.
All five trimesters of the ISOM Core must be completed, plus an additional eight modules, nine book reports, and a thesis.

Master’s Degree Requirement — Quick Facts

• 160 video sessions to complete the ISOM Core plus an additional 256 video
sessions from elective modules.
• Trimesters are typically completed in 12–14-week blocks.
• Local church-based schools typically complete a master’s degree in about a
year following the successful completion of bachelor-level content.
• A total of nine book reports must be submitted to ISOM Headquarters.
• A 25-page thesis must be submitted to ISOM Headquarters.

in Lima, New York, offering programs intended to

and Christian service. Elim was founded in 1924 by
Ivan and Minnie Spencer. The school is named for
a biblical location in Exodus 15:27, where Elim was
identified as an oasis in the wilderness. Beginning
in 1948, Elim was a strategic center of the Latter
Rain Movement.

Dr. Brick Cliff and his wife, Beth, have served as
missionaries for 26 years in Africa, India, and in
Latin America. His thirty years of ministry have
included: evangelism, church planting, starting
and directing Bible schools, pastoring churches
in different countries, and starting three Christian
film studios. He is also the Founder and President
of World Impact Now Ministries.
Dick Grout has been the Worship Director of Elim
Bible Institute & College since 1989. He teaches

Beth Doerr Dr. Dan Fountain Carolyn Klaus, M.D.

Beth Doeer is an international consultant with
DoerrPrise Consulting, evaluating, training, and
assisting international community development
projects. She worked with ECHO International as
Technologies Program manager for 11 years.
Daniel E. Fountain served with his wife, Miriam,
as medical missionaries for 35 years in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo. During that
time he was the director of Vanga Evangelical
Hospital. He was also the author of numerous
books including God, Medicine, and Miracles. He
went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2013.
Carolyn Klaus is a board-certified internist who
became skilled in the care of AIDS patients in a
Philadelphia inner-city clinic that she founded.
Her book Prescription for Hope describes those
early days at Esperanza Health Center, which years
later still flourishes. She has used this experience
in several AIDS-affected countries, teaching
and consulting in medical schools, universities,
churches, and community-based organizations.

missionary, and author. Following graduation
from veterinary school, he practiced being a dairy
veterinarian before going to Nepal to establish
a clinic for farmers, helping train government
veterinary technicians and writing curricula and
textbooks. His book, Where There is No Animal
Doctor, is a manual on basic measures to prevent
and treat animal diseases for people living in
remote areas around the world. The book has been

B. God’s confrontation with Abimelech and his response
(Genesis 20:3-5)
1. The first time in the Bible, integrity is mentioned as
pertains to the heart, God is coming to speak to a
man on the basis of what he doesn’t understand.
2. Integrity of heart has to do with two things.
a. There are always things I don’t know or
understand. God will help me in the face of those
things I don’t know or understand.
b. There are things I do understand. If I violate those
things, God won’t come and correct me for those
things.
• This is a frightening truth.
C. The Lord’s reply and the principle this reveals (Genesis
20:6)
1. God patiently understands when our ignorance
produces innocent failure for lack of wisdom.
2. God said, “The reason I’m here to stop you is because
I know you are acting without knowledge or without
compromise of your own understanding.”
D. Issue: The inverse/opposite of this is contained within this

1. God holds us responsible to walk in the light of the
understanding/revelation we have.

d. Each one expressed something of a sense of
divine tolerance or exception to his case. Why?
3. Answer: When integrity has been violated from
the outset, God will not intervene until judgment
eventually accrues. God only warns, instructs, or
corrects where His intervention is allowed by reason
of the honest quest of the individual to walk in
His way.
4. The key is to respond immediately whenever the Lord
deals with you, and you have not recognized what
you were doing.
5. This story makes it dramatically clear that there is
possibly no more essential trait or value to be sought
and maintained in a leader’s life than integrity of
heart.
II. A DYNAMIC WORD (PSALM 25:20-21)
A. A word study on integrity unfolds ideas which can help us
recognize how integrity is to be maintained.
B. Old Testament thom: the idea of wholeness or
completeness
1. Illustration: In mathematics, we speak of whole
numbers as contrasted with fractions.
2. Integrity of heart describes that attitude of heart that
disallows the slicing away of full honesty with God or
with oneself through supposedly minor deviations.
a. This is done through rationalizing: providing an
excuse to myself for compromise.
b. This is also done through self-justification:
arguing that my case is an exception and that
“God doesn’t take seriously (He accepts) my
compromise.”
C. Practical examples
1. Engaged in a conversation: a violation of full honesty
• “Ping”

a. Full range of verbal purity, attitudinal constancy,
refusal to flavor the truth, refusal of sexual
indulgences of any kind, refusal to give place to

b. Neither gives place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27)
III. DYNAMIC OBEDIENCE TO PRINCIPLE
A. David, a man after God’s heart (of integrity)
1. David’s words: “Teach me Your way, O Lord. I will
walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your Name”
(Psalm 86:11).
2. Two steps:
a. I will be teachable.
b. I will commit to walk in what You show.
c. Result: “Thus, Lord, You can keep my heart in one
piece.”
3. “Keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be
ashamed (embarrassed) for I put my trust in You. Let
integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on
You (listen for your voice)” (Psalm 25:20-21).
B. Under David’s leadership, the boundaries of Israel were
extended to their widest limits.
1. Incapable of patrolling its boundaries, the question
arises, “How can I preserve my kingdom?”
2. He makes the above prayer
(Psalm 25:20-21): “You, Lord must
preserve me.”
IV. TRAGEDY FOLLOWING DISOBEDIENCE TO PRINCIPLE
A. Remember Solomon’s original prayer.
1. “Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what You
promised Your servant David my father” (1 Kings 8:25).
2. God’s response (1 Kings 9:3-5): “I have heard your

prayer . . . I have consecrated this house which you
have built to put My name there forever, and My
eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. Now,
if you walk before Me as your father David walked,
in integrity of heart and uprightness . . . then I will
establish your throne . . . .”
B. There was a stark contrast between Solomon’s and David’s
pathway to solving the problem of defending boundaries.
1. Solomon’s choice was diplomatic solutions: alliances.
2. With each treaty came a new princess to seal the
political bond.
• Jerusalem became filled with the idols brought
by these treaties that were designed to assure
personal and professional security.
3. Concept: All of us are house builders.
• We are building families, congregations,
ministries.
4. The key to a home, a church, or a ministry that lasts
(that God will perpetuate) is wrapped up in our will to
sustain a heart of integrity perpetually.
V. THE PATHWAY TO OBEDIENCE
A. The plural form of integrity (thom): Thummim
• God has given a picture of our maintaining a heart of
integrity.
B. The high priest’s breastplate: Urim and Thummim.
1. No one knows exactly what that was made of, but we
know how and when the Urim and Thummim were
consulted.
2. Exodus 28:30a: “And you shall put in the breastplate
of judgment (decision-making unto a divinely guided
verdict), the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall
be over Aaron’s heart.”
3. Example: Quest for a pure priesthood: “Wait until
a high priest stands up with the Urim and the
Thummim” (Nehemiah 7:65; Ezra 2:63).
