Purpose This Manual provides procedures and guidelines that support the
version update of the ZXMSG 5200 Multiplex Service Gateway.
Intended This document is intended for engineers and technicians who per-

Upgrading BOOT Program


Short Description Perform this procedure to upgrade BOOT program to fulfill the sys-
tem initialization and loading of the running version.
Prerequisite Make sure that GIS card is plugged-in ZXMSG 5200(V3.0)and
working normally.
Context � The BOOT programs of GIS card, MPRB card and subscriber
cards can be transferred by ALL07 or CLI.
� The BOOT program of CNIC only can be transferred by ALL07 .
� The BOOT files of master shelf include: ICSL2.bt, CNIC.bt
and MPRB.bt.
� The BOOT file of slave shelf is ICSL2.bt.
To upgrade BOOT program, perform the following steps:
Steps 1. Connect to ZXMSG 5200(V3.0)in HyperTerminal mode. The
system prompts Press ENTER key to stop auto-boot….
2. Press Enter key. BOOT command line interface appears. In
the BOOT mode, type c to modify each BOOT parameter.

Note:
IP address of the FTP server and the equipment IP address
are in the same network segment. The account and password
must be consistent with the configuration on the FTP server.

3. Copy the version file ( ICSL2.bt ) to the default directory of


the FTP server.
4. Run the FTP server software to ensure the normal connection
between the MSG 5200 and the FTP server. If the user cannot
ping MSG 5200 in the BOOT mode, this is normal.
5. Execute update command to download and update the BOOT
version file.

After the file to be transferred is verified, the system starts to


transfer the version file. The HyperTerminal interface dis-
plays the transmission progress. After the file is transferred,
done is displayed on the HyperTerminal. The size of the ver-
sion file is displayed.
6. Execute reboot command to restart ZXMSG 5200(V3.0)
ZXAN(version)#exit
ZXAN#reboot
END OF STEPS.

Result BOOT program is upgraded successfully.

Upgrading GIS Card Version


Short Description Perform this procedure to upgrade GIS card version files in BOOT
mode.
Prerequisite � Make sure that GIS card is plugged-in slot 9 and ZXMSG
5200(V3.0) is working normally.
� Make sure to pull-out GIS card from slot 10.
� Connect a computer with the front panel network interface of
GIS card using crossover cables.

� Connect the COM port of the computer with the console port
of the backplane in master shelf through console cables.
� Start wftpd32 program and add a user. The directory is where
the version files are saved.
Context Table 1 lists all version files.

To upgrade GIS card version, perform the following steps:


Steps 1. Press Enter key to enter BOOT mode.

3. Execute format command to format the flash.


4. Execute downver command to download version files.
i. Execute downver ICSL2.MVR command to transfer
ICSL2.MVR to flash.
ii. Execute downver ICS.FW command to transfer ICS.FW to
flash.
iii. (Optional) Execute downver ICSl2.bt command to trans-
fer ICSl2.bt to flash. Execute update icsl2.bt to upgrade
BOOT.
5. Execute download command to transfer license.dat and li-
censereadme.zte to flash.
6. Execute run command to run or reset the system.
END OF STEPS.

Result GIS card version is upgraded successfully. Execute dir command


to view the files in GIS card.
Postrequisite Power OFF and pull-out the GIS card in slot 9. Plug-in the GIS card
in slot 10 to upgrade its GIS version.

Upgrading MPRB Card or


Subscriber Card BOOT
Program
Short Description Perform this procedure to upgrade MPRB card or subscriber card
BOOT program.
Prerequisite � Make sure that GISR and MPRB cards are plugged-in ZXMSG
5200(V3.0)and working normally.
� In-band network management or out-of band network man-
agement is working normally.
� BOOT program is transferred to flash.
� Log-in ZXMSG 5200 through console or Telnet.
Context The BOOT version file of MPRB is MPRB.bt.
To upgrade MPRB card BOOT program, perform the following
steps:
Steps 1. Execute version command to enter version mode.
ZXAN#version
ZXAN(version)#

2. Execute update-boot command to upgrade the BOOT of the


rack, shelf and slot.
ZXAN(version)#update-boot rackno 1
shelfno 1 slotno 5 local
Confirm to update boot? [yes/no]:y
ZXAN(version)#

3. Execute reboot command to reset ZXMSG 5200.


ZXAN(version)#exit
ZXAN#reboot

END OF STEPS.

Result MPRB card BOOT program is upgraded successfully. Execute show


version-save command to view the results.

Upgrading MPRB Card or


Subscriber Card Version
Short Description Perform this procedure to upgrade MPRB card or subscriber card
version.
Prerequisite � Make sure that GISR card is plugged-in ZXMSG 5200(V3.0)and
working normally.
� In-band network management or out-of band network man-
agement is working normally.
� The BOOT program is transferred to flash.
� Log-in ZXMSG 5200 through console or Telnet.
Context To upgrade MPRB card version or subscriber card version, perform
the following steps:
Steps 1. Execute version command to enter version mode.
ZXAN#version
ZXAN(version)#

2. Execute update-version command to upgrade service card


version.
ZXAN(version)#update-version rackno 1
shelfno 1 slotno 5 local

Note:
Update the version of each card if necessary.

3. Execute reboot command to reset ZXMSG 5200.

Appendix A

FTP Server

Table of Contents:

FTP Server
Short Description Perform this procedure to configure the FTP (WFTP) server.
Prerequisite Make sure an FTP application is running.
Context To configure the FTP server, perform the following steps:
Steps 1. Run the FTP server and select Security > Users/Rights to
enter an interface as shown Figure 1

2. To add a new user click New User to enter an interface as


shown in Figure 2.

3. Enter the User Name of the user. Click OK. Change Password
interface appears as shown in FTP Server.

4. Enter the New Password and Verify Password for the new
user. Click OK to change a password.
5. In Home Directory, configure the file path. In the example,
configure it to C:\MSG5200. The user must put the version file
under this directory. The directory is shown in Figure 4.

Appendix A FTP Server

i. Click Rights to configure the read/write rights of files. In


general, select all of them, as shown in Figure 4.
ii. Click Done to save the entire configuration.
6. To see the download progress and status, enable Logging func-
tion for FTP server. Select Logging > LOG Optionsto enter
an interface as shown in .

7. In the Logging Options interface, select Enable Logging to


enable the logging function. The user can see the file trans-
mission progress during the version upgrade.
After configuring the parameters, make sure that the version
files to be transferred are stored in the specified directory.

Result FTP server parameters are configured successfully.
