MY JOURNEY AS A STUDENT TEACHER

On January 22, 2019, we were deployed by our field study teacher to our
cooperating school, San Vicente National High School to start our On the Job Training
as future teachers. On that same day, we met our cooperating teachers and we were
oriented of the school rules and policies that are being implemented by their school. Our
cooperating teachers then introduced us to the students we’re about to handle.

After the introduction, I was given the topics that I needed to teach to the
students by my cooperating teacher. She also instructed me to prepare my lesson plan
so that I would have a guide in executing the discussion. My cooperating teacher helped
me a lot in all my works and activities. She gave me suggestions, strategies and
opinions on how to improve my teaching skills as well as my relationship with my
students.

Before the last day of our teaching in that school, I was asked to execute my final
demonstration to a chosen class section that I handle. As always, my cooperating
teacher assisted me in my preparation for this grand event in my future teaching career.
She guided me on what strategies will best work for my topic as well as for the types of
students that I will be handling. She gave suggestions regarding the format and flow of
my lesson plan. She encouraged me to give my best in this finale. And of course, the
principal in that school never waved her support on us.

The day came that I was now expected to deliver the final blow. We came in
early to prepare for all the things we needed for our execution. A few minutes passed
and then the panellists finally came to observe my final demonstration. I started with a
nervous feeling that shows up in my actions and voice but I told myself that I shall never
falter from this. So I took a deep breath and relax myself as I deliver my lesson to the
eagerly listening students in front of me. I managed to execute the entire discussion
with confidence. All in all, the experience of teaching those enthusiastic students and
the feedback of the panellist regarding my performance is indeed something that is
worth the hard work and stress and it will surely be a great factor in honing my skills to
become a professional teacher.
