with the click of your mouse you send
all this into action. more than 2,000
employees at this facility in a gateway
to the gorge pack and ship to people
locally regionally and around the
country. this is a people driven business
and we complement that through the
technology of the robotics. the mega
retail giants $15 minimum wage solid
benefits and career choice program are
appealing. but Amazon has been under fire
the past couple years. fulfillment center
employees are protesting poor and
demanding conditions saying they're
treated as just a number. I asked Mike
Moore this facilities GM what he's doing
to make this a better place to work.
everything I do in this building is
driven to give a better associate
experience so yes we've seen some things
across the nation but we really
encourage that First Amendment right. but
it's been business as usual here at this
building. this building is one Troutdale
business owners I spoke with feel is
bringing more good than bad. that area
where the Reynolds aluminum plant was
has been sitting for years with nothing

there just you know an awful piece of
dirt and for them to come in and add to
the community was a good thing. though
Troutdale general store owner Terry
Smoke does worry a bit about Amazon's
impact on mom-and-pop shops of course
you always think about when you're in
retail what's Amazon gonna do for retail
but you know I it's the future we get it. and
business owners say the tech giant is
bringing more people and business to the
community they shop here people are
living in the community that worked
there. the economy port there's more
lunches all the time. they believe the
huge tax incentives Amazon gets from the
state will have long-term benefits in
the Gateway to the gorge. I would say
they're going to make a big impact in
this area as far as jobs are concerned
and being part of the community not just
a big company here which I think is
important by the way you may have
noticed Amazon's footprint has expanded
quite a bit in Oregon over the last
couple years they now own 19 facilities
and stores across the state and they say
they've created about 3,500 jobs so far
