opportunity to meet so many great individuals and professionals who have led me through this time of
internship.

I express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Ahmed Tanwar, Marketing and Business Development head, for

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

I was hired as a business development executive intern in an IT and software development company called
The Tech Cubes. This company other businesses grow their online presence with the help of different means
of digital marketing that includes SEO, social media marketing, SEM, ruining ad campaigns, generating
leads etc.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I had to do the internship by working from home. My work here as a BD
executive was to generate as much leads as possible bye online means that is cold calling, through social
media, through ads, et cetera.

I was working under Mr Ahmed Tanwar who is the marketing and business development head of the
company and one of the four shareholders of the company. Every weekend we used to you have a team
meeting and discuss about everything that we did in the week and the strategies about how to work on
ourselves and how to generate leads more effectively and efficiently and what to do in the coming time.

Firstly, we were relying more on the digital method that a is cold calling emailing and LinkedIn and social
media but during the end of the internship we came up with the idea of making advertisement videos
highlighting main services that the company provides. Because of these ads the reach of the company
increased very quickly and combining the total views these videos we reached thousands of people in a few
days. Although these ads were shot during the end of the internship there are high chances that leads were
converted after releasing the ads.

Apart from that I had different responsibilities which included increasing network with the help of LinkedIn
and also generating potential leads by data collection.

I got the knowledge about digital marketing how the company policies work and how the company can
improve itself as it is a start-up.

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT

This report has been made as the course requirement of Internship in MBA course.

I did my summer internship in The Tech Cubes (TTC) from the month of April till the month of July.

The Tech Cubes is an India (Pune) based B2B software and IT solutions company which helps in the online
growth of businesses. It was founded in partnership in the year 2019.

Because of the Pandemic caused due to Covid-19, my internship was fully a ‘work from home’ internship. I
was an intern in the Sales & Marketing team of the company and the role under it allotted to me was of
‘business development executive’.

As a business development executive, I was accountable for the research and pursuing new business leads
for the growth of the business. My task included active team management which demanded excellent
organisational skills.

It is expected for a business development executive to focus on innovative business ideas and presentations
that are a believable portrayal of the products/services of an organisation.

Apart from that, a Business Development Executive's job is to support the sales and growth efforts of
companies by contributing to the acquisition of new clients. He/she should be able to have proposals to
attract new buyers and sustain the marketplace and competitor operations updated by top level management.

In this report, I have discussed and illuminated my job responsibilities as a Business Development
Executive.

5
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

Business development executives help businesses create strategic relationships and raise sales and reach with
other businesses. Depending on the sector and company, the purpose and objectives of business development
executives can differ. Almost all executives lead programmes that touch on strategic development,
marketing and sales.

One of the most significant roles of a company irrespective of its task is its branding, that is getting it
recognised by other businesses and people. Branding gives an identity to a product or a service which helps
in the identification of the company for the public.

As a business development executive my work was to reach the potential customers through different
medium and create brand awareness of The Tech Cubes. Being a star-up The Tech Cubes was not a popular
company or brand in the customers’ minds, so it needed branding for the business and lead generation.
Being a start-up one of the main purposes of the firm was also to create its name and expand its value in the
market. The tasks to be done were not difficult. Lead generation was not that difficult, but the main difficulty
was converting those leads. The purpose as a BDE was to generate and convert leads as much as I could by
using different means.

Objectives
i. To illustrate the activities that a BDE is supposed to do and the processes involved in it.
ii. To help the firm attain its goals.
iii. To apply/implement the concepts and theories related to business in decision-making in the real world.
iv. To improve business skills, i.e. communication, interpersonal relationship in organisation, teamwork,
modern marketing, et cetera.
v. To meet professionals and understand entrepreneurial skills.
vi. To get ideas about the corporate world.
vii. To increase professional relationships and network (‘network is net worth’).

FUNCTIONAL OVEIEW (MAKETING)

As an IT and digital marketing start-up, it is significant for TTC to be paramount in their marketing activities
in its business venture to recognise, understand and obtain new prospective markets. The organisation has
marketed its promotional activities since its inception, and all the more so, since Covid-19, where all
businesses have embraced the digital medium on the way forward.

The marketing department is headed by Mr. Ahmed Tanwar and the department is further divided into four
main branches: business growth, SEO, social media management and market management online. He looks
after the executive members of 4-5 individuals working for each team. As noted, the marketing department
of Tech Cubes has effectively and efficiently designed, evaluated and produced different social media
content to inculcate its presence and generate leads on top digital channels. Via poster presentation, ad
campaigns, and other graphic-rich media, the organisation adopted an artistic style of marketing. In addition
to the above, frequent and daily blogs and other e-content for optimal customer retention have been regularly
released in order to retain the customers.

By optimising its own website through SEO and other return-oriented keyword analytics, the company has
also leveraged its potential. For both the business to advertise and to be prominent on search engine results,
this acted as a point of mutual benefit and also as a platform for prospects to grasp the working pedagogy of
TTC.

14
CHAPTER II
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

Even an established company experience some challenges or face problems in its course, whether it is a
product or be it service. These kinds of problems help understand the current state of the organisation or the
company and work on it accordingly for the organisational success and work on generating profits.

Similarly, working as a BD executive in The Tech Cubes (TTC) the problems that came up were –

i. Lack of awareness in customers

One of the main problems that the company and I myself as a BD executive faced was that there were
very few customers or rather businesses that knew about the company. The company being a start-up
was a challenge itself. Apart from that, in general there are businesses which still follow the traditional
methods of doing business, so the gap was that these customers had a little fair idea about the digital or
modern ways of businesses which are way more efficient than the traditional one.

ii. Problems in lead conversion

As stated above, many businesses follow the traditional ways of business, so many customers/businesses
do not feel like taking the service of the companies under consideration. Many businesses had a gist of
the requirement of online presence but wouldn’t consider listening to the companies’ employees. Also,
some companies that had an idea about the services were already in contract with other well-established
companies.
On the other hand, the current year (2020) COVID-19 and the pandemic played a really major problem
in the lead conversion. This was because of the nationwide lockdown, there were already losses that
many companies were dealing with so they weren’t ready to invest in the company’s services as a result
of more loss.

iii. Changes in business requirements

One problem that the company and myself faced was the changing decisions by the potential customers.
It means that once the customers were ready to do business and the proposals were ready for them, they
would backout of the deal or we wouldn’t hear back from them.

iv. Time management

The company was not only working on Indian clients but also international clients were there. The
problem that I faced here was managing the time. This was because of the different time-zones and we
had to manage working through the day and be available for the international clients at different times
depending on the zones.

16
v. Lack of training
As everything was through online mode and work from home resulting in a slight communication gap,
my team didn’t get enough training for the work we were supposed to do. We were just told ‘what’ to do,
but the problem we faced was that ‘how’ to do that work.

17
SCOPE OF STUDY

The scope was pertained to understand the online marketing digital marketing social media marketing, et
cetera. Today's world is more bent towards digital era so it is important for or both the clients and the
company to be updated with the latest digital trends. The company was internationally in link with other
companies or businesses via LinkedIn and Facebook and also emails.

My interest as a business development executive was to understand marketing in a digital world and also
understand how it helps businesses grow.

Due to pandemic my internship was limited only to work from home and online mode.

18
METHODOLOGY ADOPTED

There were tasks that we performed for the development of business of the company which included many
activities like social media marketing, email marketing, LinkedIn marketing, ad campaigns, etc.

The methods we adopted were modern methods like

i. Lead Generation & Data collection

The main task as an intern that I was supposed t\o do was to generate the leads. For that I was supposed
to collect data of other businesses that the company would help.
The data that was collected was both primary and secondary.
Primary data
The data that I collected for the company was through internet. There were a lot of sectors that I targeted
including education sector, hotel and restaurant industry, fitness centres and gyms, etc. I collected this
data of other countries and not India.
Secondary data
The secondary data as in the data that was already available. My team and myself were given a database
which included companies from both Indian and foreign countries, also of different sectors.

ii. Cold calling

After having all the data, if the contact number of the potential customers was available, then we’d
directly call them on their number in order to generate leads. The cold calling method, although being a
traditional method, but still in a country like India people feel more connected when they talk to a
someone on a personal level rather talking through text and digital medium. This method was used only
in the case of Indian customers.
Later the company hired BPO professionals for foreign leads.

iii. Email marketing

Although there were not contact numbers from all the customers but there were email IDs of every
customer. So, we set up a template and a format to be sent to each and every customer through email in
which we mention about all the services that the company provides and all the other companies that the
Tech cubes has worked for. I would send about 15 to 20 emails per day so that the mail received by them
would not go into spam.
iv. Social Media marketing
Due to the pandemic social media played very important role whether it is for lead generation or it is for
promotion of TTC. There was a use of different means of social media that is Facebook, WhatsApp

19
Instagram, LinkedIn and each of these played a significant role in the lead generation and increase in
reach.
Facebook
Through Facebook I joined all the different types of groups for both National and international
businesses. In these groups there were a huge amount of people or members were there and many of
them were mostly business owners for people who were at managing level in their company or
businesses. This people or rather potential customers used to post on the groups seeking any kind of help
they could get. This helped us analyse whether these people need any help which the Tech cubes could
do and accordingly we would reach to them.
Apart from that are used to promote TTC on Facebook by sharing posts and stories on my timeline or
stories.
Instagram
There was a not a lot to promote on Instagram, like Facebook on Instagram too I used to share the posts
that TTC shared as my stories.
Through Instagram I used to target the local businesses which could become the potential leads by direct
messaging them with the similar format as I used in emailing.
WhatsApp
In case of WhatsApp I tried connecting with the people I already know and was in contact with. There
was a bit of a separate format of a message to send them. That message included all the services that we
provided and all the companies and websites that TTC has worked for.
LinkedIn
LinkedIn is like Facebook but for corporate. What I did in LinkedIn was similar to Facebook. Here too I
joined different groups like I did in Facebook and posted on the group’s timeline regarding TTC.
Also, I was working on increasing the reach of TTC by connecting with different business owners and
people at Higher management level positions of a company and sending them a template message while
connecting. The template message and the format are as follows

20
Figure 3: Message note format sent while connecting

v. Ad campaign
We came up with short advertisement videos to connect with the customers on a personal level so that
they can relate their business conditions with the services The Tech Cubes provides and could possibly
help them in the development of their businesses. In total we came up with three ad videos and in all
three of them we highlighted are different services that is website development and development logo
design and so on. We promoted these three ads through social media and YouTube these ads also helped
in lead generation.
We introduced a mascot for the company, known as Dhanda-man. In the ads we tried connecting with
the audience through humour and also highlighting the importance of the company’s services.

Any kind of work that I did for the company was not going unchecked. There were meetings with our
supervisor in every three days or at most every one week where we used to discuss about what we did in the
previous week and what will be the strategy for the coming week and how to improve on the shortcomings
from the previous week.

ANALYSIS

By working in TTC I analysed a few things.

Being a start-up, the Tech cubes is not known to the potential customers and the public as compared to its
competitors.

Many business owners tend to follow the traditional way much more than the modern way of doing business
and they do not realise that the modern way or the digital way is much better than what traditional way used
to be.

The pandemic and the lockdown played a significant role in people's lives, and I observed that because of
this almost every kinds of businesses were facing some sort of losses, and after hearing about TTC and its
services, even though it was to help their businesses, they were not willing to invest in the company for their
benefit.

If we look at it from another perspective, the pandemic was actually the best time for the businesses to grow
their online presence and grow digitally. There are some statistics to prove it, during the course of lockdown
in India more than 70% to 75% of the public was more active online and most of it was on the social media.
From this I came to an understanding that, as people were spending more time online because of lockdown
and staying at home this could help the businesses and the business owners in the growth of their business on
an extreme level with proper help and channels as there was a humongous amount of growth in the number
of people being online. This would have helped in the increase of the traffic for the businesses and their
websites.

The rates or the prices that the company used to provide to the potential customers was much more than their
expectations. Depending on different services by the company the prices varied, but they exceeded the
customer's expectation or the budget. As a result of which many customers backed out of the deal. This led
to the wastage of time of both the company and the customers because for each customer the company has to
make the proposals accordingly. Even if the people or the customers are ready to increase their online
presence and make a name of the brand online means they I want it to be a quality product or a service but at
the same time they I want it to be for a very less price.

There are also people who you have a negligible idea about the online presence as ine how online presence
could help their businesses grow.

23
Because of the pandemic and work from situation there were constraints for me as an intern and also for the
company. Because of this, there were some shortcomings during the training and there was not a lot of
contact between the team and the supervisor as it should be each day.

For Start-ups, such as this company there is a lot of work that need to be put to make it recognisable and the
increase in its reach into people's or audience's minds.

When it came to cost, the company's aim was to target big businesses which could afford their pricing
strategies and would be willing to invest for the same.

24
FINDINGS & INTERPRETETIONS

Most of the potential leads that we came across were looking for with a less price that they could afford
easily as a result of which many of these leads backed out.

Although my team and I did numerous methods in order to generate leads and create awareness or rather
brand awareness about the company, it did not pan out as expected.

The level of increase in the reach that the team achieved by cold calling messaging emailing social media
promotion was not much as compared to what we achieved through ad campaign.

The three advertisements that we did reached to the audience in a way we couldn't achieve by doing the
work we were doing in the previous weeks.

These ads were put on social media and YouTube. Although the response received through YouTube was
not satisfactory but it spread through social media that is Facebook and Instagram a lot.

We reached to around 25 thousand to 30 thousand viewers combined through social media. This led to you
are good number of lead generation as compared to earlier. People could connect with these ads easily as it
was not just a regular ad but an ad with some humour in it which the people found funny.

With this I understood that the people find the picture representation or video representation more appealing
as compared to they hear through calls or what they read through the emails and messages, etc.

CHAPTER 4
RECOMMENDATIONS

The company should work on the pricing strategies of the services they provide. Currently when there are
customers trying to get one of the services because of high prices the customers do not look forward to to
pay for any of the services.

The price that should be pocket friendly for all the customers this would help a lot in increasing reach and
generating leads. As there are a lot of competitors and other companies which provide the same service that
the potential customers want in much less price.

Nowadays the audience has shifted towards watching videos online which means increase in the use of
YouTube. So the company should try to focus on getting people aware about themselves, also in general
about out to help businesses grow. This could be done by releasing videos on YouTube explaining from the
basic knowledge to the technical knowledge about everything the company provides services for. This could
help the company a lot in lead generation, increasing reach and creating more and more brand awareness.

The firm should follow up with the potential clients more frequently.”
