-In this class we will review the parts of a supporting paragraph in a source-based essay.
We will review how to integrate outside evidence into a supporting paragraph. We will
review from previous classes the requirements for in-text citations of outside sources
when paraphrasing and quoting. We will focus on connecting evidence explanation
sentences between topic sentence and the evidence itself with an emphasis to add
background information and avoid dumping evidence in a supporting paragraph.
The teacher will use the Document Camera/computer to project the textbook pp. 79 to
85. As a class, the teacher will review the parts of a supporting paragraph for a source-
based essay from quoting/paraphrasing to documenting sources with in-text citations to
introducing the evidence to adding connecting explanation sentences and ending with
concluding sentences. The teacher will focus on an example supporting paragraph with
evidence from p. 84 of the textbook by pointing out the role of each sentence in the
paragraph: topic, connecting explanation, evidence, connection explanation, and
concluding sentence.
The teacher will project p. 85 and 86 and review how to add background information
when integrating evidence into a supporting paragraph with example from textbook.
