Carbon stock assessment of Large Leaf Mahogany

Introduction :

Carbon is an essential element for all life, so understanding how it moves helps us to
understand biological processes and factors that influence them. One form carbon takes is the
greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, CO2. Increased levels of carbon dioxide insulate the Earth,
causing temperatures to rise. It is very important of trees as it balances the amount of oxygen and
carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere. It also reduces the pollution in the atmosphere. Many
living organisms depend on trees for their shelter, habitat, food, etc. We have many benefits
from trees.
Importance of Large Leaf Mahogany Medication, herbal and dietary supplement induced lupus
and liver injuries have been well documented in the literature. We report two cases of sky-fruit
seed induced autoimmune phenomena and hepatic injury. Swietenia macrophylla seeds, also
known as sky fruits or mahogany seeds in Southeast Asia have been used as a remedy for diabetes,
hyperlipidemia and shown to have antibiotic properties by its effect on the innate immune system.
Due to its perceived benefits, it is being used as part of traditional medication in Southeast Asia
for various ailments. Other that mahogany is have bad effect for others or organism Because it
prevents native trees that face extinction from growing. You see, mahogany is self-centered and
vain. ... It just so happens that soil with a serving of acidity that Mahogany loves so much isn't so
good for other organisms. This makes them very invasive and able to choke out other plants.
A study to assess carbon stock in large leaf Mahogany plantations in the Tarlac Agricultural
University. It aimed to determine the amount of carbon accumulated in the biomass of both large
leaf Mahogany plantations. The carbon pools investigated included: above-ground biomass,
ground biomass, and below-ground biomass (roots and soil). Results showed that the large leaf
Mahogany stand has a total biomass.  Out of the three carbon pools studied, the below-ground
biomass has the highest carbon deposits primarily contributed by its soil component. Both
plantations exhibited the same order in terms of the amount of C stored in its different carbon
sinks. Specifically, the actual amount of carbon stored per carbon pool for large leaf Mahogany.
Results of the study further showed that both plantations exhibited higher carbon content
compared to a natural forest, a secondary forest, some fast growing plantations and agroforestry
farms based on previous studies conducted in the country. On the average, the amount of carbon
stored from both plantations. Therefore, it can be surmized that the potential of forest plantations
to sequester carbon can be maximized by considering species-site compatibility, implementing
appropriate silvicultural practices, minimizing anthropogenic disturbances or impacts, and
allowing the stand attain optimum physical productivity.

Objective
To determine. How can help this species Large Leaf Mahogany for the main problem of our
environment the global warming and the climate change.
A. If this can be survive for the summer season
B. The percent of carbon dioxide that they can absorb to reduction of pollution in the
environment
C. What kind of soil the three components supplied much of the above ground biomass while
soil (for dipterocarp) or roots for (Mahogany stand) shared the highest C content to below
ground biomass next to the highest carbon deposits within the stand. Specifically the actual
amount of carbon and CO2 stored for carbon pool in the both plantation were determine to be
in the following order : the biomass > SOC (for dipterocarp stand) or roots (for mahogany
stand)> coarse woody debris (CWD)> ground lighter/necromass/umderstorey/herbaceous
vegetation .
Methodology

How can help this species Large leaf mahogany for the main problem of our environment
the global warming and climate change.

A. If this can be survive for summer season

B. The percent of carbon dioxide that they can absorb the reduction of pollution in the
environment or surrounding
C. Depending on the type of soil or seasonal
D. They can affect others organism

Review related literature:

Mahogny, any several tropical hardwood timber tress, specially certain species in the
family meliaceae. It is tall evergreen tree with hard wood that turns reddish brown at
maturity. The leaflets of large leaf are arranged like feather, but theirs no terminal leaflets.
The small white flowers are born in clusters, the fruits is a five-parted woody capsule the
contains squarish, winged seeds, flowering plants family of mostly trees and shrub (and a
few herbecous plants of mangrove) in the order of sapindales. They are characterized by
alternate usually pinnate leaves without stipules, and by synacarpous apparently bisexual
(but actually .mostly cryptically unisex) flowers borne in panicles, cymes, spikes, or cluster.
Most species are evergreen, but some are deciduous during either in dry season or in winter.
The family includes about 50 genera 550 species with pan tropical distribution one genus.
In the light increasing fears about climate, green house gas mitigation is one of the today’s
major concerns. Carbon capture and storage are the options in the reduction of CO2
emission intensity. Tress are among the most important and common sinks of atmospheric
carbon. The carbon storage potential of Mahogany(Swetenia macrophylla) sapling has to be
elucidated to shed light on the contribution of this sapling in green house reduction. The
study aimed to assess the above ground standing biomass of the species, CO2 capture C
storage potential of the leaves, lbark and wood of the species. Allometric equation to used
calculate the above ground biomass which serve as basis in the calculation of C storage into
a ratio of CO2 (g) capture by the species. The result show the wood of the sample had
average biomass of 268.26 g and capture more Co2(16.244g)compared to the leaves
(12.111g) and the bark (5.934g) . Each sample species have accounted storage of 4.458g C
in the wood 3.325g C in the leaves and 1.126 in the bark. The above ground biomass of each
biomass sapling potentially captured og total of 34.29g CO2 from the atmosphere. The
grams of C stored to the biomass of the sapling which largely contained in the wood, small
amount in the leaves and least in the bark.
