Research Colloquium

(Reflection Paper)

The University of Don Honorio Ventura held its Research Colloquium on

August 9, 2021, in keeping with its aim of preparing other students to become good
researchers. The university's Research colloquium is a forum regulated by the
Commission on Higher Education where graduate students learn how to start a
research project and get updates on the newest trends in applied research in several
fields. Two excellent speakers from famous universities who are known experts in
the field of research graced the said session.Quantitative and qualitative research
were discussed. The first speaker spoke about the research and publication process,
encouraging everyone to have the guts to publish their work so that their labor and
hard work would be rewarded. They began by explaining the nature of
research. From the statement, they drew up the obstacles of conducting research.

After listening I was enlightened what a Research Colloquium is. It's a writing
class for outstanding history students, as well as those of us in other humanities
subjects, that allows us to build and update current research projects in a structured
intellectual community. We saw how the Research Colloquium allows its members to
"workshop" their ongoing projects: students share drafts of their papers with the
group on a regular basis, receiving feedback and constructive critique. While
observing, I wondered aloud, "What is a colloquium for?" and "Why cutting-edge
problems through preparatory study, followed by a debate and meeting to establish
policies?" There are far too many concerns raised, so I wondered if we would be as
frightened if we were there.
