MOTHER IGNACIA e-STORY BOOK WITH VOICE ANALYSIS

Background of the Study

An electronic book is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both,
and produced on, published through, and readable on computers or other electronic devices. It is an
electronic version of a printed book, but e-books can and do exist without any printed equivalent. E-books
are usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-Readers or e-book devices. Personal
computers and some cell phones can also be used to read e-books.

Ebook formats and file types continue to develop and change through time through advances and
developments in technology or the introduction of new proprietary formats. While printed books remain
readable for many years, e-books may need to be copied or converted to a new carrier or file type over
time. E-books cannot provide the physical feel of the cover, paper, and binding of the original printed
work.

The researchers study is about an electronic story book with voice analysis that includes the story
of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo. In this study, the researchers took advantage of the new technology
to be used as a tool. In the interaction of the user and the system, it helps the user to sharpen their mind,
to be more attentive and to catch their attention by just listening to the story for them to understand well
the life of Mother Foundress and other significant learning.

The researchers took surveys about the e-book using voice analysis to the students and staff.
The researchers found out that there are students who have impoverished of the poor knowledge about
the study being conducted. Gathering the information based on the survey, the researchers concluded
that by using the e-story book, it can give additional information, learning and education to the users.
Other skills to be developed with the device are comprehension. Thus, users could readily answer
questions, thereafter; ask after listening to the story.

Statement of the Problem

The researchers conducted a survey about the life of Mother Ignacia and made questions for the
faculty and students for them to answer. With this, the group had recorded and listed the answers of the
said substituents. Regarding the result, it shows that most of the faculty and students of Marian
community who do not know the story of Mother Foundress.

It is being solved by having a student’s handbook for every student, in order for them to read the
life of Mother Ignacia. This is efficient because every student can read it but the problem is the poor
reading habits of the students who get easily bored on reading books.

The group decided to develop an electronic story book with voice analysis wherein the users will
just listen to the story and answer the questions that follows every after the story for deepening. The
solution for the problem uses the technology as a tool for the success of the study.

The members of Marian community can benefit because it is one way of learning the story of
Mother Ignacia as well as to develop their minds and comprehensive skills to be more attentive and also
for those students who are poor in reading habits.
Objectives of the Study

General Objective

To develop a tool that helps Marian community to know more about Mother Ignacia using
electronic story book with voice analysis.

Specific Objectives

 To convert a manual story book into an electronic story book for Marian community to learn more
information about the Mother Foundress in an entertaining way.
 To develop an e-story book to help students to be alert and active in answering questions that
follows for deepening every after a story.

Significance of the Study

Students. This study is significant to the students since it will provide another
technique for them to be interested in reviewing and knowing the life of
Mother Foundress of this institution. This application would be of
great help to stimulate the learning process of every student because
of the added questions in the application.

Teachers. This study can also help address to some teachers who did not know the
real life of the Mother Foundress.

Future Researchers. They will also benefit with this study by using another book adding some
books and makes new features, so that the Marian community will be
more attracted to it. It can also be a guide or a reference for future
studies of similar nature.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The thesis study is about the Mother Ignacia e-Storybook with Voice Analysis having the
scope and limitations as follows :

 The study is intended only for students and faculty of marian community.
 The is not a replacement to the RVM sisters who teach the life of the RVM Foundress
but a tool to make the students and teachers to become interested to know more about
the Mother Foundress.

 The system includes animations and graphical images of the Mother Foundress.

 The system will not analyze those voices having medical problems such as cold, cough,
sinusitis, fever, husky voice.

 Pain, discomfort, difficulty in controlling the pitch, loudness or quality of the voice.

 The e-Book contains only the life story of the Mother Foundress.

 The system includes “PLAY” and “QUESTION” button which the system performs the
instruction.
Definition of Terms

The following key terms used in this study were defined conceptually and operationally for clarity and
better understanding.

Algorithm- An effective method expressed as a finite list of well-

defined instructions, for calculating a function. It is used
for calculation, data processing, and automated
reasoning.

Electronic Story Book (e-Story Book) - It is the process of creating and disseminating
information via electronic.

Programming Language- It is an artificial language used to write a sequence of

instructions (a computer program) that can be run by a
computer.

Voice Analysis- The study of speech sounds for purposes other than
linguistic content, such as in speech recognition. Such
studies include mostly medical analysis of the voice i.e.
phoniatrics, but also speaker identification.
