GENERAL

Starting of the Pratt and Whitney engines is provided by a

DC starter/generator.

The system is controlled from the flight compartment

overhead panel.

The main components of the system are :

- The starter/generator (1PU/2PU) (Ref. Chapter 24)

- Start contactor (1KG/2KG)

- Battery contactor (3KG)

- ENG START selector switch (13KG)

- START 1 (2) pushbutton switch (5KG/6KG).

On ground with ENG START selector switch 13KG in
- Contactors position coherence protection START (A or B or A + B or CRANK) position, the contact
position of SC's is detected by means of the BPCU.
- Differential fault protection (DP). If the contact position of one of three (1KG, 2KG or 3KG) is
different from the commanded one the starting sequence is
inhibited.

In this condition FAULT legend on START 1 or START 2

pushbutton switch 5KG or 6KG comes on accompanied by
the associated crew alerting system.

In flight, the same thing occurs but the start cycle

initialization is not inhibited: in flight, priority is given to the
engine's starting (in closed position remaining SC can safely
interrupt the start sequence when required).
