GUIDE TO APPLICANTS OF THE SECOND MASTET CALL

About the Second MASTET Mobility Call


The second mobility call provides opportunities for young African scholars to apply for
scholarships to some programmes of the MASTET consortium. Please, note that not all
programmes of the consortium are available in this call, as was the case in the first call
which was launched in 2020.
The second call offers scholarships for two types of mobility schemes:
 Degree-seeking mobility
 Credit-seeking mobility
The two mobility schemes are available for applicants of both TARGET GROUP 1 and
TARGET GROUP 2.
Target Group 1 applicants are those from one of the six African universities which
constitute the MASTET consortium. These include the:
 University of Buea, in Cameroon (the Lead University which coordinates the activities
of the consortium)
 Makerere University (Uganda)
 Stellenbosch University (South Africa)
 Abomey Calavi University (Benin)
 Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Botswana)
 Cairo University (Egypt)
Target Group 2 applicants are those from other African Universities, located in countries
which are part of the African Union.

Degree-Seeking Mobilities
This mobility scheme covers the following:
 2 years for Masters programmes in any of four MASTET universities (Buea,
Stellenbosch, Makerere, Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural
Resources)
Universities Programmes
Buea Master of Engineering in Power Systems
Stellenbosch Master of Engineering (Specialization in
Renewable Energy Systems, Networks,
Power Quality and Efficient Production
Systems)
Makerere MSc in Environmental Engineering
Botswana University of Agriculture MSc in Agricultural Engineering (with
and Natural Resources streams in Land Use Planning,

Water Engineering

 4 years for a PhD programme in one of two universities (Stellenbosch;


Abomey Calavi)

Applicants should also note the following:


 Applicants for any programme in Stellenbosch are also required to
apply online for admission into Stellenbosch University
 Applicants cannot apply to a university in their country of origin or
residence

Credit-seeking mobility
 Applicants must already be registered on a PhD programme in any eligible
University (either Target Group 1 or Target Group 2)
 Selected applicants will spend 10 months in one of four MASTET Universities (
Buea, Makerere, Stellenbosch, Abomey Calavi), for any of the following
programmes:

Agricultural Mechanization

 Applicants cannot apply to a university in their country of origin or


residence

Scholarships Provide
 A monthly subsistence allowance for the mobility period
 A settling-in allowance (equivalent of one month subsistence)
 Round trip ticket and visa costs
 Comprehensive insurance (health, accident and travel)
 An additional allowance for female students in degree-seeking mobilities

Application Procedure
 Application is online on the MASTET website www.intra-africa-mastet.org
 Application files should contain the following attachments:
 Application Form (to be filled by all applicants)
 Curriculum Vitae
 Passport (scanned)
 Bachelor’s Degree (scanned)
 Master’s degree (for PhD applicants only)
 Attestation of Language Proficiency ( for applicants for whom English is
not their first Language)
 Declaration of Non-Contractual Constraints (to show that the
candidate is free to travel at short notice without requiring Employers
to grant study leave. This declaration also shows that applicant is not a
beneficiary to previous EU Intra-Africa or ACP grants)
