LIFE OF ST. LA SALLE

Directions: Read chapter 9 -10 of the story of St. John Baptist De La Salle and answer the following
questions.

1. What makes the Brother of Christian School different or similar from the other:
· Religious Communities
· Schools/Institutions
The difference of the Brother of Christian School from other religious communities/ schools are
education is their priority and they don’t have any other missions. On the other hand, their similarities are
religious vows, obedience, chastity, poverty and able to offer their entire life to the three occupations to
which they have devoted their lives — to prayer, for they `are religious, wearing a religious habit and
following religious rule of life.

2. What certain situations in the life of La Salle as a mentor and as founder that you want to imitate
and why?

“Learning is the light of human mind.” Education gives us knowledge to understand the world and
develop our perspectives in life. This help us to make better decisions due to circumstances that we face
every day. Moreover, education helps us to behave, feel and think clearly and appropriately. Therefore, I
want to imitate La Salle’s passion to teach and dedication to build an institution.

3. St. de la Salle and the first twelve Brothers made temporary vows— vows by which they
promised to obey the superior of the Institute and to remain with the Brothers during one year. So just like
La Salle and the brothers, if you have to promise one thing for yourself, for your family and for your
school, what it is and why?

Our life is short to spend on unnecessary battles. And, most of the times we are invited to a handful of
battles. But, we should remember that the real happiness of life equates to the courage to look into the
better direction than winning and fighting on battles. Hence, if have a promise to myself, family and
school that would be choosing my battles wisely.

4. La Salle valued education so much that he wanted that every child should not be left behind. As a
follower of La Salle, how do you give value to education?

Education is vital for a productive society. This destroys the walls among us and facilitates empowerment
of each one of us. Therefore, as a follower of La Salle I can give value to education by showing interest to
it, studying appropriately, supporting the programs implemented by the institution or CHED and most of
all showing respect to our dear teachers who offered their time and effort for us to learn, aid us to reach
our goals and most importantly to become a better person.
