“Pedagogy in the New Normal Environment”

As this pandemic of Covid-19 had continued for approximately 16 months here in

the Philippines, many lives of Filipinos had evolved already, their livelihood, their living
style, their jobs from office to work from home for those lucky workers whom their
company did not close even during this crisis, and for the student from physical
classroom to online classroom in Google meet or ZOOM, then a modular blended
learning for the students who are in the remote areas in which internet source or signal
is there problem.

This crisis of Covid-19 pandemic has changed the pedagogy or teaching

methods for teachers in the classroom, from physical classroom where teachers and
learners can interact directly in the four corners of the classroom, but now, it had
changed to online classroom, where in the educators and learners has a limited
interaction types and time. The learners will only interact one by one when answering
their oral activities and teachers should talk only when their learners are muted, so their
activities are guided with the online rules in the classroom.

Online learning requires planning, preparation, diligence and a degree of

expertise not just for the teacher, but especially for enabling and support systems. But
not all schools, parents, learners are ready for the online learning transmission, some
schools would lack facilities and parents and learners may lack also the facilities and
the resources, like it would add another cost for them to connect an internet or buying
data and the mobile phones, laptops or pc that their children would possibly use.

This pandemic is a challenging action for the educators, parents and learners,
because what normally works in the classroom would not necessarily be so in distance
learning. This presents quite a challenge to the instructor making the first shifts online.
Instructors must adapt intelligently with a keen sense of sensitivity to the online format.
The challenge is to build rich activities that keep students engaged. But still educators,
parents & learners would remain steadfast in these challenges, perhaps, support from
each other is what is needed to connect to their child, feel connected with their
classmates and educators, to learn from each other, share their experiences in coping
this crisis, and build a positive community to grow together in their education and life
challenges.
Teachers will have to embrace and master the technology that would establish
connection and interactions at a different level toward a rich learning environment.
Mastering a different kinds of online applications such quiz.com, Zoom, Google
classroom, Meet, and other social media that would enhanced and make the learning
flexible. Teachers may use the gamification, classroom gamification which is effective
for child’s who’d love to learn while playing, a convergent and divergent thinking, a
project based learning for the modular students- whom they can make their own version
of their project, the experiential learning, the peer teaching, the inquiry based learning
for online class, the problem based learning, reciprocal learning, etc. these are the new
strategies of teaching that educators may use depending on the type, level and need of
the learners. This pandemic has caused us surprised challenges, which mostly are not
prepared, but everyone can cope to this, if we adapt to the changes or to this new
environment and be innovative with our style of living.
