leadership of a religious superior.
 Composed of laity and clergy who
take solemn vows.
 Comprised of four branches such as
monastic orders, mendicant orders,
canons regulars, and clerks regulars
which exist in many of the world’s
religion.
 Variety of men and women who have
chosen to convey their Christian
commitment by living in the religious
community and taking life – long or
simple vows.
 Governed according to their institutions
which are usually approved by a Pope or
a local bishop or those who are in-
charged in their Diocese.
 Are those who offer a range of pastoral,
social welfare, educational, aged care,
and health services for people in our
community.

which is to fulfill the mission of
evangelization.

 in the nature of their vows. Religious

orders allow the members to take
solemn vows. Whereas religious
congregation can take simple vows.
 In their plan and execution in fulfilling
their mission or social service.
 By means of their origin or history.

B. DIRECTIONS: Answer the following questions comprehensively.

1. What do you think are the reasons for the proliferation of religious congregations?
- I believe the proliferation of religious congregations indicate an advantage or a good sign to every
missionary and even for the spiritual formation of oneself. Based on my observation and experience, our
generation today were mostly out of control, but I assume that religious formations still establishes a great
relevance in any period. With this, I have come up with these reasons on the proliferation of religious
congregation such as the rapid evangelization, genuine thirst for spiritual nourishment, and economic
recessions. Initially, one of the reasons to consider is the rapid evangelization because as we can
observe, the established religious congregations and religious orders were trying to connect with the
people through what is popular--- such as the social media. This is actually a great thing because our
fellow Christian missionaries are fully aware in evangelizing in accordance with the relevant medium in our
generation. By this, I think this urges religious congregations to expand their spiritual community because
they already attain an innovative way to evangelize. Second, if you are an avid social media user, you
knew that there are users who are lacking spiritual faith. With this, they can be generally identified as
those who thirst for spiritual nourishment. These are the people who already acknowledge their faith in
religion, but their spiritual formation is still frail. By means of this, I assume that other established religious
congregations gave solution to this dilemma through their proliferation. They used this as a reason to
spread and expand their mission. Lastly, for me this is the least reason but, in some instances, economic
recession which means a decline in economic activity can be a part of a consideration. This means that a
lot of people encounters unemployment, falling average of income and many other more. Some people
may not believe that if we encounter poverty, we turn to God, but this is quite accurate. This is the moment
where God is challenging us--- it is when we have nothing in life. But despite of having nothing, God wants
us to realize that we have Him through the ups and downs of our lives. With this situation, this paved a
way to the religious congregations to encourage and seek for expansion among their community.
Nevertheless, I believe to attain spiritual nourishment is more than the worth of money that anyone can
get for living.
2. How do religious congregations engage in corporal and spiritual works of mercy?
- Religious congregations has various ways in engaging or putting into action the corporal and spiritual
works of mercy. Commonly, they conduct a feeding program or any other programs which can give the
basic needs of those in need. Aside from that, their convent and seminary is also offering shelter to the
marginalized and perform social work of evangelization to various community which needs reformation.
One of the religious congregations which I know that engage in corporal and spiritual works of mercy is
the Daughters of Charity. Daughters of Charity are called to serve Jesus Christ in the person of those who
are poor and marginalized, with a spirit of humility, simplicity, and charity. Motivated by the love of Christ
and sustained by a deep prayer life, they live together in community, supporting one another in their
common mission of service, service which addresses the person in all human and spiritual dimensions.
They live and work in places of social priority: hospitals, homes for troubled children, schools, day centers
for the homeless, those with dependencies or handicapping conditions.
