Lyric Sheet

2020 | Page 1

A neat and complete lyric sheet can make all the

difference when pitching to labels and/or sync, and

set you apart from the crowd. Here’s a breakdown of

one of the ways you can create a lyric sheet and the

requirements you shouldn’t forget.

The title of the song should be centered, in 18 point normal font,

and bold. Don’t use any fancy fonts or italics.

List the writer(s) under the title in parenthesis, preferably in 12

point font and centered.

The rest of the lyric sheet should be in 12 point font on the left
margin.

If you have an intro, prior to the verse, specify that. If you have a
musical intro there is no need to provide that information.

Good rule of thumb, never put the musical chords on the lyric
sheet.

You don’t need to signify the verse – this should be understood.

Only signify the lyric (intro), (chorus), or (bridge) – all in parenthesis.

When the lyric sheet is complete place your contact information

below in the left margin and provide a copyright date.

“Love is Everything”
(John White)
(Laura Silver)
(Carry Gold)

This is where you would

Write out the lyrics for your first verse
However long they may be
And break up the lines by each phrase
Don’t include any music notes or chords

[Chorus]
Here you would write out your chorus
Exactly how it should be
Because you’ll only have to do this once
So make sure it’s right

This is where you would

Write our the lyrics for your second verse
However long they may be
Don’t forget to not indicate that its a verse
Because it’s already understood

[Bridge]

[Repeat Chorus]

[Repeat Chorus]
