Chesapeake Energy’s Natural Gas American Chopper and Chevy’s 2011 Volt, Motor Trend Car of
the Year will both be on display at the Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Alternative Fuel Vehicle
Fair April 7. Businesses, fleets and the public are encouraged to attend.
OKLAHOMA CITY -- -- In 1998, when Yvonne Anderson began managing a program to advance
awareness of alternative fuel vehicles across Oklahoma, gasoline was running $1.06 a gallon. Rare was
the privately-owned vehicle running on electricity, and only a handful of vehicle fleets were operating
exclusively on compressed natural gas or propane.
Today, gasoline is $3.36 a gallon and rock star Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips and his wife, Michele,
can often be seen buzzing around town in their hybrid-electric Prius. Moreover, dozens of small and large
fleets alike are now powered by energy sources that are cleaner and more cost effective than gasoline. The
economic and environmental benefits are a windfall for Oklahoma, and the energy security benefits for
Americans reach from coast-to-coast.
The public will have an opportunity to see firsthand the advancements made with alternative fuel vehicles
at the Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Alternative Fuel Vehicle Fair, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 7, in
the Expo Hall on the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. The fair, which is free to attend, will feature more than
20 exhibitors, workshops, prize drawings, food and beverages.
Featured fuels and technologies include compressed natural gas; electric and hybrid vehicle technology;
LPG Autogas (propane) and E85. On hand to discuss fuels, fleets and technology will be industry experts
and representatives of Oklahoma businesses and government agencies that are saving money at the pump
through alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle usage. In addition, the following vehicles will
be on display for business and government applications, as well as for individual consumers:

“We all have a role to play in helping increase our nation’s energy security,” said Anderson, who
manages the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program for the Association of Central Oklahoma
Governments. “It’s also important that we continue to educate ourselves on the clean resources and green
products that are available in the marketplace.”
