OTHER VOLUTE TYPE CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS

 Condensate Pumps – Removal of condesate from a condenser hot well imposes severe
operation conditions on a pump.
 Closed-Coupled Pumps – A trend with pumps of the smaller sizes is to combine the pump and
the sdriving motor into a single unit.
 Nonclogging Pumps – Many other designs of pumps are available for special services
 Paper Stock Pumps – This pump has as semi-enclosed impeller.
 Pumps for handling abrasive materials – pumps to handle material such as sand and ashes mixe
with water must be of special construction to resist abrasive action of the material handled and
to provide for easy repair of the parts subject to wear.
 Packingless umps – Packing-less pumps in several forms and for various purposes have been
developed.
 Chemical Pumps – in the chemiacal industry, centrifugal pumps are used to handle all kinds of
acids, alkalis and other corrosive solutions.
 Glass Pumps – A primary purpose of the pyrex-galss pump is for use in the process industries for
pumping acids, milk, fruits juices and other acid solutions without attack on the pump parts and
without contamination the liquid being handled, by the decomposition of the pump materials.
 Hot Oil and High-Pressure Pumps – for handling hot volatile liquids, such as in oil refineries and
other places, a wide variety of pumps is required, designed to stand the corrosive action of the
liquids dandled, high temperatures, high pressure, and in some applications, a combination of all
three.
 Rannet Pump – it is a special combination of volute-type centrifugal pump and motor for
operation on a gasoline pipe rather than a special design of a pump.
 Pneumatic Sponges and Sumpumps – in mines, foundation excavations, and similar places there
is frequently need for air- operation centrifugal pumps.

SOME OF THE DIFFFUSER-TYPE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP

 Hydraucone Pumps – The hydraucone pump is of two-stage design with opposed impellers to
give axial hydraulic balance.
 Hot Oil Pump – Used for charging oil-refinery cracking oils.

APPLICATIONS OF TURBINE PUMPS

 Boiler Feed Service – One of the important applicants is to feed boilers with up to 5000 ft2
heating surface at pressure of 60 to 250 psi.
 Condesate Returns – Turbine pumps are also used on condensate-returns units where steam-
heating boilers operate at 15 to 150 psi.
 Air Conditioning – in refrigeration and air conditioning system turbine pumps are used to supply
water to small cooling towers, for brine circulation and the recovery and transfer of liquid
refrigerants.
 Shallow Wells – in shallow wells, turbine pumps deliver nearly rated capacity on suction lifts to
22ft. at 28ft suction lift, capacity drops about 50%.
 Other Applications – turbine pumps are widely used for handling liquefied petroleum gases such
as propane and butane.
SOME OF THE PROPER PUMPS

 Mixed Flow Pumps – Defined as one in which the head is developed partly by lift of the vanes on
the liquid.
 Axial Flow Pumps- A propeller pump, sometimes called an AXIAL FLOW pump, developed most
of its head by the propelling action of the vanes on the liquid.
 Vertical Pumps – Propeller and mixed flow type pumps are frequently arranged for vertical
operation
 Adjustable-Blade Propeller Type – to overcome some of the disadvantages of the fixed blade
propeller pumps has been developed with adjustable blade impellers.

STEAM-DRIVEN RECIPROCATING PUMPS MAY BE CLASSIFIED AS:

 Direct acting
 Simplex
 Duplex
 Quintuplex
THESE DESIGN MAY BE FURTHER CLASSIFIED AS
1. Single-Acting
2. Double-Acting
3. Piston and plunger type
4. Inside and outside-packed type
