We are here to help you and are sharing a list of frequently asked questions. While we have tried to
answer the relevant portion of your query, we also advise you to go through the policy document for
all the Terms and Conditions. Please approach our TPA for further guidance or write to us on
covid.mediclaim@newindia.co.in.

1. I do not have a mediclaim policy. Can I take a Health Insurance now and if I am hospitalized,
whether I can claim under this policy from day one?
Yes you may take a policy. All Health Insurance policies have a waiting period of 30 days. Any
claim within 30 days from the date of inception are not payable.

2. My policy is due for renewal. Due to present lockdown, I am not able to go to concerned
office for payment of premium and renew the policy. What should I do?
You can log on to our customer portal at www.newindia.co.in giving your expiring policy
number and customer id (Party code mentioned in the policy) and make payment on-line and
renew the policy. Alternately, you can also approach your agent for renewal of your policy.

Further, If your policy renewal is between 25/3/2020 to 14/4/2020, the premium can be
remitted on or before 21/4/2020. The policy is renewed from due date without any break in
coverage, provided the premium is remitted on or before 21/4/2020.

Policies so renewed may avail of reimbursement facility. Provided the hospital is authorized
by the Government Authorities and is so accredited or hospitals permitted by ICMR.

3. In case of claim, what should I do and whom should I contact?


The claims are being serviced by the Third Party Administrator (TPA) whose name and contact
details are printed in the policy schedule. In case of planned hospitalization, please inform the
TPA in advance and in other cases, the claim intimation needs to be given within 24 hours of
hospitalization. We have also displayed the contact details of TPAs in our website.

4. Whether claim pertaining to COVID 19 are payable?


The treatment at Government hospitals is free of cost but if incurred at a hospital authorised
by the Government Authorities and is so accredited or hospitals permitted by ICMR the
Hospitalization expenses due to COVID-19 are payable just like other claims, subject to the
terms and conditions of the policy.

5. Is the cost of quarantine for COVID 19 covered under the policy?


In case it is advised by Government, it is conducted at Government Hospitals/ facilities and is
free of cost.

6. Is the diagnostic test for COVID 19 covered under the policy if ordered by the Government?
In case it is advised by Government, it is conducted at Government Hospitals/ Labs and is free
of cost.
7. Will the diagnostic test for COVID 19 covered under the policy if tested positive?
Yes, provided the insured person is hospitalised at the Government accredited hospital or
hospitals permitted by ICMR for a minimum period of 24 hours and cost of test is payable
under pre hospitalisation expenses.

8. What happens when I undergo testing for COVID 19 and it turns out negative? Will I get the
expenses for the investigation reimbursed?
No. Any expenses incurred without hospitalization of 24 hours is not payable under the policy.
Further any hospitalisation needs to be as advised by the Government Authorities/ ICMR listed
hospitals.

9. Is the treatment cost of my family members covered if they have acquired the COVID 19
infection because of me?
Admissible subject to
a. Them also having a valid insurance in force
b. Hospitalisation of minimum 24 hours at Government accredited hospital or hospitals
permitted by ICMR
c. Other conditions enumerated above do apply

10. What about the quarantine expenses of my family members incurred because of me, who
is the carrier?
In case it is advised by Government, it is conducted at Government Hospitals/ facilities and is
free of cost.

11. Do I have to pay additional premium for covering COVID 19 under my health Insurance?
No. There is no additional premium to be paid for covering COVID 19. Our Mediclaim policy
covers hospitalisation expenses due to illness/injury including COVID 19.

12. Are treatment taken for COVID 19 in private hospitals covered under the policy?
Yes, provided the hospital is authorised by the Government Authorities and is so accredited
or hospitals permitted by ICMR. If the hospitalization falls within the scope of the policy terms
and conditions, it will be covered.

13. Is the Cashless facility available during this lock down?


Yes, the Cashless facility is uninterrupted and can be availed at the Network Hospital. Kindly
contact the TPA with a valid insurance policy for assistance.

14. Due to lockdown, I am unable to submit the documents to TPA for reimbursement. What
do I do?
Please get in touch with the TPA and seek help.
