TENNISAN NG LAHI
ORIGIN OF THE SPORT
This sport is invented by a group of three engineering students from National
University named Dominique Villar, Carl Justine Torres, and Earl Cassey Manaog. Tennis
and Ubusan ng Lahi were their inspiration upon creating the sport. They thought that Tennis
alone was a good sport, they came up with the idea to combine it with their local game,
Ubusan ng Lahi, to make it more fun and challenging. The sport was named “Tennisan ng
Lahi”.

GOAL OF THE SPORT

This sport is a collaboration of Tennis and Ubusan ng Lahi, it aims to encourage the
players to experience the locality of the sport since it is famous in the Philippines. The
inventors were hoping to influence people around the world to engage in this sport as it is fun
and challenging at the same time. The goal of each teams was to be the first to accumulate
two pints or win two sets out of three sets.

MECHANICS OF THE SPORT

This is a team sport that is played by two teams with of 5 members each. Tenissan ng
Lahi is composed of three sets with five rounds each. In every round, only one player will
play for their team. Unlike in Tennis wherein players are allowed to hit the ball with different
strokes, only forehand stroke is allowed in this sport. See the figure shown below.

Figure 1. Forehand stroke

Upon playing, if the player missed or dropped the ball, the player will be called or
pronounced “Dead” just like in Ubusan ng Lahi. The player will be replaced by an “Alive”
player from their team, they are free to choose who will play for the next round. For the
winning team, it is for them to decide whether they will replace their player or not. The team
with more “Alive” players will be the winner for each set. In every set, the losing team will
lose 10 ft from the starting point of their side of the court and have a remaining of 30ft to play
with. Every player will be able to play again in the next set. The first team to accumulate two
points is the winner.

EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES:

The inventors of this game were very innovative, they were just given a set of
materials and they were able to come up with an idea. The inventors intended to make the
materials basic so that if the people in their community can play it, they will be allowed to
use alternative to the sport as long as the rules and the mechanics will still be adapted.

Equipment
Tennis racket (one per team) will be used to hit the ball to the other side of the court.
Whiffle ball will serve as their tennis ball.
Strings will serve as their nets; it will be installed to the posts at each end of the center
of the court.
Tape will serve as the markers to the area of the court that the players can cross.
When the team lost at the end of the set, their space will decrease, and another set of
markers will be added to clearly see the space available for the. Aside from that,
markers will face upwards so that when the players cross the line, the tape will stick
to their shoes and they will not be able to make reasons about it.

Facility
Playing Area

The playing court required an 80ft x 28ft.

The net was located in the middle of the court.
This game is an outdoor sport only because it needs a much bigger space.
Each team have 40ft x 28ft of playing area.
There are 4 lines which is 10ft by 28ft each.
