Blogging in teaching and learning software

systems development
https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/1560299

Abstract:
This paper outlines the strategic framework for applications of new blogging strategies and tools significantly enriched
with cognitive, conative and emotive dimensions that can be used for effective teaching and learning of software
systems development (SSD) in large groups. Additionally, we provide features included in blogs as an invaluable
source for monitoring and assessing the progress of the SSD subject. We focus on a support environment of
specialised blogging tools used and comments on shared experiences in the implementation of blogging methods in
the SSD subject over the last year at University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Next, we review and assess the
proposed blogs methodology for information processing as well as for subject evaluation. Then we discuss the
successes of blogging, as well as the most common problems (both anticipated and experienced) inherent in using
this tool. Finally, we present our knowledge, observations, comments and recommendations for the enhanced use of
blogging, in a process of continuous improvement of teaching and learning of SSD.

A new approach to blog information searching and

curating
https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6349518

Abstract:
Blogs are one of the main components of Web 2.0 i.e. a Read-Write Web. Blogs are online
diaries created by individuals; which provide excellent information on any topic all over the
world. With the increasing use of blogging sites, people share their opinions, experiences,
and their views with others. However, it is not so easy to fetch valuable information among
various blogs in available time, which normally is very short. In this paper, a new approach
of fetching the blog posts automatically from various blogging sites based on user's interest
is introduced. This new method of content curation will improve the knowledge experience
of a user. The paper highlights a blog model, which includes content curation method with
efficient searching and rating algorithms. The paper also discusses the major characteristics
of blogs, and the gaps in the currently available system.

CrowdAdvisor: A Framework for Freelancer

Assessment in Online Marketplace
https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7965433

Abstract:
Hiring is one of the important challenges in the context of online labor marketplace. Unlike traditional
hiring, where workers are hired either as a full time employee or as a contractor, hiring from online
marketplaces are done for individual jobs of short duration. As these marketplaces are open for anyone,
hiring becomes challenging due to the large number of freelancers applying for a posted job. Quite often,
clients use ratings of the freelancers while hiring. However, we have observed that ratings are skewed
towards higher values and do not provide valuable insights about freelancers' abilities to do a quality
work. Therefore, we propose a multidimensional assessment framework which evaluates freelancers on
several dimensions. The proposed framework, not only uses the current information about the freelancer,
but also utilizes the past jobs he has performed. The framework is evaluated on the data collected from a
popular online marketplace. Our analysis, performed on 7254 jobs and 96,271 applicants, shows that the
assessment made by the proposed framework outperforms the baseline algorithm.
