Critical Analysis

To The Filipino Youth

Dr. Jose Rizal's poem "To the Filipino Youth" is primarily intended to convey the importance of youth
and their potential to affect the destiny of our Motherland. Despite the instability that our country was
in at the moment, Dr. Jose Rizal offers confidence.

Rizal lauded the coming generation in the poem. Rizal's initial testimonial and exposition of his
nationalism may be found in this poem. Rizal explicitly referred to the Philippines as his
home/motherland in this literary work, and he saw youth as crucial to nation-building Dr. Jose Rizal
wrote the poem "To the Filipino Young," which he dedicated to the Philippines' youth. He wished for
Filipino youth to use their strengths, talents, and skills to distinguish themselves not only for themselves,
but also for the acclaim and success of their motherland, the Philippines. Dr. Jose Rizal wished for
Filipino youngsters to develop their skills and use them to aid those in need. Dr. Jose Rizal also exhorted
the youth in this poem to refine and cultivate their artistic abilities, to enliven and reinforce their
scientific knowledge, and to look forward and continue their chain of obedience.

The poem "To the Filipino Youth," like the other works of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, is
unquestionably a masterpiece worth reading and studying. It is, in my opinion, a "genuine poem" since it
beautifully incorporates the key aspects of poetry. I was genuinely taken aback and impressed by the
style of writing, the message it attempts to emphasize and push on, and, of course, the honesty and
genuineness of what he wants to portray as I examined every line. These considerations piqued my
curiosity in continuing to read Jose Rizal's works. On the other hand, the message “To the Filipino Youth”
aims to transmit is very strong; strong enough to persuade/induce those who must be
persuaded/induced, the Filipino youth. As one of such folks, the minute I finished reading the poem, I
could feel the nationalistic courage within me glow brightly. It was telling me that I am one of our
country's existing hopes, and that with my skills, abilities, expertise, and knowledge, I am capable of
defending our country's freedom against oppressive forces seeking to oppress its land and people.
Furthermore, it was informing me that I, along with my peers, is responsible for protecting the
Philippines as a nation for myself and my fellow Filipinos, not for foreigners.

Finally, in terms of the poem's sincerity, I regard "To the Filipino Youth" to be a work from the heart with
no pretension, conceit, or facade, based on how I felt while reading it and the sentiments depicted on
each of the poem's lines. You can sense the hope that Dr. Jose Rizal saw in the youth of his time, and
hopefully in the young of the future.

We, the youth, should be guided appropriately by those who have acquired wisdom—our parents,
teachers, and elderly—through meaningful activities and dialogues that will make us comprehend the
essence of our life, what is right or wrong, and what is good or bad for our country. We must motivate
ourselves, and we must communicate the importance of accountability and goal-setting to everyone.
We shall be supporting an entire generation of empty citizens who live in promiscuity, corruption, and
violence if we refuse to have everything rectified as soon as feasible.

We must all show our critics that they are wrong. By working hard to achieve our goals, we can
demonstrate our intelligence, abilities, and skills. We must demonstrate our capabilities because every
journey will present a challenge. However, if we open our minds to these problems, we can learn from
them and become better citizens of this country. We must cherish our education, as Dr. Jose Rizal
recommends. We can only become the young people our national hero wishes for us if we learn.
