QUARTER 1 Module No. 1 Topic: Divisibility Rules for 3, 6 and 9

Lesson: Using Divisibility Rules for 3, 6 and 9 to Find the Common Factors
of Numbers
Objective/s:
1. Use divisibility rules for 3, 6 and 9 to find the common factors of number

In this lesson, you will learn divisibility rules of 3, 6 and 9 to

find the common factors.

Divisible- a number which, when divided, has a whole

number quotient and the remainder is zero

Common Factor - a number that is a factor of two different

numbers

Pretest

Directions: Read each item carefully. Circle the letter that corresponds to the best
answer.

1. Which of these numbers is divisible by 3?

A. 381 B. 970 C. 1289 D. 2020

2. What are the common factors of 3 and 9?

A. 10 B. 3 C. 7 D. 6

3. Which of these numbers are common factors of 54 and 36?

A. 3, 6, 9 B. 4, 5, 10 C. 5, 7, 11 D. 2, 7, 11

4. Which of these numbers is divisible by 6?

MELC Q 1 Week No. 1 Competency Code: M5NS-lb-58.2

A.65 B. 123 C. 762 D. 1891

5. Which of these numbers is divisible by 9?

A. 497 B. 571 C. 1305 D. 45,182

2. Let’s Review

3. Let’s Study

Problem Opener:

During quarantine period, Aprille decorated her room by hanging 24

photographs on her wall. She put the same number of photographs in each row. How
many rows did she created?

She arranged the same number of photographs into

3 rows of 8 6 rows of 4

24 ÷ 3 = 8 24 ÷ 6 = 4
It means that 24 can be divided by 3 and can be divided by 6 with no
leftover. How can we know a number can be divided by a certain number with an
exact answer or no remainder. Divisibility rule will help us. Let’s study the divisibility
rule of 3, 6, and 9.

MELC Q 1 Week No. 1 Competency Code: M5NS-lb-58.2

Competency: Uses divisibility rules for 3, 6 and 9 to find the common factors of numbers.
Using Divisibility Rules of 3, 6, and 9 to find the Common
Factors of Numbers

Find the common factor of 30 and 48 using divisibility rule of 3,6

Step 1: Use divisibility rule to find the factor of 30

30 is divisible by 3 because the sum of its digits is divisible by 3 3 x 10 = 30
30 is divisible by 6 because the number is both divisible by 2 & 3 6 x 5 = 30
Factors of 30 are 3,5,6,10

Step 2: Use divisibility rule to find the factor of 48

48 is divisible by 3 because the sum of its digits is divisible by 3 3 x 16 = 48
48 is divisible by 6 because the number is both divisible by 2 & 3 6 x 8 = 48
Factors of 48 are 3,6,8,16

Step 3: Common Factors of 30 and 48 are 3, 6

Factors of 30 are 3,5,6,10
Factors of 48 are 3, 6,8,16

Remember:

1. A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of all the digits is divisible by 3.

2. If a number is divisible by both 2 and 3, then it is divisible by 6

3. A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of all the digits is divisible or

multiple of 9.

4. Knowing the divisibility rules of 3, 6 and 9 will help you to find the
factors and common factors of a pair of number just examining its
digits.

30 888 90 999 2 727 48 888 8 904

B. Direction: Write the factors and common factor of the following set of
number using divisibility rule of 3, 6, and 9.
Number Factors Common Factor

Example: 84 and 36 84 - 3,6,14 ,28 3, 6
