Chapter 1. Understanding Feng Shui

The Ba Gua: Your Map to Personal Fulfillment

The Feng Shui map, otherwise known as the ba gua, indicates which areas of
your life are governed by particular areas of your living or work space.

The map is divided into nine areas, otherwise known as gua. These areas
include:

Career

This area is not only concerned with the job you hold; it represents the reason
you were put on this earth. Are you passionate about your work? Does it fulfill
you spiritually, as well as materially? Do you think it's too late to change
industries? Have you had a hard time finding work? Are you fulfilling your
potential? The answer to all of these questions rests in the Career Gua.

Wisdom

This portion of your living space deals with how you acquire and use
knowledge. Do you keep making the same mistakes over and over again? Are
your opinions respected? Do people look to you for advice? Are you able to
put your experience to good use? Is it easy for you to spend time alone, just
thinking? If these questions speak to issues in your life, pay special attention
to the Wisdom Gua.
Family

Family issues are associated with this section of the home or office. Do enjoy
healthy relationships with your relatives? Are events from your past holding
you back in some way? Have you been forced to assume a role within your
family that makes you unhappy? Do you feel like you can depend on relatives
during times of trial? Such questions are directly related to the Family Gua..

Self-Empowerment

This corner of a space deals with your ability to meet your goals and
aspirations, as well as your ability to generate wealth. Are you tuned into your
heart's desire? Do you make time for the activities you love? Do people treat
you with respect? Are you able to turn difficult situations to your advantage? Is
it easy or difficult for you to earn money? Do you enjoy the money you make,
or is it a source of anxiety? Do finances slip through your fingers? These
questions deal specifically with the Self-Empowerment Gua.

Fame

Fame and recognition are associated with this area of any given space. Are
you getting credit for what you do best? Do you possess hidden talents that
you'd like to bring before the public? Are you frequently passed over for
promotions? Does your boss or spouse take you for granted? Is it easy for
you to express your feelings to outsiders? Are you able to distinguish yourself
from others, or do you feel more comfortable blending in with the crowd? The
answer to these questions can be found in the Fame area of your home.

Relationships

This corner is associated with relationships, romantic and otherwise. If you're

single, do you enjoy an active social life? Do you yearn for a relationship, but
can't seem to find the right person? Would you rather play the field than settle
down? If you're attached, are you happy with your partnership? Does your
mate make you feel isolated or alienated? Is it hard for you to make yourself
vulnerable to your partner? Has it been difficult for you to end a past
relationship? Look to the Relationships area of your home for the answer to
these questions.

Creativity and Children

Imagination, creativity, and children are linked to this area of any given space.
Are you filled with a sense of joy and wonder about life? Does the future fill
you with dread or excitement? Do you have a clear idea of what legacy you'd
like to leave to the world? Do you have children? Have you had problems
conceiving a child? Do you have lots of leisure time? If so, how to you spend
it? The Creative Offspring Gua contains the answer to all these questions.

Helpful People
This corner of any given space relates to both visible and invisible means of
support. Do you have a reliable circle of friends? Are you constantly
overburdened? Is it hard for you to get the assistance you need? Do you feel
as though the weight of the world is on your shoulders? Is it easy for you to
both give and receive? Are your friends supportive of your hopes and
dreams? These questions are concerned with the Helpful People Gua.

Health

Physical, spiritual, and emotional health is governed by the center of any

space. Do you feel strong and energetic throughout most of the day? Are you
easily stressed? Do the smallest upsets make you feel overwhelmed? Are you
suffering from chronic pain or recurrent flare-ups? Is exercise part of your
daily routine? Are you nourishing your body with healthy foods? All of these
questions are directly related to the Health Gua.

Using the Ba Gua

Applying the ba gua to any given space is easy. You can use the ba gua to
analyze an entire building, an apartment, a floor, a room or even the surface
of your desk. Most people want to analyze their home or office. If that's the
case for you, break down the mapping of your living or work space in several
different stages. The first thing you have to do is draw a floor plan of the
building in question. (If you live in an apartment, treat your apartment like it is
your "building" and substitute apartment for building as you read through your
report. The same is true of an office that is located within a larger structure.)
For the sake of Feng Shui, always orient yourself so that you are facing the
main entrance of the building, as if you were about to enter the space. The
main entrance is considered the "official" entrance of a particular building. If
you live in a house but enter mostly through the back door, your front door is
still considered the main entrance. If, on the other hand, you live in an
apartment building, your main entrance should be considered the door to your
personal unit.

When you've made a complete sketch of the building, line up the main
entrance along the lower edge of the ba gua - that is to say, the side of the ba
gua that contains the Wisdom, Career, and Helpful People Guas. Please note
that the main entrance of a building can only exist in one of these three guas.
For instance, if the main entrance is in the center of the building, then you will
enter through the Career Gua. If the entrance is on the right side of the
building, then you will enter through the Helpful People Gua. If the entrance is
on the left side of the building, then you will enter through the Wisdom Gua.

Here's where the fun begins. Once you've determined where the main
entrance to a building/apartment/office falls, make a sketch of that entire floor.
This will be the most important sketch of the area you are analyzing, as it will
determine where all the other gua in the building fall. When practicing Feng
Shui, you should always concentrate on the main floor of a building, as it
radiates energy to all other areas of the space.
After you've finished mapping out the main floor, you should then make
diagrams of all the other floors in the building you are analyzing, like the
second floor, basement, and attic. Line up the ba gua on these secondary
floors so that it matches the layout of the main floor. For instance, the Career
Gua of your second floor should lie directly above the Career Gua of your first
floor. The Relationship Gua of your basement should lie directly below the
Relationship Gua of your first floor. In other words, the layout of your main
floor determines how the ba gua should be laid out on every other floor of the
building you are analyzing. Don't worry if a staircase or elevator causes you to
enter the secondary floors through an area that doesn't line up with the main
entrance of the building. The main entrance of the central floor determines
how the ba gua will be laid out on all other floors. That's why you should
always do a floor plan for the central floor first.

Once you've mapped out each floor of the building you want to analyze, you
can do sketches for each room inside. You should orient the ba gua for an
individual room so that the door falls in the Wisdom, Helpful People, or Career
Gua. If a room has two entrances, like a dining room or kitchen, you consider
the main door the one you use most often.

If all this seems a little daunting at first, take comfort in the fact that throwing
the ba gua takes practice. If you feel overwhelmed with making sketches and
trying to figure out where each gua falls in a particular space, take a break.
Remember, Feng Shui is a journey of self-discovery. It's not meant to upset or
confound you. If you're totally confused, let your instinct take over.
Remember, you know your home and office better than anybody else. By
trusting your intuition, you'll be able to tap into the power of Feng Shui very
effectively.

Oddly-shaped Spaces

Of course, not every space is a perfect rectangle. In fact, most spaces have
strange nooks and crannies that won't fit perfectly within the ba gua grid. As
you see which portions of a space correspond to each gua, make a note of
any missing areas or projections that throw the space off-balance. These
spots can be enhanced or toned down to bring about dramatic changes in
your life, so they merit special attention.

If the space that you're trying to read isn't a perfect rectangle (and chances
are, it's not), there's no reason to panic. Feng Shui has a solution for every
situation. Missing areas are a common challenge for Feng Shui practioner. An
area of the home is considered "missing" if the empty space is less than 30%
of the entire area of the home. Below are some illustrations of different kinds
of missing areas.
Missing areas pose an exciting opportunity for Feng Shui practitioners. If left
untreated, the missing area will be a drain on that particular area of the client's
life. Missing areas can exist in an entire building, a single floor, or an
individual room. For instance, if a chunk of your house is missing from the
Self-empowerment Gua, it may be difficult for you to earn the money you
need to finance your dreams. If, on the other hand, the missing area falls in
your Relationship Gua of your bedroom, you may have a hard time sustaining
a happy love affair. The good news is that it's very easy to symbolically "fill in"
missing areas with the help of Feng Shui.

If you have outdoor access to the missing area of your home, you can fill in
that space with an object that is appropriate to that missing gua. Here are
some tips for filling in the missing areas of each particular gua:

Missing Career Gua

A structure that holds water, like a fountain, birdbath, or fish pond. Make sure
that the container is filled with fresh water, or your career could stagnate!
Hanging plants like willow trees or trailing ivy also represent water.

Missing Knowledge Gua

A solid, stable object, like a statue, stone, or square terra-cotta pot holding a
sturdy plant.

Missing Family Gua

A tall, vertical structure, like a flagpole, garden gate, or tree with upright
branches.

Missing Self-Empowerment Gua

A beautiful, precious yard feature, like a gazebo, trellis, or rare, flowering

plant. If you can't put anything that large here, you can always bury four shiny
coins in this corner. So long as you know they are there, the coins will bring
prosperity into your life. They don't have to be visible!
Missing Fame Gua

Garden lights, yard lanterns, or tiki torches. Shrubs with pointed leaves or red
flowers or berries also work nicely in this Gua.

Missing Relationship Gua

A comfortable bench for two, a pair of trees, or a lawn swing would work
beautifully here. If you can't put anything too conspicuous in this area, you can
always bury two rings in this spot (they don't have to be expensive). As long
as you know they are there, the rings will enhance and support your love life.

Missing Creativity Gua

A sandbox, swing set, or basketball hoop are good items to place here. If you
can't do anything too elaborate, hang something that gives you joy here, like a
cheerful-sounding wind chime or cut glass prism.

Missing Helpful People Gua

Objects that symbolize compassion, like a bird feeder or comfortable lawn

furniture work well here. If you can't put anything very noticeable here, you
can always plant six seeds or acorns in this spot. Don't worry;, your plant
doesn't have to come to fruition. Making the gesture should be enough to
bring helpful people into your life.

Missing Health Gua

Only entire buildings can have a missing Health Gua; it's impossible to have a
single room that has no center. It's actually of tremendous benefit to have
home or office building that is missing its Health Gua! Many Mediterranean-
style homes feature an open courtyard in the center. Feel free to put plants
and patio furniture in this space, but try to keep more than half the area clear
to encourage free movement here. Living or working in such a building is
almost sure to support your health and reduce stress.

If, on the other hand, you don't have access to the area that is missing from
home (for instance, if you live in an apartment building), you can use indoor
cures to do the work. Place a plant, crystal, or mirror at the corner that is
jutting into your living space. The energy of any of these objects should fill in
the missing areas of your home quite nicely.

Of course, not all irregular shapes mean that a home has missing areas. If a
portion of your home takes up less than half the area from which it protrudes,
it is considered an enhancement. An enhancement can exist in an entire
building, a single floor, or an individual room. Depending on where the
enhancement falls, you should experience extraordinarily good fortune in
those particular areas of life. Below are some illustrations of space
enhancements:
Elementary, My Dear Watson

According to Feng Shui, the world is comprised of five elements. Proper use
of the five elements can balance a space so that it meets the needs of its
inhabitants. For instance, you might need a bedroom that helps you to relax,
or you may prefer a boudoir that heats up your love life. Either one of these
needs can be met with the proper use of the five elements. Here's a brief
rundown of the elements that can help you tone down or pump up the energy
in any space:

Fire

Fire energy is active and pulsating, and is represented by the color red,
zigzag lines, and triangle shapes. Animals and items made of fur or bone also
represent the fire element. Add fire to areas where you'd like to be noticed, or
where you want excitement. It's also good to use fire when you want to begin
a project or spur ideas. Sparing amounts of fire work best; too much of this
element can cause a person to burn out fast. If you're too stressed out, you
may want to tone down the fire elements in your home.

Wood

Wood represents physical, emotional, and spiritual growth; its energy is rising.
The wood element is represented by the color green, straight lines, and
rectangle shapes. Objects made of wood, cardboard, and paper also
symbolize the wood element. Add wood to areas where you'd like to be more
adventurous. Tone down wood features in your home if you have a hard time
finishing projects or it's difficult to relax.

Water
Water energy is calm and reflective, and is symbolized by the colors black
and blue, wavy lines, and amorphous shapes. (A kidney-shaped swimming
pool is a good representation of the water element.) Objects made of glass
reflect this element. Add water to areas where you desire peace and
tranquility. If you're too passive or yielding, you may want to reduce the
amount of water elements in your work or living space.

Metal

Metal represents precision and discernment; its energy is contracting. The

metal element is represented by the colors white, gray, copper, silver, and
gold. Metal is also symbolized by round shapes and curved lines. Metallic
objects represent this element, including mirrors. If you have difficulty focusing
or making decisions, metal is the perfect element to introduce to your
environment. If you're too harsh or judgmental, it's a good idea to reduce the
amount of metal elements in your environment.

Earth

Earth energy is grounded and secure; its energy is stabilizing. Its energy is
expressed through the colors brown and yellow. Earth is also symbolized by
square shapes and short lines. Items made of clay, brick, and cement
represent this element. Add earth when your environment seems cold or
impersonal. If you are depressed or have a hard time getting motivated,
reduce the amount of earth in your living or work space.

A Cure for What Ails You

The goal in Feng Shui is to achieve an even flow of energy throughout a

space. Most spaces are far from ideal; they contain obtrusive walls, cramped
spaces, and dark corners. Drawing energy into these trouble spots is easy. All
it takes is an application of one the following "cures":

Shiny Objects

Shiny objects activate energy by generating or reflecting light. These objects

include lamps, candles, mirrors, prisms, and metal objects. Place shiny
objects in any space that seems drab, depressing, or plain. If a room is
especially dim, you can place a mirror behind a powerful lamp to bring more
uplifting energy into the space. Do not put shiny objects in a room where lots
of frenetic energy takes place, or you will burn out very easily.

Sound

Sound is an effective cure for spaces that feel lonely or desolate. Effective
sound cures include music, bells, wind chimes, and ticking clocks. Chime
clocks are particularly helpful in creating positive energy at regular intervals. If
your home is plagued with loud traffic, a white noise machine can prevent
your sleep from being disturbed. If you do choose to implement a sound cure,
make sure that its tone is pleasing to your ear. Replacing an annoying buzzer
with a pleasant doorbell can do wonders for your outlook!

Living Things

Living things represent growth, expansion, and vitality. Therefore, they are an
especially good cure for environments that seem stifling or cloying. A
flourishing plant, goldfish bowl, or pet will bring refreshing energy into any
space. Be aware that dried flowers have no life and should be used sparingly.
It's much better to have healthy, flourishing plants or fresh-cut blossoms, as
these are infused with energy. If your home feels cut off or isolated, place a
bird bath or bird feeder in your yard. These cures will attract social
opportunities, as well as a variety of feathered friends.

Symbols

Symbols are a manifestation of the unconscious mind. They can be used as

cures in subtle but powerful ways. For instance, if you feel defeated at work,
hang a picture of a self-confident person directly across from your desk. If you
yearn for love, fill your living space with artwork depicting happy couples. If
you want to find your life's passion but aren't sure what it is, hang a colorful
map near your front entrance. Select your symbols mindfully; they are among
the most potent cures.

Moving Objects

When an environment seems stale or stagnant, you can bet the inhabitants
are stuck in some way. Moving objects can stir up energy in a space, thereby
creating movement in stalled areas of life. Fountains are especially good
cures for the Career, Family, and Self-empowerment areas, because these
gua thrive on movement. Wind chimes are beneficial for the Creative
Offspring Gua, while mobiles are especially effective in the Helpful People
Gua.

Heavy Objects

Unstable or erratic environments can benefit from heavy objects. Heavy

objects help slow down restless energy that can race through a space,
making the inhabitants feel restless and distracted. Large potted plants, stone
statues, and heavy pieces of furniture can make the space feel more stable,
thereby calming the people within it. As with any cure, make sure that the
heavy objects you choose to secure an area are attractive.

Furniture Placement

Rearranging furniture is one of the easiest and most effective cures. Do your
best to make the energy flow easily in and out of rooms. Try to position
seating arrangements so that they face the main entrance of a room; that
way, the people sitting down won't feel as though somebody could sneak up
behind them, and the people entering the room won't feel snubbed. Similarly,
if you have a desk, arrange it so the seated person can have a full view of the
room; working while facing a wall is spiritually deadening. If you want a
relationship, make sure there is ample room on both sides of the bed;
jamming one corner against the wall will ward potential partners away like the
plague. Last but not least, keep doorways clear of furniture. Blocked
entryways are symbols of blocked lives.

Storage

Creating a clean, organized storage area is the best cure for a chaotic life.
Any living or work space that is clogged with papers, discarded objects,
forgotten materials, and an overabundance of furniture will confuse its
inhabitants. If you feel overwhelmed, go through your possessions and
discard any unwanted, outmoded, or depressing possessions. (If you've
inherited something that makes you guilty or ashamed, give it to another
relative who appreciates it, or sell it altogether. Such items are spiritual and
emotional drains.) Organize the rest of your possessions into baskets, boxes,
and closets. Try not to jam anything full?overcrowded bookshelves are a sign
of overcrowded lives. Sell or donate unwanted volumes, and leave space for
new information.

Colors

Color is the most dramatic of cures. All the colors of the rainbow are
associated with emotional properties. Consider how particular colors affect
you before choosing to repaint or wallpaper rooms. As a general rule, bright,
clear colors will uplift and energize a space. Muted, muddy colors will relax a
nervous environment. Pastels encourage creativity, while rich, jewel tones
bring contentment. The color white lends focus, while the color black invites
introspection. For a more thorough exploration of color and its effects, read
on!

Color My World

Color is a very important factor in creating an ideal environment. Before

adding color to any space, consider how you want to use the area. Work
spaces, rest spots, and communal areas should have very different feels to
them. The more you understand how color works, the more effectively you
can apply it.

Red

Red is passionate, outgoing, and assertive. It is best used in rooms meant for
lively interaction; it's also an excellent color for people who tend to
procrastinate. If you'd like to create a warm, passionate bedroom, use this
color sparingly, because an all-red boudoir could cause fights, as well as
sleeplessness. Touches of scarlet, cranberry, and crimson can be enough to
draw excitement and drama into a relationship. This is not a good color to use
if you want to deflect attention away from yourself.
Orange

Orange is associated with health, vitality, and fusion. It's an excellent color to
bring people together, and can be used very effectively in living rooms, dens,
and conference rooms. Adding orange to a cold, impersonal space can make
a tremendous improvement. Experiment with this color in rooms that are
seldom used in your work or living space. Using orange blossoms in a floral
centerpiece is sure to promote lively, enthusiastic conversation at the dinner
table. This is not a good color to use if you want to convey authority or power.

Yellow

The effect of yellow varies dramatically with its shade. Bright yellow works
very well in kitchens, as it supports work and inspires conversation. Pale
yellow can have an uplifting effect in the bedroom of a person who is prone to
depression. The calming energy of warm, earthy yellow can work very well in
reception areas. Stay away from rich yellow if you have a tendency to get
stuck or frustrated, as this is a grounding shade. Remember: light, bright
yellows inspire energy, while rich, mellow hues create stability.

Green

Green is associated with growth, change, and movement. Contrary to popular

belief, this is not a restful shade, unless it is expressed in a muted shade like
sage. It is best used in areas where expansion is desired, like children's
rooms, communal spaces, store fronts, and study areas. People who suffer
from cancer or other "spreading" diseases should stay away from green,
because it encourages growth. (White, which inhibits growth, is a much better
choice for sick patients; use soft, eggshell tones if pure white is too strenuous
on the eyes.) Because green is at the center of the color spectrum, it can
inspire diplomacy or indecision, depending on the nature of the inhabitants.
Use accordingly.

Blue

Blue is introspective, calm, and serene. It's an excellent color for people who
are overwhelmed or make foolhardy decisions. Because blue makes people
draw inward, it is not a good main color for a shared bedroom or communal
area. Light, bright blues are excellent for offices that suffer from lots of stress.
It's a very good color for people who suffer from high blood pressure and
hypertension, but make sure not to use it to the extent that it depresses
occupants. Adding small touches of orange or red to a largely blue room will
encourage a respectful exchange of ideas. Blue and yellow is a good
combination for a room that should inspire relaxed activity, like a kitchen or
dining room.

Purple

Purple represents spirituality, dignity, and personal power. Darker shades like
plum and eggplant can create a grand, impressive atmosphere, while lighter
lilacs, lavenders, and violets are soothing and restorative. Dark purple works
well in formal dining rooms, executive offices, and sumptuous boudoirs. Light
purple is great for meditation rooms, bathrooms, and utility rooms.
Remember: soft purple encourages transition, while deep purple supports
foundations.

Pink

Feminine and nurturing, pink eases anger and inspires tenderness. It's a good
color for rooms where intimacy is desired, like shared bedrooms or small
sitting areas. Bright, peppermint pink can inspire cheerfulness, while pale,
petal pink soothes and refreshes. This is a gently uplifting color than can
promote emotional healing. Occupants of sick rooms can greatly benefit from
all shades of pink.

Brown

Brown is associated with stability, security, and grounding. Chocolate brown is

a wonderfully decadent color that invites occupants to relax and unwind; this
color can deepen people's appreciation of food, sex, and other sensual
delights. Tan is a grounding hue that works well for high-traffic areas like
hallways and narrow kitchens. Stay away from this color if you have a
tendency to procrastinate, but feel free to use it if you want to get in touch with
your body.

White

White is pure, innocent, and clean. Pure white can feeling cleansing in small
areas like bathrooms, or isolating in large spaces like living rooms. White
places the emphasis on the occupants in a room; therefore, it can make
people feel self-conscious. However, it is an excellent color to use in spaces
where self-care is emphasized, like sick rooms, exercise areas, and
bathrooms. Used sparingly, white helps people focus, and is good for offices
in which people have a hard time concentrating. White accents also work well
in shared bedrooms, because it encourages occupants to pay attention to one
another.

Black

Black is deep, mysterious, and intriguing. It's a great color to use when you
want to draw attention to a piece of artwork or furniture. If you have a precious
painting or antique you'd like to display, consider painting a wall black and
positioning this treasure on or against it. Sparing touches of black in the
bedroom can encourage sexual exploration, while black office furnishings can
be used to awe or intimidate clientele. Avoiding using large expanses of black,
as this color can feel oppressive and depressing.

Metallics
Metallic colors like gold, silver, copper, and bronze can inspire joy and
creativity. Gold lends a feeling of wealth and refinement, while silver feels
cooling and purifying. Mellow tones like copper and bronze are stabilizing
without being depressing. Use sparing touches of metallics in any room that
seems stagnant or oppressive. Reduce the amount of metallics in spaces that
feel cold, clinical, and alienating.

Neutrals

Neutral colors like linen, beige, gray, and cream convey simplicity and order.
Use these colors in any spaces that feel overly busy or chaotic. Painting
storage areas and closets neutral colors (as opposed to dead white) will
inspire you to reduce clutter and organize the remaining contents. A person
who is prone to sickness would do well to paint their bedroom a neutral color,
because such hues also promote balanced good health. This is a good palette
to paint your office if you tend to over-analyze things. Keep away from
neutrals if you have a hard time setting yourself apart from the crowd or have
little willpower.

The Bare Bones: Doors, Windows, Ceilings, and Stairways

Doors, windows, ceilings and stairways deserve special consideration in Feng

Shui, because they represent the "bones" of a dwelling. Ideally, these
structures will be positioned in such a way that energy flows easily around
them. If they are not, don't panic. You can easily implement cures to redirect
the flow of energy throughout your space so that the occupants are nurtured,
inspired, and supported. Here are a few ground rules and suggestions
regarding the skeleton of your home.

Doors

Because doors allow energy to enter a space, they play a very important part
in Feng Shui. They should not squeak, stick, or bump into things. Oiling the
hinges of your doors and clearing furniture from their pathways will remove
personal obstacles from your life. If you're really ambitious, you can always re-
hang doors that open in an inconvenient direction.

Naturally, the front door is the most significant one; it represents career
opportunities and self-esteem. Installing handsome doorknobs, hinges, and
door knockers can make a tremendous improvement to your self-image.
Painting your door a dramatic color can also attract exciting job offers. Read
the "Career" section of your report to find out which color is ideal for you.

If you don't enter your home through the front door, rethink your path. Unless
your back door opens into a beautiful, uplifting space, it's likely to make you
feel depressed. Try using your front door for an entire week, just as an
experiment. The activity will draw positive energy into the front of your home,
thereby improving your image and outlook.
Your front door holds special meaning for your career, regardless of which
Gua it occupies. If it falls in the Wisdom Gua, your career success depends
on what you know. If it falls in the Helpful People Gua, your career success
depends on who you know. If it falls in the Career Gua, your job represents
who you are. Take this into consideration when you want to apply for a new
job or improve your career prospects.

If any door in your home or work space opens onto a wall, hang a picture with
a depth view on that wall. This will symbolically draw energy into your home,
rather than deflecting it, as a mirror would. Look at the "Career" section of
your report for suggestions on which pictures are appropriate for you.

If your home has more than one front door, make sure to hang a name plate
or an entrance sign on the one that you want visitors to use. Otherwise, it will
be hard for your home to attract the opportunities that are appropriate for you.

Windows

According to Feng Shui, windows symbolize the eyes. Therefore, dirty,

broken, or warped windows can cloud a person's perspective. Windows that
are stuck or painted shut can give you "tunnel vision," making it hard for you
to notice all the opportunities before you. Similarly, keeping the shades drawn
all the time can cause you to willfully ignore problems. Therefore, it will serve
you well to not only keep your windows in good repair, but to open and
uncover them at regular intervals.

If a room has too few windows, hang a mirror close by so that the daylight will
be doubled. Rooms that have no windows at all should be filled with
furnishings and artwork that mimics the outdoors. A tall tree, a big painting of
a nature scene, or a bubbling fountain can make the space seem less closed
and oppressive.

Conversely, a room that has too many windows can make occupants feel
nervous and exposed. Curtains and shades can provide a valuable sense of
protection, but can block out precious light. Lining plants along windowsills
can provide a nice buffer without sacrificing sunlight.

If you have a window that places an unpleasant view, try hanging a pane of
stained glass in front of it. This will improve your outlook and block out
negative energy.

Ceilings

The height of your ceilings has a strong impact on your expectations. Low
ceilings can cause people to underestimate their potential, while high ceilings
encourage people to "shoot for the stars." However, extremely high ceilings
can cause occupants to feel overconfident and disconnected from one
another, while comfortably low ceilings can give insecure people a welcome
sense of closeness and safety. Pay special attention to the way the ceilings in
your home make you feel.
If your ceilings are too low, paint the walls dark and the ceilings light; this will
make the area seem more expansive. Vertically striped wallpaper or curtains
can also make a room feel taller.

If your ceilings are too high, paint the ceiling a darker color than the walls.
Hanging long, horizontal paintings at eye level can also make a room seem
less expansive.

Slanted ceilings can cause headaches and make a person feel constricted.
Painting a sky scene on a sloping wall can help alleviate the pressure. Placing
a large mirror on the slanted part of the ceiling can make the space seem less
cramped, too. If you work best in a cozy, closed environment, however, you
may want to set up a home office in a room with slanted ceilings. Children
who tend to act out can also benefit from a bedroom with sloped or low
ceilings.

If you have overhead beams, try painting them the same color as the ceiling
to make the space feeling less oppressive. Aiming lights up toward the ceiling
can also relieve the pressure.

Stairways

Stairs are conductors of energy; they connect one level of a house to another.
Therefore, they should be secure, brightly lit, and expansive. Gently curving
staircases slow down energy, while spiral and straight staircases speed it up.
Ideally, the flow of energy between floors should be slow and gentle.

Therefore, if you have a spiral staircase, paint the rail a grounding color, like
brown or mellow yellow or carpet the steps in an earthy shade. If you have a
straight staircase, you can slow down its energy by hanging a series of
square-framed pictures in regular intervals up one wall of the stairway.
Positioning plants in earthenware pots at the foot and head of such stairways
will also slow down energy, but only do this if you have plenty of space around
the landings. It's more important to have clear, uncluttered stairways.

If you have a cramped or narrow stairway, paint the walls a light color to
create an illusion of openness. Hanging a bright light or colorful lantern over
such a stairway can also encourage a positive flow of energy.

Stairs with no risers can drain energy from the upper floors of your home. By
placing a tall plant beneath the stairs, you can block this drain. Positioning a
torch lamp in this spot can also redirect the flow of energy upwards.

A stairway that faces the front entrance can cause money to run right out the
door. Hanging a beautiful chandelier or light fixture between the door and
staircase can anchor the wealth inside the space. Putting a heavy object like a
statue or chair at the base of the stairs can also stabilize your finances.
Chapter 2. Enhance Martha's Career

Introduction

The center of the entrance wall of your home governs your career and life
path. As a Leo, you are a proud person who thrives on attention. Therefore,
you benefit most from having a job that allows you to take center stage.
Working behind-the-scenes is not for you. You need a career that allows you
to show off your talents. Therefore, your Career Gua requires lots of attention-
getting cures. Here are some suggestions for the various rooms that could fall
into this area of your home.

Exterior Entrance

The outside entrance to your home should be as stunning and vibrant as

possible to invite the kinds of job opportunities you want. Painting the front
door bright red is a good start. Pots of bright red geraniums placed on either
side of the door can enhance your career, too. You can also plant red flowers
in garden beds or window boxes for the same effect. Flame-shaped flowers
like tiger lilies will also win you favorable notice at work. A well-lit front walk is
essential; installing sunken lights along the path to your door is a sure-fire way
to land a plum position. If you have problems getting answers back to job
queries, install a peaked-roof mailbox near your front entrance, with your
name and address prominently displayed on the side.

Hallway

Your front hallway should convey an air of majesty. A deep, royal purple will
draw the important job opportunities you seek. The furnishings in this area
should be as grand and opulent as possible. Position a gorgeous vase filled
with fresh flowers in front of a tall, gilt mirror. An upholstered bench with
curved arms will attract jobs in luxurious industries. If you want to be in the
entertainment field, hang an attractive, current photograph of yourself in a gilt
frame, and put it in a prominent spot in your hallway. Otherwise, you can
always hang an eye-catching picture that portrays your favorite art form
somewhere in the hall. If you're looking for a job in the fashion industry, you
can hang framed magazine covers along the walls of your hallway. Aligning a
series of beautiful hats along the wall will work well, too. (Be sure to align the
tops, not bottoms, of the hats for maximum visual impact.).

Bathroom

If your bathroom is in the Career Gua, make it a place to luxuriate. Plush

materials will attract the posh career opportunities you desire. Invest in
beautiful towels, and don't forget a cushy bath mat and toilet seat cover!
Shades of purple are ideal for your Career Gua. The lighting should be rich
and sumptuous. A big, gilt-framed mirror will further increase your job
prospects, but make sure you can see your entire face in it; if your head or
neck is cut off, your career could be compromised. Violet-scented soaps and
candles can further enhance the energy in your bathroom, but use this scent
only if it appeals to you. You'll want your bathroom to appear as expansive as
possible, so try painting the walls a dark color and keeping the ceiling white. If
you decide to make over your bathroom completely, you may want to consider
laying tiles on the diagonal, as this will make the space look bigger.

Living Room

Your living room should be an active, social space that allows you to bask in
the spotlight. Therefore, you'll want a dynamic seating arrangement that
places your special chair at the heart of the room. A fat leather chair with
generous arms and a tall back would suit you well; if you're looking for a job
that lets you kick back and relax, you may want to add a comfortable footstool
to this arrangement. Be sure to angle your chair so it faces the entrance of
your living room. Decorate this room in a variety of plums, violets, and
purples; if you want this room to have a more masculine feel, you can add
brown accents. Focus bright lights on key areas of the room; this will
strengthen your career prospects. At least one gilt-framed picture of yourself
should be displayed prominently in this room. Photos, paintings, and sketches
of animals (especially felines) can also draw positive energy into your Career
Gua. If you play a musical instrument, give it a place of honor in your living
room. You may even want to aim a light at this particular spot.

Kitchen

Ideally, your kitchen should be a dynamic room that encourages lively

interaction. Three-legged stools, a tall kitchen table, and a wheeled butcher
block counter can add dynamism to your kitchen and, consequently, your job
prospects. If your stove doesn't face the entrance of your kitchen, position a
mirror over it so you can see the door. Bright, bold colors will work best in
your kitchen, and you may want to add bright task lighting to your food
preparation area. Stocking your pantry with gourmet items could help land you
a luxurious job. If your kitchen is in the Career Gua, you definitely are what
you eat! Visible storage will also improve your job prospects, so consider
installing clear glass doors on your kitchen cabinets or displaying plates,
pans, and cooking utensils open shelves.

Dining Room

The more glamorous your dining room, the better your job prospects will be. A
long, rectangular wooden table works best for you; surround it with high-
backed chairs. Make sure that you sit at the head of the table; your chair
should be slightly different than the others, perhaps having arms or a taller
back. A thick Oriental carpet with a swirling design will add grandeur to this
space, as will a chandelier with triangular crystals. Heavy velvet draperies are
another good means of attracting good job offers. A gracious sideboard
heaped with plates will lead to abundant job offers. If your dining room is in
the Career Gua, take care to eat here by candlelight at least three times a
week. Whenever possible, have purple flowers as your centerpiece.
Home Office

Blessed with considerable leadership ability, your home office should convey
authority. Thick pile carpeting, an imposing desk, and luxurious office furniture
are all musts for you. Make sure that you have a commanding view of the
room's entrance from your desk. If this isn't possible, position a gilt-framed
mirror that reflects the door from where you are seated. Hang any diplomas or
certificates on the center portion of the wall farthest from the entrance; this will
confer favorable recognition in your professional life. Placing a beautiful
picture of yourself in the far left corner of the room will help you land an
executive position, while putting it at the center far wall will win you fame.
Decorating your home office in rich shades of purple, violet, and plum can
substantially improve your career prospects.

Storage/Utility Area

If you've got a storage or utility area in your Career Gua, take great pains to
make it as attractive and eye-catching as possible. Paint the inside door a
regal purple. If this space is lit by a bare bulb, cover it with a beautiful Chinese
paper lantern. If you're looking for a job where you can showcase your talent,
hang a gorgeous picture of yourself in this room - the bigger the photograph
is, the more noticed you will be. Spend extra money on attractive storage
bins, baskets, and file cabinets; the investment will pay off in the form of a
great job. If you've got a laundry room here, paint the walls a vibrant color,
hang beautiful curtains over the window, and treat your possessions well. A
high-quality iron, padded ironing board, good hangers, and nice laundry
baskets can all improve your career prospects. Martha Stewart's a Leo, and
she's got one of the beautiful laundry rooms around. Follow her example!.

Master Bedroom

In order to attract the job opportunities you want, your bedroom should feel
like a royal chamber. A grand, four-poster bed would work wonders for your
career, but stay away from king-sized models; they'll lead to stagnation.
Surround yourself with artwork that makes you feel personally empowered.
Pictures of strong, confident people will enhance your star power. Of course,
you'll want to hang a current photo of yourself in a prominent place. Rich
colors and textures are a must for you; raw silk throw pillows, velvet chair
cushions, and jacquard bed linens can all enhance the energy in your boudoir.
Your bedroom furniture should be large, substantial, and elegant. Jewel colors
like amethyst, ruby, sapphire, and emerald will draw luxurious jobs offers.
Make sure that you have adequate lighting on either side of your bed.

Children's Bedroom

The playful energy of children is ideal for your Career Gua. If your child's
bedroom rests in this area, paint it bright, clear colors like purple, red, orange,
green, or yellow. The furniture should be solid, substantial, and able to
withstand rough-housing. A big, colorful toy chest will attract jobs that feel
more like play than work. If an older child occupies this room, take care that it
has expressions of personal dignity. The occupant's own artwork, awards, and
trophies should hold prominent places in this area. Be sure that the child's
interests are reflected in the paintings and photographs; don't impose your
taste on their living space. By honoring the child's wishes, you'll attract jobs
that will afford you the respect you deserve.

Guest Bedroom

If your guest room is in your Career Gua, take care to put your personal
stamp on it. Place an attractive photograph of yourself in a prominent position,
and fill the room with all the amenities you'd like to have when visiting
someone else's house. Designer sheets, terry cloth bathrobes, and extra
blankets are a must here. It's also a good idea to put at least one bright lamp
in your guest room; set it on a timer so that it goes on every day. That way,
the energy in your Career Gua will never grow stale. Decorating this room in
varying shades of purple will draw the regal job opportunities you crave.

Garage

Pay special attention to your garage if it rests in your Career Gua. There is no
reason this room can't be attractive and eye-catching. The first order of
business is to keep your garage neat and organized. Place storage items on
metal shelving and colorful plastic bins. Sell, donate, or throw away anything
you haven't used in a year. Leave plenty of space around your car; if you have
to squeeze to get out of your automobile, your job offers will be few and far
between. Paint the door that leads into your home a soft, beautiful mauve,
and position a handsome doormat on the garage floor. Most importantly, give
your car an air of distinction. Personalize the license plate, put a stuffed lion in
the back window, or hang a golden crown ornament on the rear view mirror.

Chapter 3. Expand Martha's Wisdom

Introduction

As someone with natal Mercury in Cancer, you are an emotional person who
leads with your heart, not with your head. You can sometimes get so
overwhelmed by your feelings that you get tongue-tied. You're reluctant to
betray your innermost thoughts to anyone but your nearest and dearest.
Therefore, your Wisdom Gua can benefit from some clarifying cures. Here are
some suggestions for enhancing your Wisdom Gua so that you can use your
knowledge and life experience to maximum advantage.

Porch/Exterior Entrance

A porch that is uplifting and refreshing will support your Wisdom Gua
beautifully. Wicker furniture will encourage you to put plans into action. If you
feel depressed or unmotivated, cover the furniture with striped cushions. To
become more focused and dedicated, hang some bamboo wind chimes from
your porch railing. A sisal area rug will encourage you to follow through with
creative projects, instead of abandoning them at the first sign of boredom.
Illuminate your porch with bright, cheerful lights if you are easily distracted
from your goals. If your entrance falls in the Wisdom Gua, pay special
attention to the front door. Paint the front door gunmetal blue if you'd like to
win respect for your ideas. Bracket your front door with tall plants to make the
most of your wisdom and experience. An attractive flag or banner will
encourage folks to take your ideas seriously, and help you gain a name as a
respected authority in your desired field.

Hallway/Stairs

Emphasizing the main doorway of your hall will make you more apt to try new
things. Paint the molding around your front door a bright, vibrant green. Wall
sconces that cast light up at the ceiling will help get your ideas off the ground.
If you have enough room, place a narrow console table with spindly legs in
the hall. This will help voice ideas, even in the most intimidating environments.
Tall planters can also help you separate logic from emotion, allowing you to
make more practical decisions. If a staircase falls in this area of your home,
paint the treads ascending shades of green, using the darkest color for the
bottom stair, and the lightest for the top. This color scheme will prompt you to
develop past the initial stages. Place a square sisal area rug at the top of the
stairs to become more open-minded and adventurous.

Bathroom

A bathroom that rejuvenates your spirits is ideal for the Wisdom Gua. Green
towels, candles, and soaps will make you feel more engaged with life. A
bamboo shade, rattan bath mat, and wicker wastebasket will stimulate your
curiosity. If you have trouble completing tasks, install a wooden toilet seat.
Lavender-scented soaps, lotions, and candles will make you a more
independent thinker, but only use this scent if it's pleasing to you.

Living Room

Fill your living room with up lights, wicker furnishings, and tall bookcases if
you want to become more open-minded, adventurous, and outgoing. Paint the
walls green or paper them with stripes if you want to enhance your leadership
abilities. Take care that your living room isn't crowded with furniture, or you
could dwell on depressing thoughts that don't move you forward. A couch with
four seats will help you thrive under pressure, as four is the number of stability
and confidence. Filling this room with tall pillar candles will encourage you to
pursue interests and hobbies.

Kitchen

A tidy, orderly kitchen that sits in your Wisdom Gua can promote organized
thinking. Thriving plants, natural wood finishes, and tall furniture will make it
easier for you to make suggestions fearlessly. Striped lightweight curtains will
allow you to adopt a more positive outlook on life. Hang artwork in vertical,
rectangular frames on the walls if you have a hard time getting ideas off the
ground. Keep pathways straight and clear to improve your communication
skills. Grouping pots of herbs along your kitchen windows will prevent you
from internalizing negative feelings.

Dining Room

A cheerful, spacious dining room will draw wonderful energy into your Wisdom
Gua. A long, rectangular wooden table will prompt in-depth conversations that
will uplift and inspire you. Ladder-backed chairs will make you more attentive
to your fellow diners' ideas. Place a pair of tall candlesticks on the table if you
have a hard time defending your opinions. Striped chair cushions and curtains
will give shape and definition to your thoughts, allowing you to present them
with confidence and pride.

Home Office

Your home office should have plenty of room to move if it sits in the Wisdom
Gua. A rectangular wooden desk with spindly legs will help ideas to flow
freely. Choose a work chair with a tall straight back if you have a hard time
staying alert. Stimulate your curiosity with a rattan rug underfoot. Striped
curtains and light green walls will lift your energy and allow you to take a more
active role in decision-making. Halogen lamps that cast beams of light upward
will help you think ahead, as will tall, narrow bookshelves.

Storage/Utility Area

A storage area that sits in your Wisdom Gua should be aired frequently. This
is a good space to store seasonal items, or cleaning products that will be used
on a regular basis. Paint the inside door bright green to stimulate positive
thought. Hang a wooden wind chime on the doorknob if you have a hard time
expressing your ideas. Keep items off the floor if possible; install shelving if
you have a hard time getting ideas off the ground. If you have a utility room in
this spot, fill the room with plants to instill optimism. If you don't have a
window in your utility room, hang a tall, rectangular picture of a forest scene
here. This will stir your curiosity and encourage you to explore new ideas.

Master Bedroom

If your bedroom is in the Wisdom Gua, paint the room a fresh, uplifting green
so you can develop new ideas. Striped curtains or sheets can improve your
planning skills. A solid rectangular headboard will help you make decisions in
a clear-minded fashion. If you have a tendency to get bogged down with
emotion, opt for tall, narrow furniture with spindly legs, rather than low, boxy
pieces that hold energy down. Leave plenty of space on either side of the bed,
or your relationships could hamper independent thinking. A carpet with a
slightly rough texture will stimulate your creativity.
Children's Bedroom

A child's room that encourages focus, decision-making, and engagement is

ideal for your Wisdom Gua. A round work table will encourage both you and
your child to make choices independent of popular opinion. Hang a mirror that
reflects your child's entire face if you want to make decisions in your own best
interest. Soft colors like petal pink, powder blue, and spring green will make
you feel less self-conscious about expressing your true opinion. If you or your
child have a difficult time being consistent, get bed linens, curtains, or
wallpaper with a regularly repeated pattern.

Guest Bedroom

It's important for you to draw firm boundaries with loved ones if your guest
room sits in your Wisdom Gua. If you feel overburdened by other people's
problems, cover the bed with all white linens. Hang a circular mirror on the
wall if you tend to be too forgiving of loved ones who continually let you down.
Lightweight, polka-dot curtains will encourage you to voice your thoughts
more readily. If you have a hard time separating your feelings from your
thoughts, try an area rug instead of a wall-to-wall rug, and keep the exposed
parts of the floor highly polished.

Garage

If your garage is in the Wisdom Gua, make it spare, clean, and tidy. Paint the
walls a soft white or pastel color, which will give your thoughts focus and
shape. A circular clock placed to the left of the door leading into your home
will help you put reason before emotion when making decisions. If you have a
hard time putting emotional issues to rest, hang a picture of a beautiful sunset
on this door. Above all, clean out your garage whenever you feel
overburdened. Throw away or donate anything you haven't used in a year.
Holding a garage sale twice a year will help you make more logical decisions.

Chapter 4. Support Martha's Family Life

Introduction

As someone with natal Saturn in Taurus, you want a family that stresses
reliability, stability, and comfort. It's difficult for you to enjoy yourself unless
you know you can fall back on your family for support. Similarly, you may go
to extraordinary lengths to provide your family with a financially secure
foundation. Your Family Gua can benefit from some grounding cures. Here
are some suggestions for making your family life rich and satisfying.

Porch
A porch that is practical and resourceful will draw stabilizing energy into your
Family Gua. Line the perimeter of your porch with flowering plants in square
terra cotta pots if you want a settled family situation. Spacing these plants at
regular intervals will make it easier for you to find common ground with family
members. Low porch furniture with straight backs and plaid cushions will
create a steadfast, loyal family environment. Stay away from bright colors in
this area of your home. Earthy shades of red, yellow, and brown will allow you
to have realistic expectations of one another. Integrate these colors into chair
cushions, the porch rug, or the furniture itself. A ceramic wind chime will lend
a peaceful quality to your family relations.

Bathroom

If your bathroom is in the Family Gua, make it a place of strength and stability.
Paint the walls a rich, handsome color like mahogany to cultivate a stable
family life. Choose absorbent towels in solid colors if you don't feel supported
by relatives. Ceramic soap dishes, lotion dispensers, and candle holders will
help each member of your family feel purposeful and needed. Keep the
lighting low and flattering in your bathroom, especially if your family is
combative. A square throw rug can also diminish heated exchanges.
Honeysuckle-scented candles, soaps, and lotions can draw nurturing energy
into your Family Gua, but only use this scent if it pleases you.

Hallway/Stairs

Your hallway should be resourceful and receptive if it rests in your Family

Gua. Paint the walls a healing neutral color like sand or beige if you have
trouble relating to your family. A plush carpet with a regular pattern of
repeated designs will help you find common ground with relatives. If your
family discussions are frequently heated, hang pictures of serene landscapes
in square frames along the walls. A sturdy table with thick legs will make it
easier for relatives to come together in a spirit of harmony. Keep the lighting
low and flattering in your hallway, particularly if your family has suffered lots of
jarring disruptions. If you have a staircase in your Family Gua, make it stable
and reassuring. Paint the balusters (the posts that hold the railing up) a rich
shade of brown to steadfast family relationships. Cover the treads with a rich,
dark carpet to prompt love and understanding among relatives. Hang
attractive photos of each family member along the wall to make everybody
feel valued and appreciated. Make sure each relative likes their respective
picture before putting it on display.

Living Room

A living room that is balanced and nurturing will draw grounding energy into
your Family Gua. Display photographs of family members in square brown
frames to cultivate harmony. Make sure that each member of your household
is represented, and take care that these photos have happy memories
attached to them. A mixture of old and new photographs will prevent your
family from getting stuck in a rut. Well-upholstered furniture with straight
backs will encourage relatives to have faith in one another. Choose a square
coffee table if you're afraid to express your emotions to family members. A
textured carpet is preferable to a flat rug, as this will prevent relatives from
keeping silent about their feelings. If you don't feel relaxed with your family,
invest in a square, plush ottoman. Move seating so that it's in a cozy three-
sided arrangement, and make sure that each seated person has a clear view
of the living room's main entrance.

Kitchen

If your kitchen sits in the Family Gua, make it nurturing and receptive. Avoid
bright lights in this room, or it will be difficult for your family to feel united. A
shaded lamp that envelops your kitchen table in a warm pool of golden light is
preferable to an overhead fixture that emits general diffuse light. Ceramic
dishes, pottery jars, and terra cotta planters can lend a feeling of security and
stability to a family that has suffered a lot of disruptions. Choose yellow
napkins, curtains, or place mats if you want to cultivate peaceful relationships
among family members. Put a square area rug beneath your kitchen table if
your family has a hard time getting together for meals.

Dining Room

Your dining room should convey loyalty, constancy, and reliability if it rests in
your Family Gua. A square table will prompt family members to have faith in
one another, especially if it rests on top of an earth-colored rug. Surround the
table with low, tufted chairs. This will put relatives at ease with one another,
prompting harmonious relationships. A china cabinet without legs can help
everybody withstand outside pressures that are affecting the family. Artwork
depicting mountains, beaches, or landscapes will make your family strong and
resilient.

Home Office

A home office that is practical and unified is an ideal enhancement for your
Family Gua. Paint the walls khaki, straw, or cocoa you want to be a bedrock
of stability for your relatives. A heavy desk with a solid base will lend stability
and peace to your family situation. Choose an executive chair with a tall back
and solid legs if you want relatives to be more respectful toward one another.
To put an end to fighting, carpet your home office with a soft, resilient rug.
Plaid curtains or chair cushions can bring your family together in a spirit of
unity. Solid drapes covered by a boxy cornice will make it easier for family
members to open up to one another. A handsome rock paperweight will draw
nurturing energy into your Family Gua on a regular basis.

Storage/Utility Area

If you have a storage space in your Family Gua, make it practical and clutter-
free. Don't hang on to items just because they might come in useful one day.
Such possessions will get in the way of spending quality time with your family.
Fill your storage space with items that you use on a seasonal basis; anything
you haven't used in a year should be sold, donated, or thrown away. This will
reduce arguments and make your family life a lot more harmonious. Place
three mint sachets in your storage space to draw nurturing energy into your
Family Gua at all times. If you have a utility room in your Family Gua, paint it a
delicious color like coffee or chocolate. This will give your family relationships
a nice flavor. A comfortable work chair will make your relatives seem less like
a burden and more like a support system. Avoid harsh lighting in your utility
room. Soft white or pink light bulbs will encourage relatives to be more honest
and forthright with one another. Hang a beautiful still life across from your
work area if your family situation seems unsettled or unstable. If you have a
window in your utility room, arrange a series of ceramic jars in front of it.

Master Bedroom

Your bedroom should be as nurturing and restful as possible if it sits in the

Family Gua. Paint or paper the walls a grounding earth color like forest green
or brick red. Square night tables with solid bases will lend stability to a shaky
family unit. . A bed with a solid, straight headboard will also help you maintain
a secure relationship with relatives. If your family members interfere with your
primary relationship, keep their photographs out of your bedroom. Soft bed
linens will cultivate a more understanding relationship with these folks.
Checked fabrics are preferable to wildly patterned ones, especially if you can't
get along with certain members of the family. Furniture that is heavy and low
to the ground can draw grounding energy into your Family Gua. If you don't
feel supported by your family, invest in a bed with both a headboard and a
footboard.

Children's Bedroom

A child's bedroom that rests in the Family Gua should encourage

experimentation, goal setting, and loyalty. Choose fabrics with checked or
plaid patterns if your family seems adrift. Lamps that cast pools of light toward
the floor will create a feeling of intimacy among relatives. Paint the walls
yellow if your family is easily divided. A square work table will encourage your
relatives to come together during times of stress. A happy family photograph
displayed in a square brown frame can also draw nurturing energy into your
Family Gua. Make sure that this photo is displayed at a height where its
occupant can see it clearly. Stay away from tall, leggy furniture in this room; a
bed that is low to the ground will cultivate strong family relationships.

Guest Bedroom

If your guest room sits in your Family Gua, make it calm and reassuring. A
soft bed with a straight headboard will make you feel more secure within your
family. A box-pleated bed skirt will encourage family members to respect your
boundaries. If your guest room doesn't get a lot of use, consider putting a
softly ticking clock here. This will prevent your family relationships from
growing stale. Plaid curtains that hang straight to the floor will encourage
straightforward communications. Cover the bed with a couple of square, plush
pillows if you need more understanding from family members. To draw a
constant flow of stabilizing energy into your Family Gua, paint the walls a rich
russet color. .

Garage

A garage that rests in your Family Gua should be receptive and stable. Don't
store a random collection of junk in your garage, or your family could suffer
from unexpected upsets. If you have a hard time communicating with your
relatives, place three pieces of agate in a ceramic dish, and then put this dish
near the center right portion of your garage. To create a family atmosphere
that is rich and rewarding, hang a picture of an abundant harvest on the door
leading into your home. Painting the walls of your garage deep yellow will
draw nurturing energy into Family Gua on a regular basis.

Chapter 5. Facilitate Martha's Self-empowerment

Introduction

As someone with natal Pluto in Leo, you realize your personal power through
entertaining others. Nothing makes you feel more confident than when you
provide folks with a welcome distraction from real life. Putting your creative
talents on display makes you feel strong and secure. If developing your
artistic skills has been difficult for you, try implementing some cures in your
Self-empowerment Gua. Just a few adjustments may be all that's necessary
for you to craft your ideal lifestyle.

Porch

A porch that sits in your Self-empowerment Gua should be open and

stimulating. Wooden porch furniture with straight angles will make you more
adventurous about expressing your creative side. To develop your artistic
talents, cover the seats with striped cushions. Arrange an odd number of
chairs around a rectangular coffee table to attract a captivated audience. If
you'd like to draw upon your personal power, flood your porch with bright,
cheerful light. Sisal or coir rugs will inspire you to craft a vibrant, dramatic
lifestyle that suits your innermost needs. Varying shades of green work best in
this area, especially if you feel dissatisfied or unfocused.

Bathroom

If your Self-empowerment Gua falls in your bathroom, make it a refreshing

space. Paint the walls an energizing color like lime green if you'd like to
discover your true calling in life. Striped towels will encourage you to take bold
steps toward your dreams. Hang pictures of beautiful herbs and flowers in
your bathroom to harvest your creative talents. Bright lighting will make others
sit up and take notice of your gifts. Violet-scented soaps, lotions, and candles
can strengthen the energy in your Self-empowerment Gua, but only use this
scent if it pleases you.

Living Room

A living room that sits in the Self-empowerment Gua should be lively and
simulating. Choose seats with straight backs, especially if you want to develop
your talent as an entertainer. A four-seated sofa will draw an attentive
audience. Leggy furniture that sits high off the ground will encourage you to
pursue your dreams. A long, wooden coffee table will give you a greater
sense of control over your destiny. Illuminate your living room with halogen
lamps that cast light up toward the ceiling, particularly if you suffer from low
self-esteem. Vertical pictures of positive outdoor scenes should be hung just
above eye level if you want to fulfill your potential. If feel empty or unfulfilled,
place a flourishing plant on a tall pedestal in the far left corner of your living
room.

Kitchen

An upbeat, spacious kitchen will draw positive energy into your Self-
empowerment Gua. Choose light window coverings that allow sunlight to flood
into the room, especially if you want to develop your skills as an entertainer. If
you'd like to change directions in life, fill your kitchen with an odd number of
flourishing plants. Paint the walls olive green to tap into your creative
potential. Striped napkins, dish towels, and curtains will cultivate a loyal
personal following. Choose a rectangular kitchen table, particularly if you feel
unfulfilled or stuck in a rut.

Dining Room

If your dining room sits in your Self-empowerment Gua, make it as fun and
engaging as possible. A rectangular dining room table with straight legs will
put you in control of your destiny. If you'd like to find your true purpose in life,
paint or paper the dining room bottle green. Not only will this color give you a
stronger sense of self, it will encourage you to develop your gifts as an
entertainer. Wall sconces that contain candles will make people aware of your
talents. Choose pleated curtains for this room, especially if you're fearful
about making a big lifestyle change. Furniture with a natural wood finish will
prevent you from choosing safety over happiness. Make sure there is an odd
number of chairs around your dining room table; otherwise, you could get
stuck in an unfulfilling lifestyle.

Home Office

Your home office should be inspiring and refreshing if it sits in the Self-
empowerment Gua. A trestle-table that doubles as a desk is ideal for tapping
into your life's passion. Position the desk so that it faces the door, or you'll
have difficulty fulfilling your potential. If it's impossible to arrange your desk
this way, hang a mirror so that you have a clear view of the entrance when
sitting down. Make sure that you have a work chair with a tall back in your
office, or it will be hard to focus on your goals for personal fulfillment. Place
your desk on a solid surface, like the bare floor or a plastic mat. This will make
you aware of what you need to thrive. Avoid a work chair on wheels if you'd
like to establish a prominent position in the entertainment field. If you feel
depressed or unfulfilled, place a tall, handsome clock that softly ticks in the far
left corner of your home office.

Storage/Utility Area

A storage area that sits in your Self-empowerment Gua should be spacious

and useful. Keep your storage area filled with items you use and appreciate.
This will help you discover what it is you really want to do in life. Keep your
storage area neat, clean, and fresh, or you could feel trapped in a miserable
situation. If you have shelves in this space, cover them with attractive floral or
striped paper. This cure will encourage you to develop your creative potential.
Keep four lavender sachets in your storage area to draw vitalizing energy into
your Self-empowerment Gua at all times. If you have a utility area in your Self-
empowerment Gua, paint the walls spring green. This color will make you
aware of your life's purpose, making it easier to craft a fulfilling lifestyle. If
friends and family don't support your dreams, hang a picture of a gorgeous
forest directly across from your work area, just above eye level. Display this
picture in a natural wood frame if you need to trigger a dramatic lifestyle
change.

Master Bedroom

If your bedroom falls in the Self-empowerment Gua, you are in an excellent

position to gain control of your destiny. Make the most of this fortunate
placement by positioning your bed so that it faces the entrance. If this
arrangement is absolutely impossible, position a mirror so that you can see
your bedroom door clearly. Otherwise, it may be very difficult for you to find
your life's purpose. Your bedroom's décor should be uplifting, inspiring, and
refreshing. Paint the walls an energetic color like leaf green. Such a hue will
invite you to develop your creative talents. A handsome four-poster bed is
ideal for occupying a prominent place within your desired field; choose a
model that doesn't have upper railings or a canopy. Make sure there is plenty
of room on both sides of the bed, or you will feel hemmed in by circumstances
that are beyond your control. Tall night stands with rectangular tops will
encourage you to break out of a conventional mold, helping you find your
bliss. If you have a problem with self esteem, place a leggy vanity table in the
far left corner of your room. Alternately, you can put a handsome wardrobe
here.

Children's Bedroom

A child's bedroom that sits in the Self-empowerment Gua should inspire

curiosity and exploration. Paint the walls a bright color like apple green. This
will encourage you to develop your creative gifts. Striped bed linens will make
people more receptive to your talents. Choose furniture with a natural wood
finish if you want to be fully engaged with life. An area rug that feels
stimulating beneath your feet will help you change any elements of your
lifestyle that are self-defeating. Sheer curtains that hang straight to the floor
will your direction in life obvious.

Guest Bedroom

Your guest room should be spacious and cheerful if it sits in the Self-
empowerment Gua. A bed with a straight wooden headboard will help you tap
your personal resources. Make sure that there is room on either side of the
guest bed, or you could feel trapped in a situation that makes you feel
powerless. Light your guest room with halogen lamps that illuminate the
ceiling, especially if you're afraid to pursue your dreams. Switch these lights
on at least three times a week, particularly if your guest room doesn't get
much use. If you feel depressed or defeated, place a tall, narrow bookshelf in
the far left corner of this room, and fill it with volumes that captivate and
delight you. Make sure to leave some empty space on each shelf, particularly
if your life is overburdened with boring chores.

Garage

If your garage is in the Self-empowerment Gua, make it rejuvenating place.

Paint the walls light green, especially if you feel like you're in a depressing rut.
To discover your true purpose in life, hang a picture of a majestic skyscraper
on the door leading into your home. A fibrous doormat will encourage you to
develop your personal power. If you feel depressed or adrift, place four pieces
of peridot in a wooden bowl, and then place the bowl in the far left corner of
your garage.

Chapter 6. Activate Martha's Wealth

Introduction

As someone with natal Sun in Leo, you are extremely thoughtful about
finances. In order for you to build your wealth, you can enact some inspiring
cures. Try implementing these cures in the far left corner of every one of your
rooms. Keep in mind that the more opulent these areas are, the easier it will
be for you to build wealth. You can use these cures in your home, office, or
both. Try the cure that resonates most with you, and then slowly implement
others as your wealth begins to grow. Before you know it, you'll be sitting on a
sizable nest egg.

Color

The color purple is sure to draw wealth to you like a magnet. Use it on the
walls, upholstery, curtains, or rug. Alternately, you can choose artwork with
lots of violet in it, or frame beautiful artwork in a purple frame. Using lavender
mattes for artwork can also increase your income.

Texture/Material

Surfaces with a stimulating texture can dramatically improve your financial

prospects. A needlepoint rug can work well here, as can wool blankets,
chenille upholstery, and wicker furniture.

Scents

Musky scents are a powerful way to activate your Wealth sectors. Candles,
essential oils, and potpourri are all good ways to introduce a pleasing scent
into your home. Choose aromas like ylang ylang, white musk, or frankincense
for these areas, but only use these fragrances if they are pleasing to you.

Sound

Popular music can activate your Wealth sector; if your income is stagnant; try
playing some rock, big band, or light jazz. Alternately, you can listen to music
that features lots of horns and trumpets. Playing a tape or CD of woodland
sounds can also increase your wealth. This cure works especially well when
your financial prospects grow stale.

Flowers

Gladiolas are ideal for activating your Wealth sector. Keep a tall vase filled
with these glorious blooms whenever conditions permit. Purple flowers can
also increase your income.

Semiprecious stones

Placing four pieces of rose quartz in the far left corner of your home is a
wonderful way to attract wealth; keep these stones in a beautiful red dish or
bowl, where they will always attract your attention.

Images

Photos of angels, dragonflies, or butterflies can dramatically increase your

income. Movie posters and pictures that depict the performing arts can also
work wonderfully well in your Wealth sector. Display any such images a little
higher than eye level. Images that run vertically instead of horizontally will
make your wealth rise.

Handcrafted Items

Whether you sew, sculpt, paint, or make collages, it's a good idea to place
examples of your handiwork in your Wealth sector. It doesn't matter whether
you're an amateur or a professional; handmade items that you enjoyed
making deserve a place of prominence in the far left corner of your home. The
more beautifully your work is displayed, the greater your wealth will be.

Chapter 7. Promote Martha's Fame

Introduction

As someone with natal Jupiter in Gemini, you gain recognition through your
intelligence and quick wit. Blessed with excellent communication skills, you
have the makings of a fabulous teacher, writer, or journalist. If you'd like to
make the most of your talents, make a few adjustments to your Fame Gua.
The more vibrant and dynamic your Fame Gua is, the higher your star will
rise.

Porch

A porch that is spacious, entertaining, and lively will support your Fame Gua
beautifully. Choose wooden seats with high, straight backs if you want people
to sit up and take notice of your ideas. Cover the chairs with brightly colored
cushions to improve your public image - red, orange, or purple are good
choices. Red geraniums in terra cotta planters will draw favorable attention
from authority figures. Install very bright on your porch if you haven't attained
the recognition you deserve. Keep a supply of games, puzzles, and cards on
your porch if you want to be in constant demand.

Bathroom

A bathroom that rests in your Fame Gua should be charismatic and

stimulating. Paint the walls cherry red if you want to become known as an
original, versatile thinker. To be recognized for your efforts at work, keep your
towels grouped in threes. A gold waste basket, shiny faucets, and a tall gilt
framed mirror will draw lots of admiring glances your way. Keep the lights
bright in your bathroom, particularly if you have been neglected or ignored by
people you want to impress. Orange-scented candles, lotions, and soaps can
draw magnetic energy into your Fame Gua, but only use this scent if it
pleases you.

Living Room

If your Fame Gua contains your living room, let it convey energy and
enthusiasm. Paint the walls red and the ceiling a complementary green. This
color scheme will draw attention to your accomplishments. A three-seated
sofa with narrow legs will increase your public stature. If your efforts have
gone unnoticed in the past, hang a picture of your favorite celebrity in a
prominent place. Display this picture in gilt frame if you want your reputation
to grow and prosper. A tall, beveled mirror will attract admiring glances from
both peers and superiors.

Kitchen

A festive, upbeat kitchen will give your Fame Gua plenty of added emphasis.
Choose a rectangular table with tapered legs if you want to highlight your
communication skills. Checked red curtains, napkins, and dish towels will help
your reputation expand as a clever problem-solver. If you want to be the
center of attention, cover your refrigerator with a variety of children's
drawings, funny cartoons, and party invitations. Display shiny pots and pans
on a baker's rack if you want to be known for your efficiency and versatility.
Play lively pop music in your kitchen if you're not getting the praise and
recognition you deserve. Show tunes can also draw dynamic energy into your
Fame Gua.

Dining Room

Your dining room should be regal and stimulating if it rests in the Fame Gua.
Satiny wallpaper or cranberry paint will help you attain a prominent position
among your peers. If you'd like to highlight your intellectual abilities, choose a
rectangular table with tapered legs. Chairs with high, straight backs will keep
all eyes riveted on you. A highly-polished floor will draw attention to your
leadership abilities, but a richly patterned Oriental rug will have the same
effect. To win the approval of authority figures, choose sheer curtains that
allow the sunlight to flood into the room. A three-pronged candelabrum set on
a narrow serving table will considerably enhance your public appeal.

Home Office

A Fame Gua that contains a home office should be dynamic and attention-
getting. A wooden desk with narrow, spindle legs will cause your star to rise.
To draw attention to your mental abilities, keep a chime clock in your office.
Your work chair should have a straight back and tapered legs if you want your
ideas to gain a big following. To break into a particular industry, display three
pictures related to this field across from your work area. Hanging these
pictures in a triangular formation will help you achieve fame in this area. Paint
the walls a warm color like coral, apricot, or peach if you want people to view
you as a trend-setter.

Storage/Utility Area

A storage area that rests in the Fame Gua should be spacious and attractive.
If this space is chaotic and disorganized, your reputation will suffer.
Everything in your storage room should be organized by theme. Off-season
clothing should be folded neatly in storage bins, paperwork should be sorted
by date, and holiday ornaments should put neatly in boxes. If you have a linen
closet here, divide sheets, pillowcases, and blankets into neatly folded piles.
Clearly designate a place for every item in your storage room; this will
increase your reputation as a versatile person with many different talents.
Keep three peppermint sachets in your storage space if you want to be
deemed an expert in your chosen field. If you have a utility area in your Fame
Gua, paint the walls rose, orange, or lilac to emphasize your intellectual
abilities. Hanging a picture of a beautiful wild animal across from your work
area will draw admiring glances from both peers and authority figures.

Master Bedroom

Your bedroom should be passionate and exciting if it rests in the Fame Gua.
A bed that is draped from above with a mosquito net will establish you as an
innovative thinker. If you want to be honored and valued, paint your bedroom
a warm color like coral, apricot, or peach. To highlight your abilities, cover the
floor with a highly textured area rug or a carpet with a wild pattern. A tall,
leggy dresser will help you rise above the competition. If you've outgrown your
current position, hang three pictures of mentors in a triangular formation.
Display these photos in gilt frames for the best effect.

Children's Bedroom

A child's bedroom that sits in the Fame Gua should be colorful and fun. To be
recognized as an inventive thinker, paint the walls putty and the door frame,
window sills, and base boards red. Wildly patterned bed linens will help you
get the credit you deserve for your accomplishments. Display brightly colored
artwork if you want to be known as an innovative thinker. If you'd like to
showcase your talents, put a variety of amusements in this bedroom. Games,
toys, and books will draw attention to your versatility. Bright overhead lights
will highlight your talents and attract the attention of authority figures. Leggy
furniture will draw magnetic energy into your Fame Gua.

Guest Bedroom

If your guest room is in the Fame Gua, make it an entertaining, fun-loving

place. A striking bed covered with jeweled colored bed linens will enhance
your reputation as a visionary. Wallpaper with geometric designs will draw
magnetic energy into your Fame Gua, as will golden orange paint. Cover the
floor with a highly textured rug to distinguish yourself from the competition. Fill
your guest room with bright lights if you want to be recognized for your
brilliance. Hang three cheerful sounding bells on a bright red ribbon, and then
attach the ribbon to your guest room door. This will enliven your guest room
even when it's not in use, thereby further enhancing your stature.

Garage

If your garage is in your Fame Gua, make it bold and energetic. Paint the
walls a whimsical color like saffron, violet, or sunflower yellow to gain attention
for your excellent ideas. Install bright lights in your garage if you have been
overlooked by authority figures in the past. To gain a loyal public following,
hang a picture of a winged angel or bird in flight just above eye level on the
door leading into your home. A red door mat will underscore your talent as a
brilliant thinker and excellent communicator.
Chapter 8. Improve Martha's Relationships

Introduction

As someone with natal Venus in Virgo, you are a discerning person who has
high standards. You're not the type of person to embark on a relationship just
for the sake of having a companion. Sometimes you don't trust your emotions,
which can interfere with your relationships. Therefore, your Relationship Gua
can benefit from some intensifying cures. Here are some suggestions for
enhancing your Relationship Gua so that you can experience the love and
companionship you deserve.

Porch

A porch that affords plenty of privacy is ideal for your Relationship Gua. If you
feel exposed while sitting on the porch, hang plants with trailing vines all along
the perimeter. This will make you less self-conscious about expressing your
feelings. Scalloped shades are also a good way to promote intimacy. Choose
furniture with curved, graceful lines if you want a partner who understands
and appreciates you. Add dark cushions to the seats to find a deep,
meaningful relationship. A pair of rocking chairs will attract a partner who
knows your needs intuitively.

Bathroom

A bathroom that serves as a sanctuary is ideal for your Relationship Gua.

Keep the artwork to a minimum here. A single picture of a pair of flowers, sea
shells, or fish can draw love into your life. Paint or paper the walls blue if you
want to be more expressive toward your partner. Instead of matching towels,
get ones in varying shades of the same color. This will make you more
versatile and adaptable in love. Lilac-scented soaps, lotions, and candles will
empower your Relationship Gua, but only use this scent if it pleases you.

Living Room

Your living room should be relaxed and comfortable if it sits in the

Relationship Gua. Avoid furniture with tall backs if you want to enjoy an easy,
loving relationship with your partner. Soft, tufted chairs and cozy sofas with
curved backs will open the lines of communication between you and your
partner. Decorate this room in varying shades of blue, especially if you've
been accused of being too critical. If you're single, place a pair of beautiful
glass vases in the far right corner of your living room, and leave them empty.
This will demonstrate that you are receptive to love. A curved glass-topped
coffee table will encourage empathy between you and your partner. Hang
artwork at different heights in your living room if you want to be more
spontaneous in love.
Kitchen

A kitchen that invites you to go with the flow is best suited to the Relationship
Gua. Arrange your cupboards and drawers so that often-used utensils and
cooking materials are within easy reach. Clear a path so that you can move
freely from the table to the stove to the sink. Above all, don't hang heavy
objects over your head, or you'll feel overburdened. An oval kitchen table will
make you more emotionally available to your partner. If you want a lover who
nurtures and encourages you, get chairs with curved backs and cushioned
seats. Blue dish towels, napkins, and curtains will enhance communications
between you and your lover. To attract love, add some hanging plants to your
kitchen.

Dining Room

If your dining room is in the Relationship Gua, make it a relaxing, receptive

place. A oval table with curved legs will keep the conversation flowing
between you and your partner. If you'd like a relationship that is a continual
source of joy and wonder, use a tablecloth that hangs to the floor. Elegant
brocade drapes that cascade to the floor will make you feel loved and
protected by your partner. If you're looking for someone special, get a
sparkling chandelier with many crystal drops. Dim lighting can create a new
sense of closeness between you and your partner. A soft, pale blue will bring
out your nurturing qualities, making you a desirable lover.

Home Office

A Relationship Gua that contains a home office should be comforting and

versatile. Position a curved desk where it has a commanding view of the
entrance, especially if you want to be more present in your relationship. A
black leather work chair with a tall back will make you feel more supported,
both at work and at home. Adding another comfortable chair to your work
space will invite love into your life. If you don't take enough time for your
relationship, add a plush, wall-to-wall carpet to your home office. This will
remind you that life is not all work, no play. Heavy drapes will create a feeling
of shared intimacy in your home office. If you have a lover, place a picture of
him or her on the far right corner of your desk. If you're not in a relationship,
hang a picture of a happy social scene across from your work area, where
you can see it clearly.

Storage/Utility Area

A storage area that sits in your Relationship Gua should be accommodating

and adaptable. Don't stuff this space with just your possessions, even if your
personal closet rests here. If you're in a relationship, hang a happy
photograph of you and your partner on the inside door. Make sure to update
the picture every six months. To attract a relationship, store some items that
reflect your dream lover's interests here. Don't pack this space too tight, or it
will be difficult for love to enter your life. A utility room that fills in the
Relationship Gua should be quiet and restful. Paint the walls a deep, vibrant
blue and arrange work materials so that they are easy to use. For instance,
place materials that you use often within arm's reach, and seasonal items on
higher shelves or lower bins. A picture of a restful scene with a winding path
can add depth and mystery to your relationship. Hang this picture directly
across from your work area at eye level.

Master Bedroom

If your bedroom sits in the Relationship Gua, you have a marvelous

opportunity to improve your love life. Make sure that your room is quiet and
restful. If you can hear street noise, put down a plush carpet on the floor, and
add heavy drapes. This will allow you and your lover to focus on each other. A
white-noise mechanism or a CD that plays nature sounds can also foster a
new closeness between you. Stay away from a rectangular or metal bed
frame, especially if you tend to be overly critical toward your partner. A curved
headboard will make you a tender, sensitive lover. Decorate your bedroom
with soft shades of blue, especially if you're looking for a rewarding
relationship. If blue is too somber for you, try a bright shade and add white or
yellow accents.

Children's Bedroom

A child's bedroom that falls in the Relationship Gua should be restful, dreamy,
and comforting. Paint or paper the walls a comforting blue-green shade if you
want to become more flexible in your relationships. Cover the floor with a
dark, wall-to-wall carpet if you want to appear more sensual and alluring.
Choose table and floor lamps instead of an overhead fixture if you want to be
more forgiving and accepting in love. Stay away from stripes or geometric
patterns in the curtains, bed linens, and carpet. Rich, solid fabrics will help
you trust your emotions, making you a tender, desirable lover.

Guest Bedroom

A guest room that is quiet, serene, and contemplative will strengthen your
Relationship Gua considerably. Arrange the furniture so that you can move
around in the room without feeling blocked or cramped. If your guest room is
small, put only a few pieces of furniture here. A bed with strong, heavy legs
will keep you attuned to your romantic partner's needs, while a curved
headboard will encourage you to communicate more freely. Decorate your
bedroom in soft, varying shades of blue if you'd like to be a demonstrative
lover. If you feel misunderstood by your mate, hang restful pieces of art on the
walls at varying heights. Soft, low lighting will add tenderness to a tense
relationship.

Garage

If your garage sits in the Relationship Area, make it calm, quiet, and restful.
Paint the walls sky blue, especially if you want to be less critical of your
partner. If you want to a deep bond with your mate, place two pieces of agate
(semiprecious stones) in a glass jar, and place the jar in the far right corner of
your garage, preferably on or near the floor. Hang a picture of a peaceful
water scene on the door leading into your home if you want a stable
relationship. If your love life has grown stale, put a picture of a waterfall or
fountain on this door. A black doormat will increase your self-esteem, making
you more attractive to suitors.

Chapter 9. Nurture Martha's Creativity and Children

Introduction

As someone with natal Uranus in Taurus, your creative style is studied,

disciplined, and stable. You want your creative output to be beautiful and
enriching. This includes your children, as well as your work. At times,
however, you are so concerned with security that you are afraid to put your
distinctive touch on your creative output. With the help of Feng Shui, you can
trust your instincts as an artist. Here are some confidence-building cures to
make your Creative Offspring Gua a unique expression of your own artistry.

Porch

If your porch is in the Creative Offspring Gua, make it uplifting and cheerful.
Wicker furniture covered with striped cushions can help you trust your creative
instincts. Paint the railings and floor dark green if you want to conceive a
child. Alternately, you can hang wooden wind chimes from your porch railing.
Tall plants will allow you to develop your imagination, while a bamboo roll-up
shades can encourage you to develop projects beyond the initial stage. Wall
sconces that cast light up toward the ceiling will give you more confidence,
both as a parent and as an artist. To eliminate self-critical thoughts, train
morning glories or some other climbing plant along the rails of your porch.

Bathroom

A Creative Offspring Gua that contains a bathroom should be refreshing and

revitalizing. Paint the walls lime or apple green if you'd like to have more
confidence in your creative abilities. Striped towels hung neatly on a standing
rack will enable you to follow your artistic instincts. To improve your skills as a
parent and an artist, choose a fibrous bath mat made of coir or sisal. A
brightly-lit bathroom will help you find more leisure time to pursue your favorite
activities. If you'd like to have a baby, choose honeysuckle-scented candles,
soaps, and lotions. If this scent doesn't please you, choose one that makes
you feel optimistic and expansive.

Hallway/Stairs

A hallway that falls in the Creative Offspring Gua should be free-spirited and
joyful. Paint or paper the walls a light shade of green, like mint or celadon.
This will bring joy into your heart, and make it easier to carry out creative
projects. A long, rectangular carpet runner covered with a vine pattern will
increase your chances for conceiving a baby. Keep your hallway well-lit with
walls sconces and lamps that cast light up toward the ceiling, particularly if
you're afraid to express your creative talent. A narrow console table covered
with a tall vase of fresh flowers can build your confidence as an artist. Be sure
to give the flowers fresh water at least three times a week. If you have a
stairway in this area of your home, paint the balusters (the posts that hold the
railing up) dark green, and then paint the banister a darker color. This will help
you grow and flourish as an artist. Line the wall with four tall pictures of nature
scenes. This will put you in touch with your creative instincts. If you'd like to
conceive a child, suspend a cylindrical light fixture above the stairwell, and
install bright full-spectrum bulbs.

Living Room

If your living room is in the Creative Offspring Gua, make it an exhilarating,

uplifting space. Choose tall furniture with straight backs if you'd like to get in
touch with your creative side. A four-seated sofa covered with green or striped
fabric will make you more confident about your artistic abilities. Light the room
with tall halogen lamps that illuminate the ceiling. This cure will make you a
more adventurous parent and artist. If you don't have enough time to do the
things you love, remove bulky pieces of furniture from your living room. The
more spacious this area is, the easier it will be to devote your energies to fun
activities. Sheer curtains are preferable to heavy drapes, particularly if you've
had difficulty conceiving a child. Artwork depicting trees, skyscrapers, and
bridges will draw lots of liberating energy into your Creative Offspring Gua.

Kitchen

A kitchen that rests in the Creative Offspring Gua should be spacious and
energizing. Choose a narrow rectangular table if you'd like to develop your
imagination. Surround the table with chairs that have tall, straight backs,
particularly if you want people to respect you as a creative force. Striped
wallpaper or moss green paint will strengthen your skills as both an artist and
a parent. Make sure to illuminate the food preparation area with bright lights,
or it may be difficult for you to find time for the activities you love. Thriving
plants are ideal for building your self-esteem as an artist. Keep pathways
clear of clutter in your kitchen, or you will feel inhibited from expressing your
creative side.

Dining Room

A dining room that falls in the Creative Offspring Gua should be stimulating
and expressive. Choose striped wallpaper or sage green paint if you'd like to
build your confidence as an artist. A rectangular table surrounded by tall
chairs will help you enjoy your free time more. Thriving plants will improve
your skills as a parent and an artist. If you have a hard time getting creative
projects off the ground, use wall sconces or halogen lamps that cast light up
toward the ceiling. If you'd like to have a baby, put a tall fountain in your dining
room, and make sure to switch it on at least three times a week. A narrow
china cabinet placed on the center right wall of your dining room can also do
the trick, provided you use the dinnerware it houses on a regular basis.

Home Office

If your Creative Offspring Gua contains a home office, make it intriguing and
inspiring. Keep the furniture in this room to a minimum, particularly if your
creativity gets bogged down by self-critical thoughts. A tall, narrow bookshelf
filled with volumes on your favorite subjects will draw positive energy into your
Creative Offspring Gua, but leave some empty space on each shelf for new
ideas. Choose a wooden desk with straight legs if you'd like to improve your
skills as an artist and a parent. A work chair with a tall back will make you a
more encouraging parent. Make sure that the chair sits on solid floor or a
plastic mat, particularly if you've had difficulty finding free time for your
hobbies. A fibrous sisal or coir rug will put you in touch with your creative side.
If you'd like to have a baby, keep a thriving plant on the right side of your
office. Paint your office a soothing shade of green like lichen or celadon to
build your self-esteem as a creative force.

Storage/Utility Area

A storage space that rests in the Creative Offspring Gua should be spacious
and roomy. Closets or drawers crammed with items will impede your creative
potential. Clear out enough room in your storage space so that one third is
empty. This is an especially powerful cure if you're trying to have a baby. If
you don't think that you're imaginative enough, put seven lavender sachets in
your storage space. This will draw uplifting energy into your Creative Offspring
Gua, and tempt you to spend more time on art projects. Get rid of any storage
items that are depressing or have sad memories attached, as these things will
prevent you from having enough leisure time. If you have a utility room in this
area, make it fresh and inviting. Paint the walls pea green, particularly if your
creativity has become stifled. Hang a tall, narrow picture of a woodland scene
across from your work area if you'd like to have a baby. Display this picture in
a wood frame with a natural finish to be more encouraging with your offspring.
A halogen lamp that casts light up toward the ceiling will make you more
optimistic and enthusiastic about your creative efforts.

Master Bedroom

Your bedroom should be uncluttered and refreshing if it falls in the Creative

Offspring Gua. Choose tall, leggy furniture to put you in touch with your
creative side. If you have difficulty finding time for the activities you love, paint
the room a fresh apple green or put up striped wallpaper. A tall four poster
bed with a rectangular headboard will alleviate depression and make it easier
for you to express your imagination. To improve your skills as an artist and a
parent, cover the floor with a fibrous sisal or coir area rug. Halogen lamps that
cast light up toward the ceiling will make you more bold and adventurous as
far as your creative work is concerned. If you want to have a baby, keep a tall
vase filled with seven fresh flowers in the center right portion of your room,
and be sure to replace the water every other day.

Children's Bedroom

A child's room that falls in the Creative Offspring Gua should be engaging and
responsive. Paint the walls a bright shade of green like chartreuse if you want
to fulfill your creative potential. Healthy plants will make you more confident
about your artistic abilities, while a narrow bookcase will encourage you to
draw upon your imagination on a regular basis. If you don't have a lot of time
for your favorite activities, put a gooseneck floor lamp with a bright bulb in this
room. Make sure to turn on the lamp for at least four hours every day to
activate this cure. To improve your skills as a parent and artist, cover the bed
with striped sheets or pillows. If you'd like to have a baby, hang a mobile with
seven dangles on the right side of the room, near the center of the wall.

Guest Bedroom

Your guest room should convey health and vitality if it rests in the Creative
Offspring Gua. Choose a high bed with tapered legs if you'd like to enhance
your creativity. Cover the windows with sheer curtains that allow sunlight to
filter into the room; otherwise, you will have difficulty finding time for the
activities you enjoy. If your guest room doesn't get a lot of use, fill it with
thriving green plants. This will generate inspirational energy throughout your
Creative Offspring Gua on a regular basis. To become a better artist and
parent, add a second box spring mattress to the bed. If you'd like to have a
baby, dab seven drops of lavender essential oil on a cotton ball, and then slip
the cotton ball into one of the pillowcases on the guest bed.

Garage

If your garage is in the Creative Offspring Gua, make it inspiring and

energizing. Paint the walls a vibrant green to enhance your imagination. A
fibrous door mat will encourage you to take artistic risks. Hang a picture of a
glittering cityscape on the door leading into your home if you'd like to grow as
an artist or parent. Bright, cheerful lights in your garage will build your
confidence as a creative force. If you want to conceive a child, place seven
pieces of quartz in a wooden bowl, and then place the bowl in the center right
portion of your garage.

Chapter 10. Expand Martha's Helpful People

Introduction

As someone with natal Neptune in Virgo, you want people to help you by
giving you practical advice and daily support. You're not the type to beat
around the bush when you're overwhelmed; asking for assistance comes
naturally to you. Sometimes, however, you have difficulty getting the
emotional support you need. Therefore, your Helpful People Gua can benefit
from some sensitizing cures that will help you make profound connections
with your nearest and dearest. Here are some suggestions for enhancing your
Helpful People Gua so that you can always feel supported.

Porch/Exterior Entrance

A porch that is quiet and restful will support your Helpful People Gua
beautifully. Black metal furniture with curved lines will make people to give
you the emotional support you need. Cover this furniture with plump cushions
in dark colors if you feel misunderstood. To carve out a valued space for
yourself within society, hang a blue sun catcher from your porch railing.
Painting the railings and floor of your porch gunmetal blue will draw
sensitizing energy into your Helpful People Gua on a regular basis. Keep the
lights low and flattering on your porch if you want to get in touch with your
emotional needs. If your entrance falls in the Helpful People Gua, pay special
attention to the front door. Paint the front door bright blue to attract helpful
people from all walks of life. Choose a mailbox with a rounded top, and make
sure that your name is clearly marked on it with attractive black lettering. This
will make folks more sensitive to your needs. Bracketing your exterior
entrance with hanging plants that have trailing vines will encourage you to
donate your time and energy to worthwhile causes, making you a valued
member of the community.

Hallway/Stairs

Your hallway should invite you to release any anxieties and relax once you've
returned home. Paintings that feature elegant nightscapes will create a gentle,
nurturing atmosphere that will draw sensitizing energy into your Helpful
People Gua. A long carpet runner covered with a wavy pattern will help folks
to see subtle nuances in your personality, thereby allowing them to appreciate
you more. Paint or paper the walls Dresden blue to become valued and
respected within your community. Recessed lights that operate on a dimmer
switch will help you appreciate your blessings, making you feel less
overburdened. If you have a staircase in this area, cover it with a dark carpet
that feels plush beneath your feet. This will prompt others to give you the
emotional support you need to be happy and productive. Hang a mobile with
six dangles over the center of the stairwell to cultivate more loving, helpful
relationships. If you'd like to become a valued member of your community, rub
six drops of jasmine essential oil onto the banister of your stairs.

Bathroom

If your bathroom sits in your Helpful People Gua, make it a place that feels
refreshing and replenishing. Dim lighting, heavy window treatments, and
dissimilar towels will allow you to decompress and relax, making people more
eager to help you. Paint your bathroom a rich color like royal blue, especially if
you have a hard time accessing your emotional needs. Decorative glass soap
dishes, lotion dispensers, and candle holders will draw sensitizing energy into
this area of your home. Lilac-scented candles and soaps can attract helpful
people, but use this scent only if it's appealing to you.

Living Room

A sofa that's low to the ground with a curved back can draw sensitizing energy
into your Helpful People Gua, making your relationships emotionally
supportive and satisfying. A glass-topped coffee table with curved legs can
also soften the energy here, as can well-upholstered chairs. Dark wood
furniture works best in this space, as it prompts you to form deep, meaningful
relationships based on bonds of mutual respect. If you want to become more
receptive to other people's assistance, put a group of decorative glass bottles
in the near right corner of your living room. Leaving these bottles empty will
attract help in a variety of forms. Artwork that depicts water scenes will make
you more flexible when it comes to offering assistance to others. Choose a
serene, restful shade of blue for your living room like cornflower to attract the
emotional support you need.

Kitchen

If your kitchen sits in your Helpful People Gua, make it a sociable, peaceful
room. An oval table with curved legs can soften the energy here, encouraging
loving conversations. A hanging display of shiny pots and pans can make you
more aware of the resources you have, prompting you to call on friends and
family when you need them. An overhead light that operates on a dimmer
switch will help you to draw inward, helping you to understand your emotional
needs. Bright blue with touches of creamy white is an ideal color scheme for a
kitchen that's in the Helpful People Gua, as it prompts folks to be more giving
and generous toward one another.

Dining Room

Your dining room's ambiance should be physically, emotionally, and spiritually

nourishing. If you have a tendency to ignore your emotional needs, paint the
room a handsome Prussian blue. An oval dining room table covered with a
long linen tablecloth and crystal candlesticks will prompt you to cultivate
friendships with caring, generous people. Low, cushioned chairs with rounded
backs awaken your own generous instincts, prompting you to lend your time
and energy to worthwhile causes. Playing soft music while you dine will
enhance your Helpful People Gua beautifully. Be sure to use your dining room
at least three times a week, particularly if you feel alone or neglected.

Home Office

A contemplative, peaceful home office will draw sensitizing energy into your
Helpful People Gua. Choose a glass-topped desk with curved, metal legs if
you'd like folks to be more supportive of your emotional needs. A work chair
that rests on wheels will make you more flexible about offering help to friends,
neighbors, and relatives. Choose a dark wall-to-wall carpet if you are
frequently overwhelmed. Swag curtains or drapes that are hung in a cascade
pattern will make it easier for you to accept help from outside sources. Paint
the walls of your home office forget-me-not blue if you feel neglected or
misunderstood.

Storage/Utility Area

If you have a storage area in your Helpful People Gua, make it as spacious
and orderly as possible. Otherwise, it will be impossible for you to find the
help you need when you're overworked. If you feel weighed down with
unwanted chores and responsibilities, remove any mundane items like
cleaning supplies from your storage space. Storing fun items like photo
albums, sports equipment, and art supplies in this space will help you find
support for your favorite activities. Beware of keeping unwanted gifts in this
space, or it will be hard for you to find a societal position where you feel
valued and occupied. Putting six juniper sachets in this storage space will
relieve you of odious burdens. If you have a utility room in this space, make it
soothing and tranquil. Paint the walls lovely shade of periwinkle blue, which
will attract helpful people of all varieties. If you feel as though you're stuck in a
rut, hang a picture of a waterfall across from your work area. This will draw
people into your life that will enact positive changes.

Master Bedroom

If your bedroom is in the Helpful People Gua, paint it an inspiring, serene

shade of blue so you will be more receptive to assistance in all forms. Silky or
satiny bed coverings can put you in touch with your emotional needs. A
curved headboard will prompt you to form relationships with caring, concerned
people who are eager to help. If you'd like to find a way to be useful to others,
opt for a plush wall-to-wall carpet that feels luxurious beneath your feet.
Bracket your bed with circular night tables, or your relationships will become
stale and uninspiring. Heavy drapes will create a feeling of intimacy among
friends, neighbors, and relative, making you feel more supported and loved.

Children's Bedroom

A child's room that encourages imagination, contemplation, and inner peace is

ideal for your Helpful Gua. A round work table will encourage you to form
relationships with nurturing people. Hang a mirror at a height that reflects your
child's entire face if you want to find work that makes you feel useful and
wanted. An uplifting shade of Caribbean blue will make you feel less self-
conscious about expressing your needs. If you feel overburdened, affix
luminous stars to the ceiling. This will prompt you to ask for help when you
need it, rather than assuming the entire weight of the world on your shoulders.

Guest Bedroom

It's important for you to create a hospitable, warm environment if your guest
room sits in your Helpful People Gua. If you feel alone and neglected, choose
a sleigh bed with a soft mattress. Put a small stereo with a variety of relaxing
CDs in your guest room if your relationships are fraught with tension and
anger. Play a relaxing piece of music in your guest room at least three times a
week if this space doesn't get a lot of use; otherwise, it will be difficult to find
the help you need. Heavy drapes made of rich material will cultivate loving
relationships with generous people. If you'd like to find work that makes you
feel useful and valued, hang a flourishing plant with trailing vines in the near
right corner of your guest room.

Garage

If your garage rests in your Helpful People Gua, you need to keep the energy
in this space as gentle and peaceful as possible. Paint the walls an uplifting
robin's egg blue to attract nurturing people into your social circle. If you'd like
to occupy a position in society that makes you feel useful and valued, hang a
picture of a winding river on the door that leads into your home. A black door
mat can help you form profound emotional connections with your friends,
relatives, and neighbors. If you often feel alone or neglected, place six pieces
of turquoise in a glass dish, and then place the dish in the near right corner of
your garage.

Chapter 11. Support and Enhance Martha's Health

Introduction

As someone with natal Mars in Aries, you are an active person filled with
restless energy. Plenty of exercise will give you a welcome outlet for pent-up
frustration. A love of speed may draw you to activities like running, bike-riding,
and basketball. If you don't enjoy exercise, perform some adjustments to the
Health Gua of your home and work space. Here are some suggestions that
will allow you to enjoy optimum health.

Courtyard

If you have a courtyard in the center of your home, you have an opportunity to
enjoy excellent health. Keep this area as bright, open, and spacious as
possible. Thriving geraniums or red rose bushes will keep you active, fit, and
balanced. Bright lights will encourage you to vary your exercise routine so that
you won't get bored. Colorful lawn furniture in cheerful hues like red, orange,
and purple will keep your spirits high, and allow you to fight depression. Trim
plants back if they start getting wild; otherwise, you could feel restless and
distracted.

Hallway/Stairs

A hallway that sits in your Health Gua should be vibrant and exciting. A long
red carpet, bright overhead lights, and geometric-style artwork will encourage
you to stay fit and trim. Make the lighting in your hallway as attractive as
possible. Cover an ugly fixture with a beautiful red paper Chinese lantern. If
you're combating persistent health problems, consider installing a skylight. If
your hallway is very narrow, paint the walls a vibrant color like red, orange, or
purple, and keep the ceiling white. This will alleviate stress. A staircase in
your Health Gua should be treated with care. Cover the stairs with a red or
highly-patterned carpet, and place a heavy object, like a tall plant in a terra
cotta pot, and the bottom of the staircase. This will keep your health in
balance. Hang a brightly colored mobile at the top of the staircase. This cure
will help you fend off depression.

Bathroom

If your bathroom rests in the Health Gua, place a large, vertical mirror over the
sink. Wall sconces or lamps that throw light up toward the ceiling will help you
maintain your naturally high energy level. If you feel tired or lethargic, paint
the walls a vibrant color like red, orange, or hot pink. To combat stress, add
plants with trailing vines in chunky blue ceramic pots. Sandalwood-scented
soaps, lotions, and candles can draw therapeutic energy into your Health
Gua, but use this scent only if it pleases you.

Living Room

A living room that is cheerful and spirited is ideal for your Health Gua. Choose
furniture that is tall and narrow if you want to maintain a high energy level.
Sofas and chairs with spindly legs are preferable to ones that sit flat on the
floor. Vibrant, energetic patterns work well in this space, especially if you want
to get more exercise. A faux-fur blanket or throw pillows can help you
withstand stress. Arrange artwork in threes if you feel sluggish or tired. A
three-sided seating arrangement that gives guests a clear view of the door will
welcome therapeutic energy into your Health Gua. Keep healthy snacks like
nuts and dried fruit on a high, rectangular coffee table, particularly if you suffer
from burnout.

Kitchen

Your kitchen should be clean, tidy, and efficient if it sits in your Health Gua.
Keep the counters clear for food preparation, and store clunky, cumbersome
equipment in cabinets and cupboards. If you have too much kitchen
equipment, donate items that you don't use, and keep rarely-used appliances
in storage. The more freedom of movement you have in your kitchen, the
healthier you will be. Keep frequently used utensils within arm's reach of your
cooking area. A rectangular kitchen table with a natural wood finish will keep
your spirits high, as will chairs that have tall, square backs. If you feel sluggish
or tired, add a red checked tablecloth, napkins, or dish towels to your kitchen.
To combat stress, place a square dark throw rug near the sink.

Dining Room
A sociable, upbeat dining room will draw vibrant energy into your Health Gua.
A wildly patterned Oriental rug with bright splashes of red or orange will fuel a
love of exercise. A three-pronged candelabrum with red candles can help
combat depression. If you feel stressed, limit the amount of furniture in your
dining room to a long, rectangular dining table and tall, upright chairs with
narrow legs. If you want a sideboard in your dining room, let it be a long,
narrow console table instead of one with a heavy base or chunky legs. To
combat fatigue, play free-flowing music like jazz or baroque music while you
eat. Make sure to eat in your dining room at least three times a week,
especially if your health is suffering.

Home Office

If your home office is in your Health Gua, make it an energetic, enthusiastic

space. Keep your office as spacious as possible. A simple wooden desk with
narrow, tapered legs will fill you with brisk energy. Ideally, the floor of your
office should be kept bare and well-polished. If that's not possible, cover the
floor with a wildly-patterned red or orange rug. Paint the walls a calming,
neutral color like tan, taupe, or beige. Change the artwork on the walls
regularly, and make sure the pictures are fun and dynamic. Somber portraits
and still life paintings should be kept out of this space, or you could fall victim
to depression. A variety of bright light sources will keep you energetic and
upbeat. Keep a tall halogen lamp in one corner that casts light up towards the
ceiling, and a powerful table lamp on your desk. A bright red lamp shade will
make you energetic and enthusiastic about maintaining your health.

Storage/Utility Area

A storage space that sits in your Health Gua should be brightly lit and
spacious. Hang small mirrors on all four sides of the room or closet; this will
keep the energy flowing throughout this stagnant space. Don't crowd items on
the floor. Install shelves, and make sure there is plenty of space for additional
items. A jam-packed storage space will compromise your health. Be sure to
clear any broken items out of this space, especially if you are accident prone.
To improve your overall health, place five red birthday candles in a box, and
then keep the box in your storage space. If you have a utility room in your
Health Gua, paint it a whimsical color like red, orange, or purple. This will
make you feel more enthusiastic and responsive about exercise. Hang a
picture of a sleek, healthy animal across from your work space if you want to
improve your well-being.

Master Bedroom

If your bedroom is in the Health Gua, paint the walls a warm but restful color
like apricot, peach, or coral. This will help you wake up refreshed after a good
night's sleep. Drape the bed with a mosquito net if you want to conserve your
energy for worthwhile projects. If this idea doesn't appeal to you, try a metal
bed frame, which will allow you to recharge your batteries after a long day's
work. Don't ever store items beneath your bed, or your energy will stagnate.
Never place your mattress directly on the floor, particularly if you have a
weight problem. Keep bright table lamps on either side of the bed, especially if
you suffer from mysterious ailments. Animal prints on your sheets, pillows, or
comforter will boost your energy level considerably. If such a design doesn't
appeal to you, try bed linens with a wild, random pattern instead of solids or
stripes.

Children's Bedroom

A child's bedroom that sits in the Health Gua should be playful and cheery. A
bed with a rectangular headboard will encourage both you and your child to
maintain an active lifestyle. Paint the walls a neutral color like beige, brown, or
adobe, and then add bright accents of red, orange, or purple in the curtains,
bedspread, or pillows. Such a color scheme will sustain your energy level so
you won't feel burned out by midday. Don't crowd this bedroom with furniture.
Install height-appropriate shelves for storage, and leave a clear space on the
rug to encourage play. This will make your exercise routine seem more like
fun and less like work. Hang your child's artwork on the walls if you'd like to
release any sad feelings or depression.

Guest Bedroom

A Health Gua that contains a guest room should be airy and spacious. Tall
furniture with narrow, tapered legs will keep vitalizing energy flowing
throughout your Health Gua; avoid low, heavy pieces, especially if you feel
sluggish or tired. If this room doesn't have any windows, cover the walls with
pictures of sunny outdoor scenes. If your guest room is very small, paint the
walls a sherbet color like raspberry or lime. This will make you feel like you
have more room to express yourself, thereby alleviating stress. If you don't
use your guest room very much, keep an oscillating fan on for at least an hour
each day. Otherwise, you may feel sluggish or tired.
Increase Your Wealth Using Feng Shui
.Design tips using the ancient art of feng shui can improve income

Whether you want to go on a luxurious vacation or you need to buy braces for your daughter,
everyone simply wants more money. Here are some fast, easy ways to help you get a
.financial foot-hold using feng shui

First, find the southeast portion of your house; this is the wealth sector of your home. Get out
a compass to help you find this corner. (Note: If you don’t have a compass it’s important to
buy one. A decent compass only costs a few dollars and you can buy them wherever camping
supplies or sporting goods can be found.) What’s in this part of your house? If it is your
bedroom, dining room, living room, or study, you’re in luck. If it is a bathroom, garage, or
.kitchen, then we’ve got work to do

IF THE SE CORNER OF YOUR HOME IS YOUR LIVING ROOM, you need a good, healthy
green plant in this room. If you have a brown thumb, then use a silk plant. Something tall and
leafy, such as a ficus tree, is a good idea. Just make sure the plant is healthy and lush and
that it stays that way. Weak, thin, spindly plants will do nothing to enhance the wealth area of
.your home. So, if your plants look pitiful, throw them out and buy new ones

IF YOUR WEALTH CORNER IS YOUR BEDROOM OR BATHROOM don’t place any plants
or water features or elements here. If the SE corner of your home is a bathroom, treat it the
way you should always treat bathrooms (according to feng shui, that is), and keep the toilet lid
and seat down (always), and keep the door closed. In this instance, you should also put a
small round mirror on the outside of the bathroom door and a mirror hung so that as soon as
you enter this bathroom, you can see yourself. Also, if you can, place a small round mirror on
the ceiling over the toilet. You can purchase small round mirrors for about a dollar or so at
.craft and hobby stores

You can also add red here to help reduce the water, or yin, energy. Add red in the form of red
paint on the walls, red pictures on the walls, or candles. If you just hate the color red, then put
a large boulder or stone by the toilet to "weigh" down the toilet’s effect here in your wealth
.corner

IF YOUR WEALTH CORNER IS IN THE KITCHEN, be sure to keep the kitchen very clean.
You can also put a beautiful lush plant on the counter as well as a bowl brimming with fruit,
which is a symbol of abundance. Clear, glass canisters filled with rice, cookies, or other foods
.is also a nice touch in this area and symbolizes abundance

IF YOUR WEALTH CORNER IS IN THE GARAGE make sure the garage is clean and clutter-
free. This is especially important, because garages often are the repositories for all the junk
we don’t want to keep in the house. Clear out and organize as best as possible. Try to clean
out and streamline enough to park both cars in the garage (if you have a two cars and a two-
car garage) and use the garage as it was intended: as a place to park cars. Add some healthy
.plants to either side of the garage that you see as you drive in

IF YOUR SE SECTOR IS AT THE FRONT DOOR, an attractive plant is always nice here, as
is a water fountain or fish tank. A fish tank needn’t be elaborate. Or, you can place a fountain
here. Figurines of turtles, fish, or frogs are excellent choices in this location. Placing a frog in
.a dish of coins, with the frog facing the door, is a good idea as it symbolizes a money bag

THE FRONT DOOR IS AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT FOR WEALTH, so try painting your door
an auspicious color. If your door faces SE, consider painting it purple or a shade of purple.
You can also paint it a rich green color. If it faces north, paint it black. I did this once to
enhance my career and within hours of painting it black, my phone rang off the hook! If your
.door faces south, paint the door red to enhance your reputation and renown
Make sure your front door is always clear and unobstructed. It should also be clean and
welcoming. Use this door yourself as often as possible and as your main entrance. We often
use main entrances for guests and don’t use them ourselves. As the homeowner, we should
treat ourselves the better than even our guests and that includes making a nice entrance for
.ourselves

If you have a beautiful chandelier or light fixture here, be sure to keep it lit. If you use another
entrance as your main entrance, then treat it like a front door and make it as attractive as
possible. This is because the main entrance or front door represents your career – and that’s
what brings money to us – as well as career opportunities. What does your front door area
look like? Is it neat and tidy? Is it attractive and welcoming or is it narrow, small and pinched?
Take a good look at it to see what you can do to make it as nice and as welcoming and easy
.to get into as possible

Now, when you come into your house, what do you see? Is it your dining room? If so, place a
screen or a curtain or something there to block the view. If you can see your dining room or a
toilet from the front door, your wealth is draining away. Maybe you have a mirror in the foyer.
If so, move it. It’s a common practice to put a mirror in the foyer, but this symbolically pushes
the wealth and opportunities that come through the front door right back out; this is especially
true if you have a mirror directly opposite the front door or if the front door is reflected in the
.mirror

Instead, place a beautiful picture here. If you face a wall when you come in the door, place a
picture of a landscape here so that you are symbolically looking into the distance instead of
being pushed back out. A friend came to me because she had no luck selling her home.
When I visited her house, I noticed she had a mirror facing the front door that pushed
everyone who came to see the home right back out again. I suggested she put the mirror over
her fireplace and the landscape picture over her fireplace at the front door -- and VOILA! --
.she had a buyer

Lastly, can you see from your front door to the back of the house? If you have windows or a
door that allows you to see to the back of the house, you are losing money. Opportunity might
come to you, but then it is quickly lost. Or, if your back door lines up directly with the front
door, you have a rush of energy known as a "poison arrow." These are very bad for the
direction that the door faces. Place a round table or a screen or something to block the view
.and the energy moving straight from the front door to the back

FUN PROJECT FOR ENHANCING PROSPERITY

If you want to improve prosperity and have a fun weekend project, build a fountain in the SE
corner of your yard, and make it so that the fountain appears to flow toward the house. This
symbolically moves the wealth toward the house. Make sure the water is kept full, clean and
.clear at all times

Feng shui decorating to encourage prosperity
Feng Shui decorating techniques can help encourage
prosperity and financial success in your life and home.
Like most things, achieving financial success takes patience and hard work. It
doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t happen without some effort, but
according to the principles of Feng Shui it may be more likely to happen if
you arrange your home or office in a way designed to attract wealth.

Feng Shui, or the art of object placement, is an ancient Chinese method used
to design and decorate buildings and homes. According to this method,
electromagnetic energy, also called chi, flows throughout all spaces and
influences everything from health to happiness to fortune. By using certain
colors or arranging rooms in a specific way, it is believed you can increase
your chances of being happy, healthy and prosperous. The following tips
won’t ensure sudden wealth, but they may improve your luck and give you a
better chance of finding success.

Clear out the clutter

This is the first, and most important, step in any Feng Shui undertaking. It is
absolutely essential for attracting any kind of good fortune, be it financial,
emotional or spiritual. According to Chinese tradition, the more possessions a
person owns, the more problems they will have. When unneeded objects take
over a room, they act as roadblocks, preventing good fortune from entering a
person’s life. This is especially true if the items are damaged, useless or
outdated. In this case, the objects can have a negative effect on several
aspects of a person’s life, causing these areas to become “damaged” as well.
By getting rid of things that are no longer needed or useful, you can open up
space in your life for what you do need, and this includes prosperity. This also
has a practical application, because the less cluttered your home or
workspace is, the more focused and productive you’ll be. And this in itself may
result in a significant boost to your income.

Enhance the southeast corner of your home

The southeast part of a building or room is called the wealth corner, and is
seen as a symbol of affluence and prosperity. It is believed that enhancing
this part of your home can increase your odds of attaining financial success.
Using the color green in this area is an especially effective way to boost your
finances, because green is the color associated with the southeast, and in
traditional Feng Shui it also represents perseverance, patience and hard
work. In addition, it is also the color of spring--a time of rebirth and renewal.
As such, it may give new life to monetary matters, and cause your finances to
grow. Keeping the area well lit can also enhance your earning power, by
symbolically “shining a light” on your financial picture. This can activate your
wealth corner, bringing new financial opportunities into your life. Placing
green plants in the wealth corner also emphasizes monetary gain. The plants
symbolize the wood element, and are representations of your financial state,
so keeping them healthy is vital to ensuring financial security. The best
choice is the jade plant, also called the money plant, because it symbolizes
wealth. However, avoid plants with sharp leaves or thorns, such as cacti.

Use lucky symbols

Placing symbols of wealth, good fortune and luck around your home can also
increase your odds for prosperity. For example, a penny placed underneath
the welcome mat is thought to attract wealth by sending out the message that
the home’s occupants are “welcoming” of financial gain. A mirror placed on a
dining room wall so that it reflects the food is another powerful symbol,
representing the “doubling” of one’s material wealth. Other common symbols
of financial luck include:

The three-legged toad: This is one of the most popular symbols of prosperity,
and can be placed in any room of the house. For the best chance of financial
gain, place nine of these toads throughout the living room, each one bearing
a Chinese coin in its mouth and resting on top of a dollar bill.

Prosperity and abundance coins: Round with a square hole in the center,
these coins represent the union of heaven and earth. The yang side, which
features four Chinese characters, should be visible. To attract wealth into your
home, tie nine of the coins together with red cord and hang them above your
front door. Because red is also a potent wealth symbol, these two things in
combination will increase financial luck and attract prosperity.

Use water to attract wealth

In Feng Shui, water is a powerful symbol of wealth, and incorporating it into

your decorating scheme may increase your finances. A home’s front
entrance is important in Feng Shui, because it is how chi enters. By adding a
water fountain to your front yard, you tell the universe you’re open to
receiving prosperity. One note: The water should always be directed towards
the house, if you’re hoping to attract wealth. If the water is directed away from
the home, it symbolizes the loss of wealth, and may actually result in
increased financial difficulties.

Make your office work for you

Using the principles of Feng Shui on your desk, be it in a workplace or a home

office, is a powerful way to attract prosperity. By using a little care in how you
arrange the objects on your desk, you may be able to attract more business,
and therefore more money. The west part of the desk is associated with
finances, and so is an ideal place for cash, checks and anything else related
to money. To further emphasize financial prosperity, place the desk in the
wealth corner of the room. You can also place a crystal bowl, plant, small
water fountain or expensive piece of art on the wealth corner of the desk,
because these objects represent, and therefore attract, prosperity. And
because the color red is associated with wealth, bright red objects also
emphasize financial success, and placing them in the upper left-hand corner
of a home office may increase financial luck.

Feng Shui is designed to improve all of aspects of life, from health to

relationships to finances. While the principles of Feng Shui don’t guarantee
instant financial success, they can help create an atmosphere conducive to
achieving prosperity. Patience and hard work will still be required, but the
process may be quicker and easier, and the rewards may be greater than
ever imagined.
