KEY
How Avanti found a forever home.

The first time I saw Avanti it was in a picture on a Facebook post. She was a sad looking,
hairless, and pitiful small dog. I sent a message to the person who had posted the little nameless
dog and offered help. I told her I would provide the dog with a foster home and cover the
expenses while she healed.

When we met up at the vet’s office I learned that not only did the dog have bad infections all
over her skin she was also going to have puppies! Despite her terrible condition she was a sweet
dog with a happy disposition. She was happy to have her belly rubbed even though she couldn’t
stop scratching. I named her Avanti- because she would move forward from that day on.

I took Avanti home and the first thing I did was give her a bath- she smelled terrible! A few days
later she gave birth to two tiny puppies, unfortunately only one survived. The surviving puppy was
a girl, and she grew to be feisty and hilarious. Avanti was a great mom. Through all her multiple
vet visits and medicated baths, she never neglected her momma duties.

Cute though she was, we were all relieved to see the puppy go when she got adopted by a
wonderful family. Puppies are a handful and even Avanti was ready to move on.

Over the subsequent months Avanti’s skin issues resolved, and with the right diet and medication
her hair grew back and she is now able to live a happy, loving life as every dog should. She has
grown accustomed to receiving daily meals and going on frequent walks. In the end, my offer to
foster her was a failure, as she found her forever home with me after all.
