CLEAN AND PREPARE ROOMS FOR INCOMING GUESTS

Good morning to our TESDA representative and Assessor. I’m ___________________ your
st
1 candidate who’s going to demonstrate the CLEAN AND PREPARE ROOMS FOR INCOMING
GUESTS. But before performing, I’ll make it sure that I am properly groomed and hygiene with a
hair tied up, apply light make-up, shoes are clean and I’m in my proper clean and well-ironed room
attendant uniform. Since I’m done preparing for myself. I will now report to my Supervisor to
prioritize my room of assignments. AS I get my assignment report. I will also secure the keys from
my Supervisor. Since I already have now my room of assignment report and keys. I will now
proceed to the housekeeping storage area to get all the necessary housekeeping tools, equipment,
materials and supplies needed in my whole cleaning duration and place it properly in the
housekeeping trolley.

As you can see, this is the housekeeping trolley. At the top of the trolley is where you can
find the room and bathroom supplies just like soap, shampoos, lotions, food items, beverages and
magazine. In this side of the trolley is where you can find the laundry bag for soiled linen and under
it is the toilet caddy that contains variety of cleaning materials and chemicals including disinfectant,
glass cleanser, toilet bowl cleaner, sponges, squeegee and toilet bowl brush. In the other side is the
garbage for garbages. We also have here the variety of housekeeping equipment and tools, just like
the hydro vacuum for cleaning both wet and dry areas, floor polisher for polishing floors, we have
feather duster and warning signage to avoid accidents while the cleaning is on-going. As you can
see, we have three face towel. We also have here the bathrobe. In the second shelves is where we
can find the varieties of linens. We have here the mattress pad, white linens and blanket as well as
the pillow case. At the last shelve is where you can find the duvet and bed cover. Since I’m done
preparing all the housekeeping tools, equipment, materials and supplies in the housekeeping
trolley. I will now proceed to my 1st room of assignment.

Remember that in placing the trolley, place the trolley facing the door to avoid room
crashers and to avoid destruction to incoming guests. When entering the room, remember of the
door signage. Once it is in DND or Do Not Disturb sign never knock and enter the room. Write DND
on the housekeeping report with the room number and proceed to the next room of assignment.

Since my room of assignment is a vacant dirty room. I will have a general cleaning and do
disinfect and sanitize the room. (Note: Knock 3 times, “Housekeeping!) Open the door, and turn on
all the lights and check all the facilities and amenities in the room and once heavy repair is needed.
I will call up the hotel maintenance for them to fix it. Turn off the air conditioning unit and open the
curtains and the window. Gather all the garbage’s in the room as well as in the bathroom and place
all the garbage’s in the garbage bag which is placed in the housekeeping trolley. (Note: Wear a
glove since you will deal with chemicals.) Sanitize and disinfect the garbage bin and replace it with a
new garbage bag and I will return in the bathroom with the toilet caddy in my other hand. Flush the
toilet bowl and disinfect it as well as the bathtub and the lavatory sink and leave it for a couple of
minutes and proceed to bed make up. (Note: Take off the gloves and sanitize your hand before
doing the bed make up.)

In doing the bed make up, first thing to do is to strip all the linens at the center and shake it
for us to know if there are lost and found items hidden under all the linens and then apply the
folding technique of the linens. Check also for stains and damages of linens as well as the
mattress/bed. Place all the soiled linens in the linen bags which is placed in the housekeeping
trolley and get new cleaned linens and start the bed make up.

In doing the traditional bed make up, first is to pull the bed away from the headboard.
Spread the bed pad by unfolding one-by-one. Secure the bed pad to mattress by hooking at the
attached bands. Bed bad will protect the bed from any forms of stains like blood stains. Spread the
1st sheet in a right side using the fisherman’s throw or butterfly throw and tuck the top part of the
sheet and push the bed to the headboard and continue tucking in and miter every corner. When
tucking the sheets in. It is important that you bend your knees and not your back. This is to help
strengthen the knees and at the same time, prevent you from having a slip disc. Spread the 2 nd
sheet in a wrong side and it should be levelled at the top age of the bed. Spread the blanket in a
right side and it should be placed at least six to eight inches away from the top age of the bed.
Blanket will provide the guest with additional comfort, as well as keep or maintain the correct body
thermostat. Spread the 3rd sheet in a right side and it should labelled with the 2 nd sheet. Fold the
three sheets twice and tuck in and miter each corner. Place the pillow and the pillow slip and place
it in the bed and spread the bed cover in order to protect the bed from any forms of dust and dirt.
Complete with towel folding. Since I’m done with the traditional bed make up. I will now proceeds
to duvet bed make up.

In doing the duvet bed make up, first is to pull the bed away from the headboard. Spread the
bed pad by unfolding one-by-one. Secure the bed pad to the mattress by hooking the attached
bands. Spread the 1st sheet in a right side using fisherman’s throw or butterfly throw and tuck the
top part of the sheet and push the to the headboard and continue tucking in and miter every
corner. Spread the duvet jacket on the bed in a wrong side and spread the duet filler on top and
apply the technique. Insert the pillow into the pillow slip. The opening is inserted into the pillow
case. Complete towel folding. Since I’m done doing the duvet bed make up. I will go back to the
bathroom and finish the cleaning. (Note: Wear the gloves for the bathroom cleaning.)

In cleaning the bathroom. I will start from the top to bottom counter clockwise. I will clean
up the ceiling using hydro vacuum. I will use the round brush or the utility brush for the ceiling and
crevice nozzle for the edges. I will make it sure that all the dust and cobwebs are eliminated. Next is
to clean up the wall. In cleaning up the wall. I will make it sure that the wall is water based or not.
For us to be sure, apply a small amount of water at the back of the mirror and once the wall colour
faded, never apply water in cleaning up the wall. Since we have a tiled wall. I will use a dry cloth in
cleaning and mix water with disinfectant to use with the cloth for cleaning the wall. Also, clean
every part of the wall just like the mirror, glass door, glass holder, shower holder, tissue holder,
shower holder, the shower, soap holder and faucets. Next is to clean up the bathtub from inner to
outer cleaning and dry it after. Clean the toilet bowl from inner to other and dry it and last will be
the cleaning of lavatory sink from inner to outer cleaning and dry it as well. Clean the floor using
the tornado mop with a mixture of water and disinfectant. Mop the door from furthest to the main
door and dry the floor after. I will return the toilet caddy and tornado mop in the housekeeping
trolley and replenish all the bathroom supplies. (Note: Leave in the room the hydro vacuum,
freshener and clean towel for the door knob.) Since I’m done replenishing all the bathroom
supplies. I will take a last look for some missing items that I haven’t replenish. Since everything is
clean and well organized in the bathroom. I will spray an air freshener, sanitize the door knob back
and front, turn off the light and close the door. Since I’m done cleaning the bathroom. I will now
clean up the room.

In cleaning the room, I will clean up the room from top to bottom counter clockwise. I will
clean up the ceiling using hydro vacuum. I will make it sure that the ceiling is clean and free from
any dust and cobwebs. Next is to clean up the wall as well as the furniture. I will use a furniture for
bigger furnitures or feather duster and dry cloth. Next to clean is the floor using floor polisher to
polish the floor and hydro vacuum to eliminate the dust and dirt on the floor. I will return all the
housekeeping tools and equipments on the housekeeping trolley and replenish all the room
supplies. (Note: Leave the freshener and clean cloth in the room.) I will close the curtains and
window and turn on the air conditioning unit on a fan mode. Take a last look in the room for some
missing items that I haven’t replenish. Since everything is clean and well organized in the room. I
will spray an air freshener, sanitize the door knob back and front, turn off the light and close the
door. Since I’m done cleaning the room. I will now return the housekeeping trolley into the
housekeeping storage area. Deliver the soiled item in the laundry department. Lost and Found
items will be reported in the Lost and Found Department. Before returning all the housekeeping
tools, equipment and materials. I’ll make it sure that all of them are clean and well sanitize in
accordance with the manufacturers’ manuals instruction to avoid damages to the items and place it
properly in the housekeeping storage area. Cleaning chemicals are properly labelled and place
properly with the proper temperature and storage area. Housekeeping trolley needs to be clean
and properly placed as well.
