Speaking of today's generation, almost most people like to have a healthy life,
starting with a responsible diet, getting up early, doing exercise routines,
hydrating well, and being orderly with their things. On the other hand, there are
people who do not like that side of life, suffice it to say that some of them do not
even get to breakfast, perhaps because they are already badly used to it or
because they get up too late and time passes, they spend all day watching
television or playing on the cell phone, instead of that time investing in something
good for your health, such as exercising. Well, finally, let's propose to always be
active, forget bad habits and do it for our own health.

1. Answer the following questions:
• What is a habit?
A habit is an action that you do daily, it could be repeated times a day or a week.
A habit is the result of an action that we frequently repeat automatically.
• What makes or breaks a habit?
Breaking unhealthy habits requires a process, but most of all it requires the right
strategy. A habit is formed because of a frequently repeated action that is
reinforced with a positive or negative consequence.
2. Answer the questions below in complete sentences based on the reading
on habits.
a) Taking into account the different definitions mentioned in the text.
• Write your own definition of person in your own words from what a habit.
A habit is something that we do repeatedly in the same way or in much the same
way, either out of habit or instinct.
b) Explain the psychological definition of a habit in your own words.
• Think of your own original example
A habit is when we refer to an act that we take as a habit, it is an action that
someone acts many times. For example: Every day before going to sleep I drink
water and relieve myself, or else I can't sleep.
c) In the last paragraph, the text suggests that habits can define our
character.
• Can you think of an example of this from real life?
If we moderate our diet, we show that we are healthy and that we exercise every
day.
d) Give the text a different that summarizes what it is about.
• Reflection on healthy eating
Learning to eat healthy gives us the possibility and motivation to lay the
foundations for a healthy and active life. Food is not only the first necessity of the
human being, but it also allows us to grow healthy and enjoy good physical and
mental health.

I almost most of the good habits in what is personal hygiene if I could rate it 8 out
of 10, already in that subject I am very careful.
• Do you think people around the world share the same habits?
Every country, or every person, has their own method of cleaning, so I would say
that not everyone shares the same habits.
2. Listen to a doctor talk about good personal hygiene habits. She makes
five important points. Write them down and include some details for each

The Dangers of Smoking
Smoking is the cause of about 90% of deaths by lung cancer. Not only does
smoking cause lung cancer, but it also causes Blood, stomach, and throat
cancers. After hearing the dialogue and reading the grammar note about “wish”,
read these sentences, and decide if you Agree (A), Disagree (D), or are Not Sure
(NS). Then discuss your answers in small groups or as a class. Do you mostly
agree with each other?

GRAMMAR NOTE
In the conversation between the friends,
you hear them say “I wish…”
I wish I hadn’t started.
I wish you would quit.
We use wish to talk about something we would like to be true but isn’t, in the past
or present.
When we use it to talk about events in the past, the second verb is in the past
perfect.
I wish I hadn’t started smoking. (But I did)
She wishes her best friend hadn’t moved to a different town. (But she did)
If we use wish to talk about a situation in the present, the second verb is in the
simple past.
I wish I had more time to relax. (But I don’t have any)
Jen wishes she had a sister. (But she doesn’t have one)
If we use wish to talk about something we would like for someone else, we use
would + V.
I wish you would quit.
