1. Introduction
THIS INSTALLATION GUIDE IS INTENDED FOR TECHNICIANS WORKING FOR TELIA
Norge AS.

This guide is written chronologically and is meant to be followed in its entirety. There are two
main types of systems this guide, Indoor and outdoor systems. When buying new systems
from eltek, most of this guide is already completed. If you are adding battery cabinets to
systems you will need to go through this guide as a whole, separating indoor from outdoor
sites. Outdoor systems are a bit more complex and require advanced skill level.

2. Site parameters
First of:
Most questions can be looked up in the “help” option in power suite
Search for a keyword and your answer will appear.

Most Eltek clients have been installing our systems over a large time span. This means there is a
mix of old and new systems on sites. To make the installation and commissioning easier and less
time consuming it is advised to make a note of what the part number (found on the side of cabinet,
or inside the power core if the power core is changed) the system has. Remember that, if the power
core is changed (most common on older OD systems) it is the part number of the power core that is
the correct one.
(Power core highlighted)

3. Installation
Installing the physical components of the system
NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT: disconnect all batteries during this operation.
Disconnect all battery cables to each battery string.

Follow the instructions given in the quick start guide that comes as enclosed items on all
Eltek power systems. This is a requirement for the warranty to be valid

The responsible technician is responsible for correct dimensioning of cables from power
system to battery cabinet. Maximum acceptable voltage drop is 0,3VDC.

BB0434.004 maximum cable size: 70 mm2

B00038.026 maximum cable size: 95 mm2

When installing an external battery cabinet: BB0434.004 and B00038.026

When installing an external battery cabinet on an older revision of a system, there is a

chance that the system is not prepared for this external cabinet. When there is need to
install an extra battery MCB you must consult one of your company’s authorized Eltek
technicians. In some systems there can be an option of connecting multiple battery strings
(max 2) to one MCB if there is no spare battery breaker. (Top cable lug must be placed
upside-down for correct connection)

Power for outdoor battery cabinet (for heater, light and fan’s in the cabinet):

(Outdoor)The power for the heater and other equipment that is located in the external
battery cabinets needs a dedicated MCB from the power cabinet. In newer revisions these
breakers are located in top right side ((Terminal 1 for minus, F23 for plus)):

Some older systems might not have an MCB to spare in the power section. You will need to
contact Eltek technician in your company for assistance.

Connect the can bus cables(10m cable prepared between the cabinets) and place the
resistor cap in the last can node in the loop(only use eltek can bus cable):

In the Telia OD cabinet this will be from IO monitor T2 (placed in the left of cabinets)

There must be only one can loop connected to the smartpack. There are two cables
exiting the smartpack. One of these is for the powercore (or can termination), the other is
for the can loop. Telia is not using the Ethernet connection. Be sure not to connect the can
cable to the Ethernet connection point.

  End termination in the last link, regardless if this is in

the external battery cabinet or not.

It is vitally important that all the can nodes according to the schematics are connected in the
right order and that none are missing, when you are getting ready to upload a new XML file.

Battery symmetry (Both indoor and outdoor)
The battery symmetry placement is VERY important. The symmetry “box” MUST be
placed on the top string in the cabinet. Make sure it is not placed near a heat source. This
monitor determines the values in the Battery lifetime-monitor, so if these readings are
incorrect, it affects the correctness of battery ageing factors.

BSM must always be placed on

the top battery string, regardless
of the nr of battery strings. This
means if there is only two
String 3 strings, and the top string is on
shelf 4 shelf nr 3, the BSM will be
placed on shelf nr 3. (in the
picture top string is on shelf nr
4)

4. Software
Log in to power suite and enter the password: “3”

Go to the “system configurations” tab. Reset the system to default:

Upload the new XML file:

Import XML file from your computer (find the correct XML files)

18 Installation guide for 2 and 4 hour battery backup systems 351690.033 , Issue 1
There is need for two XML files in the outdoor systems

Important note, for all outdoor systems, it is very important that you load outdoor power
system configuration file first and then the battery cabinet BB0434.004 as second in order
for it to work correctly. (FIAMM have separate files for power system, contact Telia)

5. Checking parameters

Remember: when working in powersuite, nothing is

saved unless you click “ ” at the bottom of each
window!
Follow the instructions in the red marked boxes as well as reading the entire guide and
doing all the steps.

First thing you do is go to “tools” and click “adjust time and date” so that the system is
configured to today’s date.

Now you will need to control that all dates in the systems are correct. Check Installation
date for the batteries (under the battery tabconfiguration)

This will be the date

you install new
batteries

Lastly check the date for the next battery interval test (under batterytest tab)

Next battery test will need to be set 181 days into the future.

NOTE: if Mode is still showing “manual test” or “interval test” please access the
battery tab test and stop the test by pressing “stop” button.

End voltage shall be set to -1,85V
Do not enable max discharge.

Installation guide for 2 and 4 hour battery backup systems 351690.033, Issue, 1 23
Double checking the configuration
Eltek requires that you have checked all the parameters in the configuration after
uploading a new XML file. The system is not complete if a parameter has been left
out. This can happen if a connection is not proper or if there is a potential difference
in the can bus. Furthermore Eltek requires that the system is connected 100%
according to this guide, and if anything is unclear you must call your company’s
Eltek certified personnel or your local Eltek department.

Every system has their Own configuration sheet(as shown below). This can be found
in Telia spec, or as enclosed items in the system. Make sure that you have the correct
revision of PDF(see the XML overview at the start of the guide)
You only need to check to customer defined values

Right side of the

document is the
customer defined
values(marked in
red)

First check the voltage levels

Check battery test end voltage   

Note:
Each parameter is found under its dedicated monitor in the power explorer or system

Check that Telia get these signals to ensure that you have connected the alarms correctly
(set to 60 seconds test timeout)

30 Installation guide for 2 and 4 hour battery backup systems 351690.033 , Issue 1
Tips for Outdoor cabinets:
 Door needs to be closed (magnetic switch in top of the door) for the system to be
free of alarms.

 Output testing can be done in: found under IO monitor in the power
explorer.
 Most alarms have time delay. Wait one minute before confirming an alarm is gone
or present.
 Most problems with OD cabinets can be solved by checking:
o Addresses of IO units
o Checking the nr of units connected according to schematics
o Controlling the parameters with the configuration excel sheet
o Resetting manual alarms
o Restarting powersuite
o Control checking part number in powercore and in cabinet door to see if
you have the correct XML file
o Reboot the controller at the front display
 Battery cabinet for outdoor sites has a breaker for the service light. This is not
automatically dimmed when cabinet is closed.

Installation guide for 2 and 4 hour battery backup systems 351690.033, Issue, 1 31
6. Service options
Some systems might need a firmware upgrade. Both controller and can nodes (IO monitors and
Battery monitors) need this upgrade if this is the case. Eltek personal is recommended to use when
you need to update firmware:

ftp://ftp.eltek.com/

User: Customer1
Password: Data-Center

Then download FWloader for either 32 or 64 bit system depending on your computer.

Then follow instructions given when searched in “help” in powersuite.

Passwords are updated on a regular basis. If login doesn’t work, contact your local Eltek
department.

Battery problems

 Check the event log

 Check cable connection(also for alarm cables and relays)
 Check the voltage of each string
 Run a normal test to get battery quality indication, IF the correct XML file has been
uploaded. This can be controlled by checking the battery table under the test tab,
since this is the deviating parameter.

Temperature problem

 Check if the monitors are located close to a “heat source” that can produce
incorrect results.
 Check if the monitor is working by heating it with your hands.
 If this does not give alarm, check the parameter that is set in power suite. This must
be according to the configuration sheet.

Heater, lights or relay problems

 Check the output relay test

Found under output test on each monitor or smartpack
