INTERACTIVE TEACHING LEARNING PLAN

LESSON TOPIC: Compound Words

Learning Outcome: At the end of the lesson, students must have:

Role played a scenario using the different kinds of compounds words

Defined and described compounds words on their own words
Provided various examples of compounds words

Integration of Faith in learning- “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful

Words move hearts and heart move limbs.”-Hamza Yusuf

I. Engage

Good morning class. Today we are going (the students started to roam around and
to have a game . And our game is called find things and objects that are
“Find Me”. Now bring out your pen and compound words)
paper and I will give you 2 minutes to
roam inside the classroom and find things
that are compounds words and write
them on your paper. Your time starts
now.

(the students started to find and take

down things that are compound words)

(After 2 minutes)
Class please be seated now .

Now give me an example of compound

words that you listed in your paper. Trash can

What else? Paper bag

OK. Who else? blackboard

II. Explore

Ok. Why do you think that the words that Ma’am because for example the word
your classmates said are compounds blackboard, it is a compound word
words ? because it consist of two words which
have different meanings. First is the black
which means colour then the second one
is the board .
You got it right!

What did you find out about compound

words? Compound words are two different words
combined.

Yes. That’s Good

Who else wants to give an example? Yes

Sally. Ball pen

Good. How about you Bekka?

Cell phone
Nice.

III. Explain

Now class based on the activity that Yes ma’am

you’ve done can you now define what a
compound word means?

Who wants to explain it with your won Compound words are formed when two
words? different words joined together to create a
Yes Belle. new word that has an entirely new
meaning. Like the word headphone. Head
is a part of a body while phone is a gadget.
Now if we are going to combine these two
words it creates another word which has
different meaning which is headphone
means a thing that is inserted into the ear
to better hear the sound. These
compounds words are closed form words
because they are not separated.
Very Good Belle. Yes that’s correct,
closed form of compound words are not
separated from each other. Like the word
classmate.

Anyone else who wants to share their

ideas about compound words? Yes Claire.
Ma’am compound words are words that
that are also hyphenated. Like for
example, empty-handed. This a
hyphenated compound word because it
uses a hyphen to connect the two
Yes that’s correct. Hyphenated compound different words.
words are words that use hyphen to
connect two different words. Thank you
Claire for that.
Who else. Yes Kath.

Ma’am. Belle said a while back that there

are closed form of compounds words.
Now I am going to share the open form
of compound words like for example the
word ice cream. This is an open form
because the two words are written
independently and they are separated
Very good Kath. You got right. Open form from each other.
of compound words are the two words
that are not connected with other rather
they’re separated.

So class all in all there are 3 kinds of

compounds words. The first one is the
closed compound word, then the open
compound words and the last is the
hyphenated one.
IV. Elaborate

Now that you have explained it in your

understanding and words and you have
provided various examples, it is now your
time to apply the knowledge that you
learned.

For your activity group yourself into 5

and you have to demonstrate a role
playing using the different kinds of
compounds words. I will give you 5
minutes to prepare for your presentation.
And 1 minute for the presentation.

After 5 minutes. Beth: Joy you know what I have heard

Ok let us start from the group 1. that Lory is the first runner-up in the
beauty contest.
Joy: Woow! Really ? Well that is an
honor to our section because she is our
classmate.
John: Why not, let us surprise her by
giving an ice cream. I am sure she will
be happy because it’s her favourite.
Jessa : Yah, that’s a good idea but I
remember she told me a while back that
she wants to eat hamburger. Why not
let us just buy ice cream and hamburger.
Callie: All of your ideas are good. I am
pretty sure that she will be happy because
she will be surprised by her long- term
friends and classmates.

Now may I ask group two, three and four

what are the compound words that they Runner-up, classmate, ice cream,
have used in their role play? hamburger and long-term.

Wow! You are all listening. Very Good Group 2 performs, then 3 and 4.
Now let us watch the group two.
V. Evaluate

So class you did all great. You did a Students followed what the teacher said.
superb role playing. You have portrayed They give claps and tell themselves, you
various situations which I found good. did a good job!”
Now let us all give 5 claps to all of us. And
tell yourself, “you did a good job”.

Thank you everyone for your

participation.

COOPERATIVE TEACHING-LEARNING PLAN

Lesson Topic: Figures of Speech

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the lesson students must have:

Differentiated the three figures of speech .

Constructed a sentence using the three figures of speech.
Created a story/poem using the different kinds of figures of speech
collaboratively.
Integration of Faith in Learning
God used figures of speech to call attention to a point in the scriptures
(Isaiah 55:12)
Integration of Values in Learning
Language becomes a prison house only poets can escape...if we do not reject
any strict distinctions between ordinary usage and figures of speech.- Arthur
Quinn

I. ENGAGE

Good morning class ! I would all of you to

choose you own partner and I will give
you a piece of literary work and you are
going to identify the figures of speech that
are used in the poem. You will write it in a
¼ sheet of paper and you only have 5
minutes to do it.

The Lord is my strength and my

happiness
He never fails to show me his love and
care
He celebrates with me when I am in
gladness
I trust Him fully because He is fair.

His face is as innocent as a baby

His voice gives me a perfect harmony
He is my best friend and my buddy
In Him, I can tell anything.

The plants that He had created

whispered to me,
They said, “you are loved and cared by
Him truly”
Do not disappoint Him rather be honest
to Him daily
For He loves you like His own family.

(After 5 minutes.)

Now class, based on your readings what

are the example of figures of speech that Ma’am, His face is as innocent as a baby.
had been used in the poem? Yes Anna and
her partner Marie.

(The teacher writes it in the board)

He loves you like His own family.

Next what else? Patty and her partner
Koreen.

(the teacher writes it on the board)

The Lord is my strength and my
happiness
What else, Maya and her partner Fely.
(teacher writes it on the board)
The plants that He had created
How about Carry and her partner Lea. whispered to me.

Joe and partner

He is my best friend and my buddy

II. Explore

You did good class. Now based on your Ma’am because I remember when I was in
works, how can you say that His face is as grade 6 we have learned about the figures
innocent as a baby is a figure of speech? of speech. Now I can say that His face is
as innocent as a baby because it is a simile
for it is uses the word as. And there are
things that are likened with each other.
So what are the two things that are being
likened? His face and baby.

Good job.
How about in the statement, The Lord is Ma’am it is a metaphor because it is a
my strength and my happiness. comparison of two unrelated objects
without using like and as.
What are the two things being compared?
Lord and strength, happiness.
Nice.
How about the statement The plants that
He had created whispered to me. It is a personification ma’am . Because it
personifies a thing.
So what is the thing here that is being
personified? Plants ma’am. Because plants cannot
literally whisper to a person.
Nice one.

III. EXPLAIN
Now class based on your activity who can Ma’am simile is a figure of speech that
explain and elaborate what is a simile? compares an object to another object.
Yes Robert. And it uses like and as.
For example, She is like an angel.
This is a simile because she is being
compared to an angel plus there is the
word like.

Very good. Robert got exactly the point.

Simile is a comparison of two things with
the use of as and like.
Now who can give me another example? Her lips are as red as roses.
Yes Sunny.

What are things being compared? Lips and roses ma’am.

Good.

Now let us proceed on the second kind of

figures of speech which is the metaphor.

She has a stone heart.

You are my Achilles heel.
Now based on the example that I have
provided who can explain to me the
meaning of metaphor without consulting
the dictionary. Metaphor is a comparison of two
unrelated objects without using like and
Yes Abby. as. It is somewhat similar to simile but
the only difference is that metaphor
doesn’t use the word as and like. And it is
not literal in meaning. Like for example ,
You are my Achilles heel means that you
You got it right Abby. are my weakness.

Now who will give another example. Yes

She is my star at night.
Chester.

Good.
Who else? Yes Jessica. He is my shining armour.

Very Good.
Now let us proceed on the last one which
is the Personification .

Freda can you explain what

personification is?
Ma’am personification personifies a
thing. Or it gives life to an object. Like the
Ex:
example, the sun is smiling, we know that
The sun is smiling. a sun cannot smile but through
personification a thing can have life. But
it is not literal in meaning rather it has
deeper meaning. When we say the sun is
smiling it means that the sun is shining
brightly.

Very good Freda you got the target.

Class is that understood?

Yes ma’am.
Do you any questions?
Nothing ma’am.

IV. ELABORATE

So class, since you have understand the

lesson it is now the time to apply what
you have learned. For your activity group
yourselves into 3 and you are going to
create poem or story( depends on your
choice) using the three kinds of figures of
speech. Minimum of 4 stanzas only for
the poem and for the story minimum of
100 words. You only have 15 minutes to
do it. Assign your own leader, secretary
and the reporter.
After you have done it you are going to
send one representative to report or to
read what you have done. You may start
now.

After 15 minutes.

Reporter of group one starts to report.

Now class let us start the ball rolling. May
we hear the work of group 1 .

So the group one wrote a story

Let us give 3 claps.

Group two reports.

Next group 2 .

So the group two made poem.

3 claps for them .

The reporting goes on……

IV. EVALUATE

Give commendations :
You made a great job class.
You are all creative in writing stories and
poems.

I am happy because not all of you have

written a story but rather 2 groups made
a story and the other 2 groups wrote a
Students started to clap for themselves.
poem. You are all excellent. And because
of that let us all give a big hand to all of us
for you have made a great work.

And recommendations
Let us hear any feedbacks and
recommendations from each groups
about the work of each group. Let us all
be open minded about this class for
everybody’s improvement. Then after that
I will give my own recommendations for
each groups.

Integration of Values in Learning

I. ENGAGE

Good morning class Good morning ma’am.

Imagine that you love a person and that

person is an enemy of your family, what are
you going to do? Are you going to pursue it or students will answer
just surrender and set aside the love that you
have for him/her? Why or why not?

Today we are going to watch a movie that

gives an answer to the question I’ve raised a
while back which is entitled Romeo and
Juliet and I would like you to take note about
the important details of the movie. And
understand the course of the story. For after
you have watched the movie I will ask
questions.

(After they have finished the watching of

movie.)

Who are the lovers in the story? Romeo and Juliet

Why do you think that the Capulet and the

Montagues hate each other? Answer

How did Romeo and Juliet endured the

obstacles and hardships in their relationship?
Answer

II. EXPLORE

Ok. Class, to test that you have

understood plot of the story, may I ask ( Peter started to retell the story)
one student to start relating the story. Yes
Peter.
John continues the story telling

Ok. Peter, stop , and I would John to

continue the story.

Ok. Pattie, continue

Dianne, continue the story.

Lety answered.

So class, since you have now understood

the course of the story. Let me ask you, If
you are Juliet, are you going to do what
she did, when she found out that Romeo
Kris shared her opinion.
was dead? Why or why not?

Ok nice, answer Lety. Who else wants to

share their opinions? Yes Kris.

Good answer Kris. Iya shares her answer.

Ok next question, Why do you think that

the Montagues and the Capulets are
fighting with each other? Does it have Ivana shares her answer.
something to do with their wealth and
popularity?

Good Iya.

How about you Ivana, may I hear your

reason ?

the story? And how are you going to apply
it in your life?

Selena, may I hear from you an answer? Student answered.

Very good Selena. How about the moral

of the story?

III. EXPLAIN
Romeo and Juliet is an enduring tragic
love story written by William Shakespeare
about two young-star crossed lovers
whose deaths ultimately unite their
feuding families. Romeo and Juliet fall in
love in a world of feuding and hostility
but their love for each other struggles
against all the obstacles and though they
meet a tragic end, their deaths bring love
and reconciliation to Verona.

So class why do you think William

Shakespeare wrote a story like this?
Ma’am, I think it is because William
wants to remind and address every
Anyone who can answer me why? feuding families, that hating each other
doesn’t bring good outcome at all.

Nice. Point Jen.

Because nowadays there are lots of
feuding families who really hate each
other just because of some things.

What else? What do you think is the Ma’am I think the essence of that story is
significance of this story? to tell the world that love conquers
everything and love has a great power in
conquering every difficulties.

Nice idea.

So as we are really going to look on the

story, the story wants to tell us the power
of love.

IV. ELABORATE
Now it is time for you guys to shine and
apply the lesson that you’ve learned. So
now I would like to divide the class into 3
and think of a way that you can present
the plot of the story “Romeo and Juliet”
may it be a radio play, interview style,
pantomime, skit , and etc. I will give you
15 minutes to prepare and have your
practice. You only have 5 minutes to
present.

After 15 minutes.

May I now call the group 1. The group one presented a radio play

Very Good group 1.

Group 2 presented a pantomime
Next group 2

Nice job group 2.

Next group 3 Group 3 presented a skit

Very Good group 3
