Gauge: 24 sts x 24 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Mosaic Stitch

Row 1: (k1, s1wyif) across.
Row 2: purl across.
GAUGE

NOTES

• The 4-color sample shown used approximately 800 yards (732 m) total, and approximately 200
yards (183 m) were used per color in the 4-color version.
• The 2-color version used all of both skeins (700 yards/640 m total), so gauge is very important for
this version.
• Stitches are slipped purlwise, unless otherwise noted.
• The shawl can be worked with as many or as few colors as you desire.

PATTERN

Center Triangle: stitches in the back loop of the stitch, and knit
With Color A, CO 3 sts. every stitch along Side A = 35 stitches. Center
is created by yo, pm, picking up and k1, pm,
Set-Up Rows: yo. Then continue along Side B (see diagram)
Row 1 (RS): kfb, k to last st, sl1wyif. (4 sts) to pick up and knit 35 stitches to last stitch. (73
Row 2 (WS): kfb, p to last st, sl1wyif. (5 sts) sts, which includes the 2 yo center sts)

Begin Pattern Repeat: Garter Stitch Selvedge:

Row 3 (RS): kfb, *k1, sl1wyif* to end of row. (6
sts)
Row 4 (WS): kfb, p to last st, s1wyif. (7 sts)
Rows 5-68: Rep Rows 3-4, ending with a WS

Row 69 (RS): BO knitwise. Break Color A.
Note: Lightly blocking out the curling at the top
of the triangle is recommended at this point.
You can pin it to your blocking boards while still
attached to your needles, and then spritz with
water. Allow to air dry before continuing.

Picot Border:
Begin the Picot BO on the RS removing
markers as you go:
*CO 2 sts using the knitted CO method, k2,
pull the rst st over the second st, k1, pull the
rst st over the second st (this creates a picot).
Then BO the next 4 sts, slip st from right needle
back to left needle.* (6 sts bound off)
Rep from * to * until there are 2 sts before the
center st, create Picot, then BO 3 sts. Continue
Picot BO from * to * until there are 3 sts left.
Rep Picot BO one more time ending row with
binding off 2 sts instead of 4.

 FINISHING

Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle. Block your shawl by soaking in lukewarm water for 15–20
minutes. Press out excess moisture with a towel, and lay at to dry. Do not be afraid to block rmly
to open up lace, and pin each picot in place. Allow to air dry fully.
