A. Pre-reading
Vocabulary Development

1. Give the antonyms of the following words:


 Losing
 Trust
 Hated
 Wise
 Foes
 Unforgiving
Motivation
1. The teacher will ask the students to think of a song with the word “If”.
If the students will be able to think of a lyric the teacher will ask what it signals.
If the student will not be able to give the teacher will be the one to give.

Some lines of songs with “if” include the following:


 If I could reach you, I wish I could …
 If a picture paints a thousand words …
 If we both decide to try and make it more time …

2. The teacher will explain the meaning of the word “if”.

B. During-reading
1. The teacher reads the poem If by Rudyard Kipling orally.
2. The students will read it afterwards

C. Post-reading
The teacher will ask the ff. questions for compression response:
1) Who is talking in the poem?
2) To whom is the poem addressed?
3) What pieces of advice are given?
4) What qualities of man are mentioned in the poem? Cite lines to prove
your answer.
5) Why these qualities are important in a man.
