ABBREVIATIONS
CC = crochet chart; ch = chain stitch; dc = double crochet; foll =
follows/following; rnd(s) = round(s); rep = repeat; sl st = slip stitch;
st(s) = stitch(es).
Crochet Pattern: Use the 4.5 mm crochet hook and a double
strand of yarn to work dc. Stitch gauge in rnds: first 5 rnds high
and 4 sts wide on the head = 2.5 cm in height; in rows: 5 sts and 9
rows = 5 x 5 cm.
Reverse dc (crab stitch): dc worked from left to right.
INSTRUCTIONS
The basis for the rug is a bear sewn of fabric. The crochet pieces
are then sewn to the fabric bear: head, snout, ears, arms and legs;
additional motifs and the pompoms last.
FABRIC BEAR
Transfer the full size bear (see details for the fabric) to the tracing
paper. Cut out the bear. Transfer the pattern outlines to the quilted
fabric. Cut out the fabric along the pattern outlines including 1
cm seam allowance. Lay the seam allowance 1 cm wide onto the
wrong side of the fabric, stitch.
POM POMS
2 skeins Creativa Fino colour Cream 00926. Make 9 pompoms for
each group. Use a double strand of colour 00363 Linen to make 1
pompom 4.5 cm Ø and 2 pompoms 2.8 cm Ø.
Important: All pieces are crocheted with a double strand of yarn.
Chain stitches shown at the edges on the CC indicate turning-ch.
HEAD
Use the 4.5 mm crochet hook and Cream to start with 2 ch.
Rnd 1: 6 dc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Close the rnd with 1 sl
st into the 1st ch. Now work in spiral rnds from rnd 2, e.g. do not
close each rnd with a sl st but just continue on. Mark the beginning
of each rnd with a bit of yarn in a contrasting colour. Carry the
marker yarn in back of the work as you go.
Rnd 2: 2 dc into each st = 12 dc.
Rnd 3: * 1 dc, 2 dc into the foll st *, rep from * to * = 18 dc.
Rnd 4: * 1 dc into each of the foll 2 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *, rep
from * to * = 24 dc.
Rnd 5: * 1 dc into each of the foll 3 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 30 dc.
Rnd 6: * 1 dc into each of the foll 4 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 36 dc.
Rnd 7: * 1 dc into each of the foll 5 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 42 dc.
Rnd 8: * 1 dc into each of the foll 6 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 48 dc.
Rnd 9: * 1 dc i into each of the foll 7 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 54 dc.
Rnd 10: * 1 dc into each of the foll 8 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 60 dc.
Rnd 11: * 1 dc into each of the foll 5 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *, rep
from * to * = 70 dc.
Rnd 12: * 1 dc into each of the foll 6 sts, 2 dc into the foll st *; rep
from * to * = 80 dc.
Rnd 13: 1 dc into each st, but work 1 sl st into the last dc of the rnd
and into the 1st dc of the foll rnd.
Rnd 14: Work reverse dc (crab stitch) into each st, close the rnd
with 1 sl st into the 1st st.
Crochet off. Conceal thread.
SNOUT
Use the 4.5 mm crochet hook and Stone to crochet up to and in-
cluding rnd 7 exactly as for the head.
Rnd 8: Work as for rnd 13 of the head
Rnd 9: Work as for rnd 14 of the head.
Crochet off. Conceal thread.
LEG (2X)
Begin with 17 ch in Stone and work from the CC. Crochet off, con-
ceal thread. Work 1 row of dc along the outer edges (outer right
upper edge), turn. Work 1 row of reverse dc. Crochet off, conceal
thread. Crochet the 2nd leg likewise.
ARM (2X)
Begin with 7 ch in Cream and work from the CC. Crochet off, con-
ceal thread. Work 1 row of dc along the outer edges (outer right
upper edge), turn. Work 1 row of reverse dc. Crochet off, conceal
thread. Crochet the 2nd arm likewise, but with reversed shaping.
EARS
Begin with 10 ch in Stone, work from the CC. Crochet off, conceal
thread. Work 1 row of dc along the outer edges (outer right upper
edge), turn. Work 1 row of reverse dc. Crochet off, conceal thread.
Crochet the 2nd ear likewise.
FLOWER (8X)
Use the 3.5 mm crochet hook and a double strand of Linen yarn to
make a thread ring.
Rnd 1: 6 dc into the ring and close with 1 sl st into the 1st st.
Rnd 2: Work 2 dc into every st and close with 1 st st into
the 1st st. Crochet off, conceal thread.

FINISHING
Lay the crochet pieces on the fabric bear. Sew the ears to the head
and then sew the head to the fabric with small, invisible stitches by
hand. Embroider the face on the snout with stem stitch in Brown.
Then sew the snout to the fabric. Embroider the eyes in Brown and
fill them in with small circles of stem stitch. Arrange 4 Linen flowers
on each arm and sew in place. Sew on the legs. Sew the big Linen
pom poms to the upper edge of the snout with a piece of cotton
crochet yarn Creativa Fino. Sew on two small pompoms near the
ears. Arrange the smaller pom poms on the body of the bear and
sew on with cotton crochet yarn Creativa Fino.
