includes the following changes.
2 Overview
This chapter describes the physical objects, logical objects and carrier resources related to
carrier management and the relationships of the physical and logical objects.
2.1.1 Cell
A cell is a radio coverage area identified by a base transceiver station identity code (BSIC) or
cell global identification (CGI). A cell is the smallest service unit for an MS to access a
network and consists of sectors and carriers.
For a GSM cell, the power configured for carriers in the cell determines the cell coverage
range. The maximum number of carriers and output power of each carrier supported by an RF
module are limited by its hardware capabilities. For details about the specifications, see
product descriptions for each module in 3900 Series Base Station Product Description. For
example, for details about the RRU3929 specifications, see RRU3929 Description.
2.1.2 Sector
Basic Concept
A sector is a geographical area with radio coverage and a cell sub-area. Each sector can be
served by one or multiple carriers. Each carrier uses a single frequency in non-FH scenarios
or uses multiple frequencies in FH scenarios. A GBTS is configured with only cells instead of
sectors.
Sectors are classified as either omnidirectional or directional.
l An omnidirectional sector is a circular area that uses an omnidirectional antenna as its
center. Omnidirectional sectors are used to cover light-traffic areas.
l Directional sectors in a cell use multiple directional antennas for cell coverage. For
example, if three directional sectors form a cell, each directional antenna covers a 120-
degree area. In practice, the azimuth of an antenna is greater than the specified value.
Therefore, there is an overlap area between the sectors. Directional sectors are used to
cover heavy-traffic areas.
l Different RF channels for an RF module can map onto different sectors, as shown in
Figure 2-2.
l Multiple RF modules can map onto several sectors, such as multi-site cells. The area
covered by RF channels of these RF modules is defined as a cell, as shown in Figure
2-3. Each sector of a multi-site cell is defined as a subsite.
Sector Antenna
A sector antenna sets up an association relationship between antennas and RF resources.
Each RF channel of an RF module supports only a single sector antenna, as shown in Figure
2-4.
2.2.2 RF Resources
RF resources are deployed on RF modules and implement the transceiver functions. RF
resources include the number of TX/RX antennas, supported power, and frequency bands
used by carriers.
Indicates a logical cell. Local Cell ID must be set to the value of Local Cell ID for
GLOCELL on the eGBTS side.
b. GTRX
Indicates a logical carrier. TRX Group ID must be set to the value of TRX Group
ID for GTRXGROUP on the eGBTS side.
2. On the eGBTS Side
a. GLOCELL
Indicates a local cell. A local cell must be configured for a logical cell on the
eGBTS side.
b. SECTOR
Indicates a sector. A sector is a geographical area with radio coverage. Sector ID
uniquely specifies a sector in an eGBTS.
NOTE
In a co-MPT base station, if different modes share the same RX or TX channel, plan only
one SECTOR for the shared RX or TX channel. If different modes use different RX or TX
channels, plan one or more SECTOR based on the actual requirements.
c. SECTOREQM
Indicates sector equipment. It is a combination of RF channels in a sector. Sector
Equipment ID uniquely identifies a piece of sector equipment in an eGBTS.
NOTE
l You can configure sector equipment using both SECTOREQM and SECTOR. If you
configure sector equipment using SECTOREQM, Create Default Sector Equipment
for SECTOR must be set to FALSE(FALSE). If you configure sector equipment using
SECTOR, Create Default Sector Equipment must be set to TRUE(TRUE) and
Default Sector Equipment ID must be specified.
l To facilitate independent planning of GUL cells in a co-MPT base station, it is
recommended that GUL cells use different SECTOREQM. If cells of different modes
use the same SECTOREQM, the same RX or TX channel must be planned for these
cells.
d. GTRXGROUP
Indicates a TRX group. A TRX group consists of carriers with the same deployment
restrictions in a cell.
NOTE
Sending Mode and Receiving Mode of the TRX group must be consistent with Antenna
RX/TX Mode of the sector equipment bound to the TRX group. For example, if Receiving
Mode of the TRX group is set to SINGLERECV(Single Receiver), the sector equipment
bound to the TRX group can be configured with at most one antenna that can receive
signals.

SECTOREQM in RF interconnection scenarios
NOTE
l In RF interconnection, RF modules are interconnected using two interconnection cables over the
RX_IN/OUT port.
l RF interconnection can be intra-system interconnection or inter-system interconnection. In intra-
system interconnection, two interconnected RRUs/RFUs are managed by the same main control
board. In inter-system interconnection, two interconnected RRUs/RFUs are managed by different
main control boards.
l Use intra-system interconnection only when the two RRUs/RFUs managed by the same main control
system are configured with GSM. In other scenarios, use inter-system interconnection.

3 Engineering Guidelines
Figure 3-2 and Figure 3-3 show the procedure for configuring carriers for an eGBTS.
NOTE
If LTE is used rather than LTE FDD or LTE TDD for Supported RAT in this section, the LTE mode can
be the LTE FDD mode or LTE TDD mode. L is short for LTE FDD ,T is short for LTE TDD.
For the GBTS, you are advised to set the RXU Specification parameter to BYNAME(By Name) and
the RXU Spec Name parameter to an appropriate value.
Table 3-1 describes the mappings between the RF module types and the configuration
parameters.

NOTE
For example, when the MRFU V1 works in GSM mode, it needs to be configured on the
GSM side. The parameter settings for the MRFU V1 are as follows:
l RF module type
l Number of RF modules
l Number of antenna ports in a cell
l Number of carriers configured in a cell
l AB_CD and AC_BD indicate channel combination relationships, which are used for
transmit diversity, dynamic transmit diversity, and GL power sharing. AB_CD indicates
that channels A and B are in a group, and channels C and D are in a group. AC_BD
indicate that channels A and C are in a group, and channels B and D are in a group.
A_B_C_D indicate that the four channels are independently used. In this case, transmit
diversity, dynamic transmit diversity, and GL power sharing are not supported.
l Intra-Group TX/RX Separation indicates that two channels in a group receive and
transmit signals, respectively. For example, the value AB_CD_Intra-Group TX/RX
Separation indicates that channels A and B are in a group, which receive and transmit or
transmit and receive signals respectively, and channels C and D are in a group, which
receive and transmit or transmit and receive signals respectively.
l Inter-Group TX/RX Separation indicates that channels in one group transmit signals,
and channels in the other group receive signals. For example, the value AB_CD_Inter-
Group TX/RX Separation indicates that channels A and B in one group receive or
transmit signals, and channels C and D in the other group transmit or receive signals.

Same l When MRFUd, MRFUd V6, or MRFUdw V6
sector modules are used together with other types of
RFU modules, neither inter-module RF FH nor
inter-PA power sharing is supported.
l When GRFU modules are used together with
MRFU or MRFUe modules, both inter-module
RF FH and inter-PA power sharing are supported.
l When different types of RFU modules are used
together, if both inter-module RF FH and inter-PA
power sharing are required, the software of the
base station, base station controller, and CME
must be upgraded to their required versions.
l In the same subsite of a multi-site cell, only
RRU3008 V1 and RRU3008 V2 modules can be
used together, and only RRU3908 V1 and
RRU3908 V2 modules can be used together.

The BTS configuration operations in all scenarios are the same. The configuration objects and
quantity in these scenarios, however, are different.
Table 3-9 uses RRU3929 (900 MHz) as an example to describe carrier configurations.
The send and receive bandwidths of an RF module are limited. For example, the send and
receive bandwidths of an RRU3929 (900 MHz) are 35 MHz. Therefore, the total bandwidth
of all carriers on each channel must be within 35 MHz. Otherwise, the BSC and CME will fail
to verify configurations.
The capacity of an RF module is limited. For example, the two channels of an RRU3929 (900
MHz) support a maximum of eight 1T2R carriers, and a single channel supports a maximum
of six 1T2R carriers. If the configuration exceeds this limitation, the BSC and CME fail to
verify configurations.
The procedure for configuring carriers for an RRU3929 (900 MHz) is as follows:
1. Configure power of carriers in the cell based on the planned cell coverage. The power is
specified by the Power Type parameter in the BSC MML command SET GTRXDEV.
If the cell is a concentric cell, the carrier power in the underlaid subcell is greater than
that in the overlaid subcell. If the cell is not a concentric cell, the power of carriers in the
cell is the same. That is, the power of the BCCH TRX is the same as that of non-BCCH
TRXs. The power supported by RF modules varies depending on their specifications.
For details about the specifications, see " Reference for Configuring RF Module Power"
in BSC6900 GSM Product Documentation or BSC6910 GSM Product Documentation by
choosing Operation and Maintenance > Configuration Management > BSC6900
GSM Initial Configuration Guide or BSC6910 GSM Initial Configuration Guide >
Configuration Reference Information > Configuration Reference for the GBTS/
eGBTS. Alternatively, you can see "Typical Power Configuration Reference for RF
Modules" in 3900 Series Base Station Product Documentation by choosing Description
> Technical Description > 3900 Series Base Station Technical Description > Product
Specifications.
2. Determine the send mode and receive mode of carriers. The send mode and receive
mode of carriers are jointly determined by carrier power and RF module types. For a
GBTS, run the BSC MML command SET GTRXDEV to set the send mode and receive
mode for carriers. For an eGBTS, run the eGBTS MML command ADD
GTRXGROUP to set the send mode and receive mode for carriers. For details about the
configurations of the send mode and receive mode, see 3.4.6 Data Preparation of
Typical Send and Receive Modes for RF Modules.
3. Determine the antenna send and receive mode of an RF module based on the send mode
and receive mode of carriers. For a GBTS, run the BSC MML command SET
BTSRXUBP to set the antenna send and receive modes. For an eGBTS, run the eGBTS
MML command ADD SECTOREQM to set the antenna send and receive modes. For
details about the configurations of antenna send and receive modes, see 3.4.6 Data
Preparation of Typical Send and Receive Modes for RF Modules.

GCELL has two TRXs.
