The NOR and NAND Gates

Experiment No. 2.
Group Name:________________________ Date: ______________
Course: ____________ Sec: ____________
I. Digital Logic Gates:
1. NAND Gate. The NAND gate can have two or more input signals but has only one output
signal. All input signal must be high to produce low signal.

2. NOR Gate. The NOR gate can have two or more input signals but has only one output
signal. All inputs must be low to produce a high output. In other words, the NOR gate
recognizes only an input word whose bits area all low (0).

II. Objectives.
1. The experiment will use an inverter and an OR gate to produce a NOR gate and an
inverter and AND gate to produce a NAND gate. See legend below.
2. To know the other operations of the three basic gates in digital system.
3. To create the actual circuit of the NAND and NOR gates using different IC’s.

III. The three basic gates:

1. Inverter or Not gate. 4. NAND gate.
2. OR gate. 5. NOR gate.
3. AND gate.

VII. Questions:

Based on your experiment answer the following questions.

1. If pin 2 of 74LS04 connected to pin 3 of 74LS04 and pin 4 of 74LS04 connected to resistor
then to LED. What is the output or state of LED, if pin 1 of 74LS04 supply with High (1) signal?

2. What is a NOR gate?

3. What is a NAND gate?
