REMEMBER THE LIVER

Liver-Qi and Liver-Yang can never be deficient.

Left sided headache may be related to liver. It may be due to Liver-Blood deficiency.

Right sided headache may be Liver-Yin deficiency causing Liver-Yang Rising.

Right sided headache may be related to Gall Bladder. It may be due to Humid-Heat in Gall Bladder.

Left side of the tongue is related to liver.

Right side of the tongue is related to Gall Bladder

Headache on temples, eyes and lateral side of the head is may be due to Liver-Yin deficiency.

Dry eyes (no tears produced in the eyes) is caused by Liver-Yin deficiency.
When Liver-Qi stagnates it manifests primarily in the hypochondrium, i.e. the area just below the rib cage. There would
be a feeling of distention of chest and hypochondrium.
When Liver Qi stagnates & attacks brain causing depression, melancholia and mood swings.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks throat causing a feeling of lump in throat.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks lungs causing asthma with inhaling difficulties & blood in phlegm.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks spleen causing alternating constipation and diarrhea.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks stomach causing nausea, belching & vomiting.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks head causing headache, vertigo & irritation.
Liver Qi stagnates & attacks small intestine causing Qi stagnation there and pain in pelvis which radiates to back and
testicles.
Liver Qi stagnates & attacks small intestine causing obstruction and acute appendicitis.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks urinary bladder causes burning in urination.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks uterus causing premenstrual syndrome.

Liver Qi stagnates & attacks gall bladder causing jaundice, bitter taste, belching.

The stagnation of Liver-Qi and Liver-Blood causes uterus fibroids.

The stagnation of Liver-Qi and Liver-Blood causes thyroiditis.

Liver-Qi stagnation causes distension whereas Liver-Blood stagnation causes pain.

An excessive consumption of alcohol, meat, fried, greasy and hot type food causes excess heat in liver causing temporal
headache, epistaxis, hematemesis, and hemoptysis.
Extreme heat generating wind can cause measles, encephalitis, meningitis etc.

When Liver-Yang rises due to deficiency of Liver-Yin, it causes sudden unconsciousness, convulsions, deviation of eye
and mouth, hemiplegia. This can be caused by excessive sexual activity, excess anger, resentment.

Excess Liver-Wind caused by deficiency of Liver-Blood causes trembling of head, tics, numbness of limbs, deviated
tongue.
Jaundice can be caused by Humid-Heat in Liver and Gall Bladder. In such cases the deficiency of spleen increases
humidity in the body and when Liver-Qi stagnates, the Humid-Head increases in the Liver and Gall Bladder causing
jaundice.
Continuous low grade fever can be caused by Humid-Heat in Liver and Gall Bladder.

Scrotum or vaginal itching can be caused by Humid-Heat in Liver and Gall Bladder.
The contraction of the scrotum, or shrinking of vagina can be caused by stagnation of cold in Liver. The pain is
alleviated by warmth.
An alternation of constipation and diarrhea indicates stagnation of Liver-Qi attacking on Spleen. When the deficiency of
spleen is prominent, there would be diarrhea and when the stagnation of Liver-Qi is more prominent, there would be
constipation.
Color blindness can be caused by Liver-Blood deficiency.

Convulsions are a manifestation of interior Wind, which is always related to the Liver.

The Liver is said to impart to us the capacity to plan our life smoothly and wisely. In disease, a Liver disharmony can
manifest with an inability to plan our life and a lack of direction.

Liver-Qi rises upwards and spreads in all directions to promote the smooth flow of Qi in all parts of the body.

In health the energy deriving from the Liver can give a person great creative drive and resoluteness.

Scanty menstruation or amenorrhea can be caused by the deficiency of Liver-Blood.

Muscular weakness, muscle spasm, cramps can be caused by the deficiency of Liver-Blood.

Withered or brittle nails can be caused by the deficiency of Liver-Blood.

Blurred vision, “floaters” in eyes can be caused by the deficiency of Liver-Blood.

Painful periods, irregular periods, dark and clotted menstrual blood can be caused by the stagnation of Liver-Blood.

Abdominal masses blood can be caused by the stagnation of Liver-Blood.

Cyanosis of lips and nails, dark circles under the eyes, neuralgia, spasm are caused by excess wind.

Bitter taste that remains for whole day, red face and eyes, irritability are caused by excess Heat in Liver.
Migraine, indigestion, vomiting, bitter taste, painful enlargement of pennies are caused by the excess energy in the
Liver.
Breaking of nails, Night blindness, nightmare are caused by Liver-Yin deficiency.
