APPLICATION 1 : MECHANICAL CUTTER USING FOUR

BAR MECHANISM

 INTRODUCTION :

The working principle behind the operation of simple mechanical cutting machine is
four bar chain mechanism particularly crank and slotted lever mechanism. The crank
wheel is rotated by the motor through the pulley belt assembly. The rotating motion the
crank wheel is converted into oscillating motion by the coupling link by using the slider.
The oscillating motion at the other end of the coupling link is converted into
reciprocating motion to the blade by using guide hole. Therefore the rotating motion of
the crank wheel is converted into reciprocating motion to the blade through the coupling
link. The object to be cut is place on the platform. Due to the reciprocating motion of the
blade, the object placed on the platform is cutter for successfully transmitting the
rotational motion from the motor to the crank with minimum slip v-belt drive is used.
The bearing which supports the shaft is rolling ball bearing for smooth operation
FOUR BAR MECHANISM

 A four-bar linkage, also called a four-bar, is the simplest movable closed

chain linkage. They perform a wide variety of motions with a few simple
parts. Then is paper involves the design, synthesis and fabrication of one
such mechanism (four bar mechanism). In this paper four Leg Kinematic
movement works on Chebyshev’s parallel motion which deals the relation
between the links.

l = 4 and j = 4. (l=No. of links, J= No. of Joints)

n=3(l-1)-2*J
∴n = 3 (4 – 1) – 2 × 4 = 1- One Degree of Freedom
Advantages
It is very easy to operate. The design is simple. Less maintenance. Initial cost of
the machine is very low. Quick processing. No need of skilled labours. Less floor
space required.

Limitations
Not suitable for cutting hard materials. Electric power supply should be available.

Applications
Used to cut sugarcane and kappa of required size for cultivation. With less
modification in this machine, we can use this to cut wooden pieces of required size
for boilers. By coupling a conveyor mechanism, it automatically feed the object to
be cut for large scale cutting.
APPLICATION NO 2: MULTI NOZZLE WHEEL SPRAY PUMP USING
SINGLE SLIDER CRANK MECHANISM

INTRODUCTION

The project is a Pesticide/Fertilizer Sprayer mounted on a Cart which is operated

mechanically without any external source of energy. The aim of developing such a
concept is primarily because of preventing the 3 major drawbacks of the pump being
used currently Firstly, the farmer has to carry the entire weight of the pesticide
spraying (approx. 20+ kg) pump on his shoulder; secondly, he has to continuously use his
one hand to pump using the handle; thirdly, reduction in spraying time. All these factors
have been taken care of in this project along with being cost effective, light in weight
and good in strength.
METHODOLOGY

 Multi sprinkle system work on principle of reciprocating pump. This reciprocating

pump uses single slider crank mechanism, in which wheel sprocket works as crank.
There are two sprockets which is mounted on two different axles in which one
sprocket is directly attached to wheel axle. Connecting rod is attached to another
sprocket axle through disc. In this power is given to piston of reciprocating pump
through rotation of wheel.

 When piston reach at top dead centre, it creates negative or low pressure inside the
cylinder due to pressure difference between reservoir and cylinder space, water
moves to fill the cylinder chamber space. In this process suction valve open and
delivery valve close.

 When piston reaches at bottom dead centre, it creates high pressure inside the
cylinder chamber & due to the pressure difference between cylinder & delivery pipe.
Water moves through discharge pipe to sprinkle. In this process suction valve closed
and delivery valve open. This process repeats again and again to get desire output.

 Motion transmission by chain and sprockets arrangement.

 Slider cranks mechanism.

Single Slider Crank Mechanism:

 The Slider-Crank Mechanism is used to transform rotational motion into

translational motion by means of a rotating drive beam, a connecting rod and a
sliding body. In another word Single Slider Crank Mechanism is used to transform
straight line motion (Reciprocating Motion) into rotary motion and vice versa.

n = 4 --- 2 links + 1 ground link + 1 slider.

L = 4 --- 3 pins + 1 slider.
H = 0 --- no higher pairs.
F = 3(4-1) - 2(4) - 0 = 1.
APPLICATIONS

Its major use in agriculture to spray fertilizer.

In city and urban area, it can use for spraying water on lawn.

It may be exercise device at morning during utilize in lawn.

Use from spray chemical Pesticide in plants in farm.

It is use for spray painting in industry.

It is use for spray water in garden on the plants.

It is use for transfer water from one place to its nearer place.

For the fungicides and bactericides application to control the plant diseases.

For the herbicide’s application, to kill the weeds.

For the application of plant nutrients as foliar spray.

Advantages

It reduces the fatigue of operator during the operation.

It increases the efficiency of operator

It can cover more area of land during spray.

It can adjust the height of spray by using adjustable

Its cost is less than electrically and solar operated pump.

It has is less air pollution.

Disadvantages

In irregular area of land, it can difficult to operate.

In rainy days in muddy environment it is difficult to operate.

For irregular crops this pump is difficult to work.

The flow is not uniform, so we have to fit a bottle at both ends.

APPLICATION NO 3 : MULTIPURPOSE AGRICULTURE VEHICLE
USING SCOTCH YOKE MECHANISM

INTRODUCTION
Mechanized agriculture is the process of using agriculture machinery to
mechanize the work of agriculture, greatly increasing farm worker
productivity in modern times, and powered machinery has replaced many
farm jobs formerly carried out by manual labour or by working animals such
as oxen, horses and mules. The entire history of agriculture contains many
examples of the use of tools, such as the hoe and the plough. But the ongoing
integration of machines since the industrial revolution has allowed farming
to become much less labour intensive current mechanized agriculture
includes the use of tractors, trucks, combine harvesters, countless types of
farm implements, airplanes and helicopters and other vehicles. Precision
agriculture even uses computers in conjunction satellite imagery and
satellite navigation to increase yields.
Scotch Yoke Mechanism

The Scotch yoke mechanism is a reciprocating motion mechanism, converting the

linear motion of a slider into rotational motion, or vice versa. The piston or other
reciprocating part is directly coupled to a sliding yoke with a slot that engages a
pin on the rotating part. In many internal combustion engines, linear motion is
converted into rotational motion by means of a crankshaft, a piston and a rod that
connects them. The Scotch yoke is considered to be a more efficient means of
producing the rotational motion as it spends more time at the high point of its
rotation than a piston and it has fewer parts. The location of the piston versus
time is a sine wave of constant amplitude, and constant frequency given a
constant rotational speed
ADVANTAGES

• Easy in construction

• Easy to clean and maintain

• It is a renewable energy powered

• It does not create air pollutant & noise

• Easy to handle

LIMITATIONS

The panels are weather dependent. Thus the power will have to be generated by any
others means.

There is a requirement to fill the sprinkler tank again with the pesticide after the
quantity inside it gets over
