● Theme (mention if the problem statement comes under Environment, Social or

Governance issues) - 50 words

The team is proposing solutions to a problem that spans across inter-disciplinary themes
and has its roots stemming up environmental, social as well as governance related issues.
The idea is to enforce Regenerative Agriculture, leading to ecological restoration as well as
providing diverse international markets for indigenous produce.

● The problem statement - 100 words

The problem statement can be explained in 3 different layers-

Environmental Aspect- The soil quality is constantly deteriorating due to the

agricultural practices adopted by the farmers where excessive use of pesticides and
chemicals has led to multiple environmental problems.

Social Aspect- The agricultural produce by Indian farmers is slowly being homogenized into
specific crops such as wheat, barley due to the MSP awarded to farmers on these. These
are water intensive crops and deteriorate the quality of the soil after repeated sowing. This
can be changed by introducing farmers to better agricultural practices and technological
help.

Governance Aspect- The Indian farmer is unaware of the international market that is
available to them. For example, our primary focus is to grow crops such as wheat, rice and
maize whereas spices and medicinal crops are in high demand in the international market.
These opportunities must be shared with the farmer and they should be given the facilities of
transportation and storage in collaboration with government policies that will facilitate this
further.
● Analysis/proposed solution to the problem statement (your big idea) - 100
words

Solutions to a 3-fold problem are as follows-

Environmental Aspect- The solution to tackle the environmental problem is to diversify the
kind of crops that farmers are growing at a mass scale as that will lead to the replenishment
of the soil nutrients and that is called Regenerative Agriculture.

Social Aspect- Farmers are experiencing multiple problems such as price risk, information
asymmetry about demand, distribution inefficiency, and they also receive late payments from
multiple nodal points. This can be potentially solved by educating the farmer about the
multiple other options that are available to them and grow the crops in bulk. Statistically, for
example, India’s turmeric exports have touched $236 million (around Rs 1,632 crore) in 2018
and North America has emerged as the largest market for the commodity, according to
Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI). The elimination of intermediaries by taking control
of the Supply Chain by using technology and analytics can be done.

Governance Aspect- The policies that have been put in place by the government in terms of
the subsidies that are offered to the farmers engaged in growing millets and other such non-
conventional crops is something that can be employed to use for the purpose of providing a
solution in the governance aspect.
● Execution (in brief your strategic plan/structure to reach organizational goals) -
100 words
Our Execution plan is focussed on understanding the problems of farmers as a whole
and providing them solutions. We would like to help the farmers regarding soil with the
help of Drones and moisture detecting sensors. We can make farmers aware about the
usage of drones and recent technology used in farming practices.
Drones can help farmers to optimize the use of inputs (seed, fertilizers, water), to react
more quickly to threats (weeds, pests, fungi), to save time crop scouting (validate
treatment/actions taken), to improve variable-rate prescriptions in real time and estimate
yield from a field.
We would like to crowd fund the project and give drones to the farmer on a rental basis
to make it affordable and accessible to them. Then we would like to focus on the supply
chain technology to transport fresh fruits and vegetables to the market with the help of
government.

● Impact (in terms of cost, time impact, impact on beneficiaries or similar - 100
words
The advancement in technology has introduced a new economy, sociability and
consciousness among the people. The agriculture, with the help of technology, has got
transformed into an entrepreneurial enterprise. Empowering farmers with the right digital
tools and knowledge on end-to-end contemporary agricultural technologies and practices
including precision-agriculture, and sustainable-agriculture, has made a significant impact on
the agriculture sector. In its entirety, this model can help large and small farms alike harness
digital technologies to improve processes, boost their yield, and increase profitability, helping
to meet the growing global food demand and lowering the overall environmental, and
societal impact of farming.
