The use of existing shafts allows the installation of modern lift systems without taking up any
extra space. The installation of new lift systems in existing stairwells or by creating a new shaft on
the outside of the building is gaining increasing importance. However, construction in existing

You will find an overview of the cabin, door and shaft dimensions
• Layout of the machine room optionally right, left or behind the lift shaft for the above mentioned lift types in the following table.
• Preferred in lowest stopping point directly adjacent to the shaft
The evaluation criteria in the table are:
• Also possible away from shaft (line visible – in floor duct or ceiling duct)
• Sufficient ventilation for hydraulic lifts is specifically required (LBO) – One-sided loading in / through loading
• Building contractors must observe the Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) – Load capacity
• In the case of lift groups, combine the machine rooms of individual systems – Door type
• Fire protection door and fire proof machine room sealing must be provided by the building contractor
• Wall recess door 2,000 x 900 mm
Please also observe the Notes on planning in Chapter 1.

The design and construction of Schmitt + Sohn handrail components are based on
modular and systematic principles. Our handrail components are produced from
high-quality stainless steel – they fulfil maximum demands in terms of function,
ergonomics, convenience and operation.
The handrail brackets and handrail supports are made from solid stainless steel.
The handrail consists of stainless steel tube ø 33.70 mm. The stainless steel surfaces
are finish-ground.
The design principles facilitate various assembly configurations. The handrails can
each be assembled individually depending on the structure of the cabin on the side
and back walls. With special handrail brackets and handrail supports, all-round hand-
rails can be realised too for all types of designs.

Modern, harmonised lift components reduce downtimes, increase reliability and
enable more efficient use of the lift. This also provides the maximum level of
passenger comfort and safety.
Modernisation
The investment in modern lift systems is also well worthwhile with regard to cost
effectiveness. The significant reduction in maintenance and repair requirements
reduces the running costs. The use of energy-optimised assemblies can also reduce
the energy consumption of lift systems by up to 50%.
Group control unit Diagnostics and remote monitoring Our individual modernisation concepts combine as many of these advantages as
possible. The value retention of lift systems is one of our claims.

The emergency call system
The lift is equipped with safety devices to the highest technical standard. However, unforeseen
operational malfunctions and the trapping of passengers in the lift cannot always be avoided.
In this case, a quick reaction and professional assistance are essential.
The C 2000 emergency call system provides this assistance at the touch of a button.
– It detects when people are trapped in the lift.
– It connects the passenger with the 24h Schmitt + Sohn on-call centre.
– It ensures the professional care and release of trapped persons.
It therefore complies with the legal obligations incumbent on the operator.*
It also increases the availability of the lift system, in that the lift can be repaired and put
back into operation immediately. 24 hours per day, 365 days per year – by our own qualified
specialist personnel.

Since 2015 , operators have been responsible for assessing risks associated
with the system (risk assessment) and accordingly providing necessary and
appropriate protection measures.
The European standard DIN EN 13015 specifies all elements which must
be taken into account for proper maintenance. As a certified maintenance
company, Schmitt + Sohn has incorporated the DIN EN 13015 into its quality
management system acc. ISO 9000:2000.
Anyone who operates a lift system must ensure that emergency calls from a
cabin are responded to within an appropriate time, and that rescue meas-
ures are carried out properly.
This requires monitoring and regular checking of the serviceability of the lift
by a suitably qualified person on-site (lift attendant).
