Problem Statement?

The Electrical Fittings, Plugs & receptacles, MCB distribution box inside one distribution panel
originally used by OEM Drillmec for DM workover rigs were not suitable for use in hazardous areas.
They were not having explosion proof type certificates as per IS/IEC 60079 standards.
The Existing System
Oil India Limited procured Five numbers of DM Workover back in 2017-18. For Area Lighting &
Derrick floor power in these rigs, there was an Electrical Distribution panel near Substructure.
However, the Electrical Fittings, Plugs & receptacles, MCB distribution box originally used by OEM
inside this panel were not suitable for use in hazardous areas as they were not having explosion proof
type certificates as per IS/IEC 60079 standards. Also, the statutory bodies made the use of certified
equipment mandatory during their safety inspections.

How have we solved the problem?

Our team designed a distribution panel with existing stock of Explosion proof plugs& receptacles, Ex-
d junction boxes and Ex-d switches. Now, the Electrical Distribution panel can be safely used inside
Zone1/Zone2 hazardous areas near substructure. All the electrical items used inside the panels are in
compliances with IS/IEC 60079 standards and have requisite certificates for the same.
The visible benefit of our system has been safety. Moreover, it has been able to save
approximately XXX of rupees by making the Electrical Distribution panel fully functional & safe
without any additional cost to the company. The Electrical Distribution panel that have been made
functional using our designed system has been successfully in use till date.
