Student information:
Name: ___________
Major: Chemical Engineering
Company: University
Location: USA
Company Information:
I worked on a research project of analyzing the generation of Tolerogenic dendritic cells in department of chemical
engineering at University. Chemical engineering department has very essential role in research and development as well
as in providing quality education and skills to the students. Chemical engineering department has done many researches
not only on new developments but also on many ongoing projects funded by industry. Chemical engineering department
help university in earning capitals from researches. Laboratories of chemical engineering department also help and assist
in experimentation of other departments in university. This department provides undergraduate as well as postgraduate
programs. Researches done in chemical engineering department are explicit and authentic.
Chemical engineering department have professional facility that help university whenever asked for consultancy and
assistance for public and well as private projects. The main role of chemical engineering department in university is to
educate and facilitate students in making them highly skilled chemical engineer. It prepares the students for their
professional careers in different fields. The other role is to cooperate with industries, universities and organizations for
research and development.
Work environment:
On my arrival at the department, I was guided by the front desk staff to my orientation. Initially, I received a formal
orientation from the head of department and faculty. It was organized in a chemical engineering hall. There were other
internship students also present. We were taught about the rules and regulations of the department and structure of
internship was explained. They gave complete plan for my internship. Later, I was introduced to all faculty members and
especially to my professor with whom I will be working. They took me to the laboratory in which I will be working. The
orientation helped me in adopting the environment and it introduced me to the whole department.
The working environment in chemical engineering department and its laboratories is very professional and unhindered. It
is perfect place for any motivated student who wants to learn. Everything is very systematic and staff as well as faculty is
very understanding. Time management and following rules and regulations are very important here. Everyone in
department work as team and support each other.
During my internship, my routine was very scheduled and managed. It was made for me to learn. It was mandatory for me
to work at least 6 hours in laboratory every day. I had to report to my professor every day. I worked five days a week. I
have to submit progress report weekly.
Chemical engineering department had done everything in supporting for my research. They organized weekly meetings
with different experts from my research area. They had also organized an event for internship researchers where we
interacted to professionals from our related fields.
Long and short term projects:
During my internship, I worked at ongoing long term project in research on analyzing the generation of Tolerogenic
dendritic cells in department of chemical engineering at University. In this project the Tolerogenic dendritic cells were
generated through the process that includes limiting the differentiation of effector T cells, inhibition of production of
prionflammatory and T helper (Th)1 cytokines, augmentation the production of anti-flammatory and Th2 cytokines,
activating STAT3 signal, AhR activation, lowering DCs capacity to stimulate T cells and potentiated Th2 polarization.
In short term project, I was assigned with the inhibition of production of prionflammatory and T helper (Th)1 cytokines
process. Where I worked on designing of inhibitor and studied the suitable conditions for the inhibition. I was working in
team. At the end of the long term and short term project, I felt very encouraged and motivated to work on this project. We
accomplished the design of inhibitor successfully. The project was very tough and it required hard work. During the
project, I went through tough drills of researches. But at the end of project, I felt relieved to see it successful. The most
challenging part was to develop and design inhibitor and to run it successfully. My greatest accomplishment was this
design just like a piece of art from an artist.
Experimental learning:
Following is the list of technical skills that I learned and practiced:

 Technical report writing that I practiced many times during experimentation.

 Lab interface or lab software learning.
 MATLAB practicing and learning.
 Engineering drawing and graphing for inhibitor design.
 Learning of ISO health and safety standards
The most important thing that I learned during the experimentation is time management and professionalism. During stay
in lab my approach became more professional and I become more punctual.
Traveled experience and international engagements:
The internship schedule was very tough and I had very little time for travelling on weekends. Due to restrictions of
COVID-19, international travelling was not possible. Therefore, I travelled to research department for biochemistry for
interaction with industrial researchers. I travelled with my team.
Overall impression and advice to new students:
Doing internship in research project in chemical engineering department was one of my best experience throughput my
studies. It taught me many things. I think every student should do internship on research project at least once during
studies. It not only helps in learning but also opens areas for pursuing career. There are few problems that you can face
during internship such as adopting new environment, tough schedule and working as team with people of different nature,
but in the end it has many benefits such as skill development, time management, working as team and technical
understanding. If any student is looking to pursue internship in research project in chemical engineering department,
he/she should be ready for tough routine but a lot of learning.
