The Axis Powers
The Axis Powers is a term for the nations who opposed to the Allies in World
War II.

The three major Axis powers, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and the Japanese
empire who referred to themselves as the "Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis."
How the alliance began

The alliance began with the union of Italy and


Germany,

Thanks to the relation between Mussolini and Hitler.

After some years Japan decided to enter in the Axis,


and they brought an incredible army,

from there on lots of other small countries decided to


enter in the axis, because they were too weak to go
against them.

(finland, romania, bulgaria… etc.)


Italy
● Benito Mussolini → supreme dictator “Duce”
○ founded FASCISM: 1 leader + party that has total power
○ he was an inspiration for Hitler
● Vittorio Emanuele III → king of Italy
○ head of italian army
○ did whatever mussolini told him
● Ugo Cavallari → commander of the royal army in WWII
Japan

● Hideki Tojo → major supporter of the Tripartite pact


● Isoroku Yamamoto → best war strategist and commander of the armed forces
○ commander of Japan Navy
○ leader in the attack of Pearl Harbor
● Osami Nagano → leader in Pearl Harbor, fleet admiral in the Navy
Germany
Germany was the main country of the Axis, because it was both the stronger and the bigger.

Germany was focused on what they wanted to do. They wanted to govern first all Europe than all
the world.

Heinrich Himmler → second commander after Hitler

Herman Goering → commander of Luftwaffe

Erwin Rommel → commanded the army in Africa, then the army during the invasion of Normandy

Hitler

○ → Chancellor of Germany (1933)


○ → Fuhrer (1934)
○ → Hated Jewish people and also communists
○ → He wanted to purge weak people from Germany and have control over Europe
