6. State whether you gain what you want to find from the article
After reading the article, I think I can honestly say it does answer my curiosity and
even increase my knowledge. As far as I know, motivation is just that; motivation. I
never even thought there are kinds of it, which I just discovered in this article.
Integrative Motivation refers to learners’ willingness and interest in interacting with
members of the group of the second language (L2), while Instrumental Motivation is
defined as the desire to achieve proficiency for practical reasons. In sum, integrative
motivation is due to internal reasons, whereas instrumental motivation is due to external
ones.
Additionally, I also found out that for Indonesian EFL learners, the integrative
motivation is not relevant in the era of globalisation. In short, most of EFL learners
learn English only because they feel necessary to do so, not because they themselves
feel interested in it.
