In most instances, deterioration of concrete is due to a

lack of adequate durability, rather than deficient
strength. Concrete structures can become unserviceable
due to gradual weakening arising from concrete
deterioration and steel corrosion. Reducing concrete
deterioration by increasing its durability has become a
challenging problem facing the industry.

In most every case of concrete degradation, the root cause of the issue is the presence of moisture or
water within the concrete. The ingress of deleterious substances into concrete takes place through
the pore system in the concrete matrix, or through micro-cracks. In order to effectively ensure a
concrete structure's durability, which leads to a longer lifespan and a more sustainable building, the
concrete must first be effectively waterproofed.
Monarch make Krystal Integral Crystalline Waterproofing system prevents the movement of water
through the concrete by plugging or blocking the natural pores, capillaries and micro cracks,

Waterproofing systems rely on a revolutionary crystalline
technology that turns porous concrete into an impermeable
barrier.

The Crystalline waterproofing system, a blend of Portland

cement, processed silica sand and special catalytic agents
which converts hydration by-products to solid crystalline
formation in the water transporting capillary tracts and
hydration pores thus rendering the concrete relatively
impermeable and increasing durability

When cracks form due to drying shrinkage, settling, seismic activity, etc., water entering through
them causes new crystals to form and grow, blocking and filling the cracks. Improving the self-
sealing ability of concrete is one of crystalline technology's most unique and useful features, and
can help to dramatically reduce the long-term maintenance and repair costs of a concrete structure.

are very similar to the processes that occur during
concrete hydration.
When Krystal – Integral Crystalline Waterproofing
products are added or applied to concrete,
crystalline chemicals facilitate a reaction that causes long, narrow crystals to form, filling the pores,
capillaries and hairline cracks of the concrete mass. As long as moisture remains present, crystals
continue to grow throughout the concrete. Once the concrete has dried, the crystalline chemicals sit
dormant until another dose of water (such as through a new crack) causes the chemical reaction
known as crystallization to begin again.
The ability to reactivate in the presence of water gives crystalline-treated concrete the ability to
improve self-sealing.

Krystal SW – Crystalline Slurry Waterproofing Coatings

Krystal SW is a surface applied crystalline slurry treatment
that transforms new or existing concrete into a permanent
waterproofing barrier.

Krystal SW lowers the permeability of the concrete to protect

against the ingress of water and waterborne chemicals.
Since it becomes integral to the concrete, it can be applied to
either the positive (wet) or negative (dry) side of the water
pressure which allows reliable hydrostatic waterproofing protection and remediation for even the
most difficult applications.
When applied to concrete, Krystal SW chemically reacts with water and un-hydrated cement
particles to form needle-shaped crystals that fill capillary pores and micro-cracks in the concrete
and permanently block the pathways for water and waterborne contaminants. Any moisture
introduced over the lifespan of the concrete will initiate crystallization, ensuring permanent
waterproofing protection.

Krystal LW – Crystalline Liquid Waterproofing Coatings

Krystal LW is a spray applied colloidal liquid that penetrates
the concrete's surface and reacts with the cement paste
matrix to form an insoluble gel sealing pores, capillaries and
cracks creating a below surface barrier against water and
water borne salts ingress. As long as water is present, Krystal
LW remains active and will seal hairline cracks both present
and future.
Krystal LW can be used in above- and below-grade applications. The active chemicals react with
moisture and by product of cement hydrate in the concrete resulting in crystalline formation within
the pores and capillary tracts of concrete thus prevent any further water ingress (even under
pressure) and other liquids from any direction. However, the concrete will still allow the passage of
water vapour through the structure (i.e. the concrete will still be able to "breathe").

Krystal PA - Powder Crystalline Waterproofing Admixture
Krystal PA is an integral crystalline admixture in powder
form specifically formulated by utilizing deep penetrating
Nano-particles that react with the by-products of cement
hydration (lime), and converts them into a new, non-soluble
crystalline structure that “plugs” the capillary porosity,
making concrete watertight even under extreme hydrostatic
pressure.

Krystal PA blocks concrete capillary channels, producing 100% waterproof concrete that is self-
sealing and water-pressure-resistant from any direction, and protects concrete from invasive
compounds by sealing the capillaries, pores, and hairline cracks. Proven crystalline technology
ensures waterproofing for the life of the concrete structure, not subject to deterioration issues
encountered by membranes.

Krystal LA – Liquid Crystalline Waterproofing Admixture

Krystal LA is a state-of-the crystalline waterproofing
admixture in liquid form. The chemistry within the Krystal LA
reacts with moisture and free lime in the concrete, creating
millions of insoluble crystalline fibers, which fill the pores,
capillary tracts and minor shrinkage cracks within the
concrete. Passage of water through the concrete, either from
the positive or negative water pressure side is permanently
blocked and the reinforcement protected from corrosion.
Krystal LA can be added to the concrete mix at the time of batching or at the job site to a ready mix
truck with full mixing capabilities.
During concrete hardening, Krystal LA forms millions of fine crystalline fibers (nanocrystals) inside
the capillary pores. Crystalline fibers reduce the pore diameter, thus blocking the flow of water
through the capillary voids. Treated concrete will be watertight.

Krystal RM – Crystalline Concrete Repair and Rehabilitation

No matter how carefully you build and maintain your
concrete structure, it's not a matter of if cracks will occur, but
when. At best, concrete cracks are an unattractive nuisance.
At worst, they lead to leaks that can damage the interior of
the building, corrode steel reinforcements, and ultimately
shorten the life of the concrete structure.
Krystal RM can be used in all structural concrete that is
constantly or intermittently in contact with water or other
aggressive environments such as sea walls, tunnels, basements, structural and pre-cast concrete.
Krystal RM permanently repair leaking cracks, holes and joints in concrete, repair spalled or
honeycombed concrete and can also be used to resurface and waterproof defective, damaged or
deteriorating concrete , construction joints, pipe penetrations, tie-holes and control joints.
There are no limits when it comes to repairing or waterproofing hard or impossible to reach areas.
Krystal RM can be put to work wherever the cracks are—without expensive, time consuming
perimeter digging.

Crystalline Water Cut Off Injection Grout

Krystal IG - Crystalline Water Stop Injection Grouting
Krystal IG is injection grout with integral crystalline
waterproofing ability. It waterproofs concrete and rock by
filling and sealing cracks and fissures and can be used to fill
hollow spots and voids to bring stability and strength to
repaired areas. The extremely fine particle size of its
ingredients allows Krystal IG to penetrate into micro-fine,
hairline cracks in concrete or rock fissures and seal them.
In addition to the water cut-off grout, the integral crystalline waterproofing technology forms an
insoluble structure to further aid in sealing these cracks and fissures. In the case of concrete, the
crystalline network not only seals the cracks, but also the pores and micro-fine voids in the
surrounding concrete, making the concrete itself waterproof.
Krystal IG has a very low, water-like viscosity, which allows it to enter and follow extremely fine
cracks and displace any water present under injection pressure. Through its water cut-off action
and its unique chemistry, it provides corrosion protection for embedded steel and anchors. In
concrete, it also aids in re-passivating areas around injection sites reducing corrosion and restoring
a protective layer around reinforcing and other steel embeds.
Rapid-Setting, Crystalline Hydraulic Cement
Krystal RP - Rapid Plug
Krystal RP is a rapid-setting hydraulic cement compound with
crystalline properties used to instantly stop running water or
seepage in masonry or concrete. Krystal RP is ready to use
and requires only the addition of water before plugging and
sealing active leaks within 2 minutes.

Krystal RP can be used internally or externally as a

waterproof plugging mortar or where rapid-setting is
required.
Krystal RP sets hard within 2 minutes and has high-compressive strength, which allows it to stop
water even under high-hydrostatic pressure. Stopping water flow then allows permanent repair of
the leak, the high performance characteristics of Krystal RP are enhanced by Monarch's unique
Crystalline Waterproofing Technology.
Once Krystal RP has set and stopped the flowing water, additional Krystal waterproofing
treatments can be immediately applied over the top of it.
