DOH Usec Domingo: confirms Diphtheria case

Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo stated that the Diphtheria case in the Philippines is slightly
high but cases do not constitutes outbreak.

After a student from Jacinto Zamora Elementary School reportedly died on September 20, 2019
due to a bacterial disease after being diagnose.

The shown symptoms of the child was rashes and mouth sores that leads to a disease called
Diphtheria.

This bacterial disease can be transmitted to another person by coughing or sneezing and usually
through respiratory droplets.

DOH said over 167 cases and 40 deaths were reported in relation to Diphtheria this year, higher
to the tallied case last year that round up to 122 cases and 30 deaths.

World Health Organization together with Department of Health urge parents to immunize their
children in order to beat Diphtheria.
