Helping kids to get recruited

From Dcohio:
I can only tell you what we do:

First, there are 4 recruiting services here in Ohio that I use. They are free for us and kids.

2nd thing - I send out recruit packs to 86 or so schools. Being in the midwest I keep it realistic, I'm not
sending film to USC or Florida...well, I have on occasion. Our main focus is on mid-western schools. Big
10, MAC, Big East, Conference USA. There are quite a few other schools I send film to, Wyoming,
Colorado (and State), etc.
Also send packets to almost all HBC's. (historically black colleges)
Also send packets to quite a few...what I would deem quality D2 and 1-AA schools.

The packets contain:

A roster
A prospect sheet
-prospect sheet lists student
--name
--address
--phone (home and cell)
--Position
--measurables
--GPA
--class rank
--ACT score
--Birthdate
DVD film - the DVD has every player on it that has told me they want to play college football and who had
enough plays to make up a high light film (have to have 10 plays)
- Each class has it's own menu
- Every class is represented if we had impact players in that class. For example, this year I had 2
freshmen and 2 sophomores on the disc. (I believe the one freshman will be our next big time D1
recruit...he more than jumps off film).

So if a coach wants to just check out the class of 2009, they hit that menu link, they can select the player,
and play that video. Same with the Class of 2010 or 2011.

I did some research on this before I use to do individual films...that cost me a truck load of money on
DVDs, not to mention time. I spoke to all the coaches who come through the school and just asked them,
they said all players on one disc was great and saved them a lot of time because they had one disc, one
school, instead of 8 discs one school. Ohio State, Indiana, Miami, Cincinnati, Purdue, Pitt, Michigan,
Youngstown St., Ball State, BG, Toledo, Ashland all said "one disc is great". So that's what I went with.

I think it is important for the colleges to have the kid's mailing address. So they send them all that BS
mailer stuff directly and I don't have to hand it all out.

ANYWAY....those are the recruit packs that get mailed.

I mail them on mondays and I send them out in flights (just because the secretary gets upset if I bring
down 80+ envelops to send out) So I send them out in flights. I send them on a Monday, the following
Monday I send out a new batch and I call all the schools from the first batch. I always make sure to talk to
whom ever I already mailed them to make sure THEY have received them.

In the spring...like a few weeks ago, me and another coach took 17 kids up to the NIKE combine. They
ran, their times and stuff are posted, great, wonderful, whatever....not a big fan of the combines but they
do give unbiased results.

In June, a few of us will be taking a group of kids to a bunch of one day camps around the area. I think
we are attending 9 of them. $40 or so bucks a pop (except Northwestern...they are $85!!!!), not all kids
are going to all of them. (one of our kid's father's owns a car dealership, so he gives us vehicles to drive
and he pays for the gas).

I think we go pretty far for our kids, I never tell a kid he can't play somewhere, if asked I will give him my
honest opinion, but it is not for me to say who can and can't play at Ohio State, that is for Ohio State to
say.

I think, it is important for the HS coach to talk to and develop a decent relationship with the college
coaches. That is a 2 way relationship. They are wanting players and who knows, sometime I may be
wanting tickets, I may want to come in and talk to their coaches about what ever, I may just want to
come and watch practice.

I am always honest with the college coaches, I do not BS them one little bit. I do not skew heights,
weights, or any other measurable. If they ask me about a kid I give them 100% balls on my assessment
and our kids know I don't BS.

But that's what we do. I don't know how good or bad what we do is, PM me and I'll give you my mailing
list and a link so you can check out the film I make, one of the services we use posts it online, so I also
send out a BOAT LOAD of emails to college coaches with links to players on it. I think we are pretty
thorough.

Our registrar is also a football groupie...we give her free T-shirts, free passes to games, etc. If I need a
transcript sent, it is sent within a 1/2 hour of me sending her the email. If I want grade cards for our
players....same day if I email her in the morning. Next day if I email her in the afternoon. She is
awesome, she's on the ball. I LOVE HER!! (not literally...my wife frowns on that
