After reading or browsing of the first module provided, answer the following questions based on
your understanding.
As much as possible, answers should be on your own words and not copied from any book or
article in the internet. Answers per item should be at least 30 words but not to exceed 100 words.
1. Describe the major elements and issues with Rapid Application Development.
Rapid Application Development formed to address the issues of waterfall development
such as its weaknesses and variations. It uses tools and techniques to speed up the
development process to have a better and refined methods. The issue with this kind of
methodologies is that it is dependent with the feedbacks of its users and without the
feedback the process of improving it will not happen.

2. Why do many projects end up having unreasonable deadlines? How should a

project manager react to unreasonable demands?
Unreasonable deadlines are sometimes the reason why the goal is not achieved as how
they imagine it because of the effect of shortening the set time limit given to a project.
Sometimes it happens because there are many projects that need to be done, there is
incentives if they finish the project shorter than its given time or maybe the manager just
wants to show off. The project manager must have a realistic and accurate time estimates
so that he can easily determine if the project can be done with the set time and if not, he
must not afraid of asking for extensions and must not agreeing to any unreasonable
deadlines that can affect the project.

3. Some companies hire consulting firms to develop the initial project plans and
manage the project, but use their own analysts and programmers to develop the
system. Why do you think some companies do this?
For me, they do this because they don’t have a skilled project manager who they can trust
fully their business or maybe they do this because they want to make sure that the project
plan will benefit a success to the business. Sometimes it is better if a company consults
these projects to someone who is not connected to their company because they give
honest and uncoated feedbacks that will benefits the company.
CASE STUDY:
Suppose that you are an analyst for the ABC Company, a large consulting firm with
offices around the world. The company wants to build a new knowledge
management system that can identify and track the expertise of individual
consultants anywhere in the world on the basis of their education and the various
consulting projects on which they have worked. Assume that this is a new idea that
has never before been attempted in the ABC or elsewhere. ABC has an international
network, but the offices in each country may use somewhat different hardware and
software. ABC management wants the system up and running within a year.
What methodology would you recommend that ABC Company use? Why?
The methodology that I will recommend in this type of situation is the Rapid Application
Development (RAD) because it is a development methodology that focuses on speeding
up the development process through the use of special tools and techniques like
Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. Rapid Application Development
can also suggest problems that users may encounter while using it and it is useful to
determine these issues while improving the methodologies so that as time goes by, the
methods will become better and refine.
