III. PROJECT BACKGROUND

School Year 2020-2021 has been a huge challenge for all of us, especially in the
field of education because of the pandemic. It has taken a toll on our childrens’ learning
as face-to-face instruction was discontinued. Thus, the Department of Education
adopted distance learning, specifically modular-based instruction in public schools, as
the new mode of learning. Under this learning modality, the pupils will not have to go to
school but study at home through the use of modules. Their parents will get the modules
and they are the one who act as teachers of their children, guiding them in studying
their lessons. However, this medium of instruction poses a great risk as some pupils
have difficulty in reading and spelling since their parents or siblings are the only ones
who guide them in answering the modules. Therefore, in order to sustain quality
education and to help them adapt to the new-normal situation, we will be distributing
supplementary reading materials, health protocol booklets and health kits to all pupils
from grade 1 to grade 6. These supplementary reading materials are for the pupils to
have better reading and spelling skills amidst the pandemic.

IV. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

To improve pupils’ reading skills by providing them with reading materials
To improve pupils’ spelling skills by providing them with spelling words
To encourage pupils to follow health protocols by giving them health kits and health
protocol guidelines.

V. EXPECTED OUTPUTS/OUTCOMES

Develop pupils’ love of learning

Improve pupils’ reading and spelling skills
Develop good study habits
Become aware of the current new-normal situation
Encourage washing of hands and wearing facemask to reduce the risk of getting
infected with COVID-19

VI. PROJECT METHODOLOGY

A. Work breakdown and Task Time Estimates
During the distribution of modules in the school, the parents will receive the
supplementary reading materials, health protocol booklets and health kits. It is expected
to be completed in two weeks. This project will be facilitated by the assigned class
adviser for each grade level. The teacher will be responsible for the attendance of the
parents to monitor those who have received already received the aid.

B. Project Deliverables
The pupils will receive the reading materials to improve their reading and spelling skills,
as well as health protocol booklets and health kits for them to have an idea about health
measures of the current pandemic and to encourage them to follow the health protocols.
C. Risk Management Plan
If the parents fail to get the aid at the scheduled day for the distribution of the said
materials, we will wait for another week for them to come and pick it up. We will reach
out to them if in case they do not show up. If still we do not hear from them, we will have
the barangay officials deliver the aid right into their homes.

VIll. MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Monitoring and evaluation practice is devoted to the assessment of the school’s
overall performance. Monitoring is a continuous process to assess progress, identify
bottlenecks and it focuses on the process while evaluation is sporadic (done midterm or
at the end of the project) to assess the achieved results against expected one. Evaluation
is time specific and it is performed to critic whether a project has gotten its goal and
carried what is expected according to its original plan.
Monitoring (M & E) are important for the assessment if the project is attaining set
goals. It provides feedback on the extent to which the project is achieving the target.
Through M&E, potential problems can be identified at an early stage and propose
possible solution. Accessibility of the project to all components of target can be easily
monitored.
All teachers concerned shall monitor the pupils on their reading and spelling after
giving the materials, more through home visit. They will report the result of their
progress after two weeks. Project implementers shall evaluate the result of the project
and prepare a report about it.
