Exercise 2. Throwback Thursday
Direction: Draw or post a photo (real old photo) from your childhood which reminds you
of a common experience that you and the young Rizal experience. Give a description of
the photo (year, location, occasion/ event it portrayed), and explain how does it relate to
the childhood of the young Rizal. Use the hashtag - #throwbackAKO

This photo is taken in the year 2006 in our house located at Prk. San Miguel,
Poblacion, Polomolok, South Cotabato. It is a photograph taken by our mother, wherein
the subject is me and my two older brother. I can clearly remember that time when we
we’re answering our homeworks and our mom told us to sit on the chair at the corner.
As I read the childhood of Jose Rizal, there are so many things that I think I can
relate to. One of them is the part wherein Jose Rizal grew up in a loving family who
encouraged him to develop new skills and achievements in life. His mother is the one
who first thought him how to read and write, and read him stories when he is already
tired and drowsy. In the picture above, I can say that I and Rizal have the same
experienced. My mother is there to teach me things and always read stories every time I
go to sleep. My papa is supposedly the one who does all those things but since he
needs to work abroad at those times, he was not able to continue our daily routine.
As I also read the childhood life of Jose Rizal, I noticed that he is really fond of
his siblings. Maybe it is the reason why he has huge respect for women even with his
young age. He is such a gentleman because of how his mother and sisters influence
and taught him how to be a good man. With this, I can say that we are alike in these
aspects. My mother and my older brothers are the one who is always there for me, the
one who teaches me almost everything in life. So, I am really into advocating for
women's rights.
Also, same as Rizal, I'm someone who is fond of reading different kinds of books.
I also tend to be curious about every little thing in my surrounding. Maybe that is why I
mostly base my knowledge and certainties in life on books. As I read the childhood of
Rizal, it is perceived how he loves books and reading them. He also mostly based his
knowledge on what he reads in books, letters, and newspapers.
If I would be comparing my childhood and the childhood of Jose Rizal, what
comes to my mind is what the above picture conveys. It is the bond and influence of a
mother and an brothers on my development as a person. The happiness, life-long, and
academic learnings that were instilled by our mother, are the ones that first mold our
character growth. A close relationship that offers care, respect, and wisdom is what we
have both experienced in our early days.
Overall, Jose Rizal is a prominent person that many has respected. Even though
we have some similarities in our childhood, his achievements in life and as a person are
something that I know we are incompatible with. We have different paths to take,
different dreams to fulfill. Having the same childhood is just a small aspect of one's life, I
believe that we have our own goals and direction in life which we will be proud of.
