• (5 points) Question 1 : Records of 2019, reveal that 23% of all pa-
tients who visited alternative medicine clinics were forgiven from pay-
ing bills. Suppose 4 patients are selected randomly from one alterna-
tive medicine clinic in Saskatoon, then
1. What is the probability that 2 patients will be forgiven from pay-
ing their bills??

• (5 points) Question 2 : If the duration of malignant ovary cancer
from the onset of symptoms until death ranges from 3 to 12 years,
the average is 7.31 years with a standard deviation of 4.03 years. One
administrator of a public medical center randomly selected the medical
records of 31 deceased women from the medical center’s database and
records the average duration. Find the probability for :
1. the average duration is greater than 6.8 years.

• (5 points) Question 3 : An investigator in a pharmaceutical com-
pany, claims that a certain drug dose level can induce sleep for 82%
of people suffering from high “Migraine”. The dosage was prescribed
and examined on 54 patients with “Migraine”, where 31 of them have
had sleep induced by the drug dose.
1. Is there enough evidence to refute the investigator’s claim
at α = 0.01.
2. Re–do part 1 using p–value approach.

• (5 points) Question 4 : Is there a significant difference in achievement
measurements between online and classroom courses?? Two groups
are tested, via measurements on Final exam for STAT 245. The fol-
lowing table gives a summary of results for two groups of students
:
Online Classroom
Sample Size 37 33

• (5 points) Question 5 : A doctor is interested in determining whether
horror movies do change 9 kids attitudes about watching TV. The re-
sults of his questionnaire are shown below, where a higher value shows
a more favorable attitude toward watching TV. Is there enough ev-
idence to support the claim, at α = 0.01, that there was a
change in attitude?

sity from two samples of males :

• (10 points) Question 7 : Osteosarcoma is one of the very malig-
nant types of cancer in which the cancerous tumor occurs in a bone.
Patients are often treated with one of the following four options :
“Surgery”, “Chemotherapy”, “Radiation Therapy”, and “Amputa-
tion”. In a recent study in Saskatchewan, patients with Osteosarcoma
were asked to evaluate their body functional results and possible com-
plications, three months after finishing treatment program. For each
patient, the score was out of 20 (the higher indicates the better).
1. Construct ANOVA table (put the table, fill it, and show all tech-
nical and computational details under the table).
2. At α = 0.01, can one conclude that these four methods of
treating Osteosarcoma differ?
3. Find a 98% confidence interval for the average evaluation estimate
for patients who went with “Surgery”.
4. Find 90% confidence interval for the average evaluation estimate
for patients who went with “Radiation Therapy” versus “Ampu-
tation”.
The following data, is about all patient responses (out of 20) for four
different types of treatment :
T1 = T2 = T3 = T4 =
• Solution :

• (14 points) Question 8 : A recent study on consecutive “Migraine”
in Saskatchewan included 12 migraineurs. The study aimed to in-
vestigate the relationship between Migraine triggers and age. Four
Migraine triggers were selected as : “Food Allergies”, “drinking alco-
hol”, “listening to loud music”, and “Eye Strain”. The study consid-
ered the following age groups : Under 25, 25 ≤ Age < 50, and Above
50. All migraineurs were requested to report numbers of hours needed
to recuperate :
Trigger
Age Food Allergies Drinking Alcohol Loud Music Eye Strain Totals
Above 50 6 17 14 3
25 ≤ Age < 50 7 31 19 1
Under 25 6 28 28 10
Totals
1. Construct ANOVA table (put the table, fill it, and show all tech-
nical and computational details under the table).
2. Do the data provide sufficient evidence to indicate a difference in
the mean recuperation hours for the three age groups? Use α =
0.01.
3. Is there an evidence to indicate a difference in the mean recuper-
ation hours for the four Migraine triggers? Use α = 0.01.
4. Use a 99% confidence interval to estimate the difference in the
mean recuperation hours for “Under 25” versus “Above 50”.

• (13 points) Question 9 : An experiment was conducted to determine
the effects of two different drugs on retarding the growth rate of tumor
size for patients with liver cancer. For each patient, and after 4 months
of taking the drug, tumor size increase (growth) was measured, at a
given dose value, as a percentage of the original size before taking
the drug. All recordings are :
Patient # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
and
Patient # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
1. Find the best fitting line (between x and y) for each drug and
plot it. Plot both lines at one graph.
2. Find the point of intersection of both lines in part 1.
3. For the correlation coefficient between x and y, in drug “B”, is
there significant negative correlation? Use α = 0.01.
4. For drug “B”, construct a 98% CI for b and interpret it.

• (8 points) Question 10 : Do animals distinguish colors?? One ex-
periment is designed to investigate whether cows can distinguish col-
ors by being attracted to different coloured boards that are easy–to–
touch. Observations are taken for n = 180 cows. Do cows have a
preference for one of the different coloured boards? Use α =
0.01 and α = 0.05, then compare.

(A) two–tailed??
(B) right–tailed??
(C) left–tailed??
(D) semi–tailed??
2. (3 points) Suppose x, y, and z, are three measurable variables such
that rxy = 0.23 and rxz = -0.44, then
(A) The relationship between x and y is stronger.
(B) The relationship between x and z is stronger.
(C) The relationship strengths don’t provide useful information, as
long as x is correlated to y and z.
(D) Both relationships are at the same strength level.
3. (3 points) In simple linear regression, if b = 0, then
(A) x determines y.
(B) y determines x.
(C) b can not be zero.
(D) x and y are independent.
