CELLIST

EXPRESSION FIBER ARTS

Cellist 1 Expression Fiber Arts
-Cellist-

Cellist is a modern, boxy, unisex poncho that is designed to be worn as a layering piece. With minimal shaping, this is
an ideal rst garment for an intermediate knitter. The piece has a tall, cabled funnel neck and cabled edging. The main
body is knit at and seamed together at the end. A diamond shaped cable pattern that’s lled with seed stitch runs up
the center of the garment, and high slits complement the sides. This design was inspired by a Korean television drama
in which the main character Hae Won is a cellist who is questioning her path in life. The series took place in the dead
of winter, and she wore many beautifully knitted, warm, layering pieces to keep her warm, as she rediscovered who
she was and her place in her community.

- PATTERN-
NOTES

• Garment is worked at in two pieces and then seamed.

• Armholes and side edges are picked up and knit after blocking.
• Pattern is unisex and does not have waist shaping.
• Diamond cables are lled with seed stitch.
• The length for each size is increased by an increase of repeats in the bottom edging.
• SIZING OPTIONS: To make the garment larger, add two additional stitches (multiples of 4 total
for CO) to both the RH edging and LH edging (and work in stockinette stitch the entire time). If
you wish to make the piece shorter or longer, simply adjust the number of repeats on the bottom
edging. Otherwise, consider making the garment with a larger needle and possibly thicker yarn.
• The total number of rows for the main body for each size, including the bottom edging, is as
follows: 182, (182, 186, 190) (194, 194, 198).
• This is a pattern with positive ease. Please look at the measurements listed in the table to
determine which size you would like to knit, depending on how you would like the garment to t.
• Click here to watch a tutorial in which I demonstrate how to work the cable stitches featured in
this pattern.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Soak in lukewarm water for 20 minutes. Gently squeeze water out, but do not wring.
Press water out with towel and lay at. Block to measurements provided in the table on page 9.
Allow to air dry fully.

Optional Seaming to Turn this Garment into a Vest:

With RS facing you, measure 9" (23 cm) down from shoulder seam along the side edging. Overlap
one side edge over the other. Using a darning needle and yarn, tack down the overlapping side
along 4.5" (11.5 cm) of the garment. This will give you a 9" (23 cm) armhole, a 4.5" (11.5 cm) closed
seam, and a 9.25" (9.25", 9.75", 10.25”) (10.75”, 10.75", 11.25") / 23.5 (23.5, 24.75, 26) (27, 27,
28.5) cm side vent.

Feel free to adjust these measurements if you would like a larger armhole, longer/shorter side vent,
or no side vent at all.
