are in the so ng. (Imag ine read ing a book without any periods, commas, or capital letters!)

Time Signatures (or Meters)


A time signature (or " meter" ) indicates how many beats will appear in each measure. It
conta ins two numbers: the top number tells yo u how many beats will be in each mea s ure;
the bottom number says what type of note will equal one beat.
